  • the german "ich habe lust abzuscheiden" says "i have enough", "i will die

  • hey, what is the painting in the video?

  • @ebugatta Must be one of Gerard David s painting

  • @awfulguitarplaying thank you! you were right. it is from the side panel of the Triptych of Jean Des Trompes.

  • @ebugatta you re welcome, thanks for the info :/

  • i havent heard them all yet but this is, so far, my favorite Bux cantata

  • the right one is abzusheiden or abzuscheiden?

  • I´m german and it sound to me german - not arabian!

  • @iwustudent101 yes...fantastic was the word which came to my mind also...and wonderful..sublime...etc..etc...

  • so its written and sang in german ;)

  • all of your interpreatations and translations are wrong.. "abzuscheiden" (verb = abscheiden) is an old german word for something like the honorful and peaceful way to die.. in this lyric the chorus is singing of the passionful wishes to abzuscheiden (die) to become more near to jesus christus!

  • As regards the spelling of "abzuscheiden"...well, it is simply not important at all, although not as small as the Arabic slur.

  • Es una verdadera maravilla.

  • yep. and now it is nearly correctly written. (before, the title was "abzusaidan".)

  • ABZUSCHEIDEN.

    or is this arabian translation?

  • That's what it says in the CD notes. Perhaps archaic spelling? I know that English "Ayres" have lots of words that are spelled differently today.

  • Nope. It is plain wrong.

  • Alright, well I'll change it then.

  • @HARMONICO101 i wouldn't be so sure. Many Germans are unaware at how much their spelling has changed (as are they unaware that there language comes from Danish, in the first place!)

I'd double check. Probably ingchjo is right, though - but do double check.

  • @alexpjp @alexpjp I'm Austrian and I'm aware, that there was no standard german until the late 18th. or even 19th. century. But replacing "sch" with "sh" seems very odd to me, the latter simply doesn't exist in german. Furthermore I checked some medieval texts in their original, barely understandable spelling, and they use "sch" too.

Having said that let us enjoy the music now :-)

  • @Zeobit I'm sure you're right, I was only raising the question. It is indeed wonderful music!

(Sorry, it was just a bit of Danish patriotism from me, even though I'm not danish :P )

Medievil German used all sorts of spellings, but indeed, I don't think sh exists at all.

    Tusind tak for tænker!

  • @ingchjo If anything here is certain, it is that you are an impolite and arrogant person who is more interested in insult than bringing the truth to light.

  • @dolofonos Interesting. Harmonico did not think so, but simply corrected the misspelled word. It was never his/her fault nor did I asserted so. I simply notified him/her that there's an typo.

  • @dolofonos ah, wer und was bist denn Du, Karl Friedrich Abel?

  • I've also been being intrigued by Lully's music in the last couple of weeks... other Times. Cheers for your posting.

  • very nice music!

  • He has bene of tremendous influence on Bach.
