I wonder if people understand it was as many as 50,000 pets who were euthanized or shot by the troopers and sheriffs.

Then there were the pets left to starve next to the road by the troopers.

After lying to people and say don't worry we have people coming to evacuate pets.

Then never did and after this I learned to never tell the police I was home.

During every hurricane I kept the car packed and ready to take my dog with me in a moments notices.

I moved since this happened.

I found dog on country road one time and brought it to nearest farm, turns out it was his dog. As soon as I left I saw owner kick the shit out of the dog. I drove back yelled for dog to come, dog did. I than jumped out and punched owner a in face, drove off

thank you for this! the gulf states now have a law requiring evac with pets. we fought for it, & we won. i worked for the HSPCA & was supposed to go help in new orleans but wasn't able to. did work from here matching up lost & found reports. you can bet i'll be at the next rescue effort.

When I saw the last clip of the cross at the entrance to St Bernards Parish, I was overcome with memories and grief. It was the last sign of hope I saw in October before I entered the hell that is SBP. The Muttshack has done a great service to show this to the world. It depicts what it was really like down there. God bless the animals and rescuers still there. I wish that I could go back again.
