Where I am, its easier to just turn up in A & E without any insurance, pay nothing for my treatment (student) and get a follow up appointment if necessary. Its easy to phone the GP make an appointment and not pay a penny. Its easy to go to the dentist (waits for some phrase about Brits and teeth) get fillings, pay a little for white ones and not have anyone ask about health insurance. And if I chose to, I could go to BUPA, or any private health clincs as well. Its fine. Don't be paranoid.

I have tons of friends that opt out of health insurance cause they make more money that way. These days you need all you can get.

Sure, if there is a major injury that's a problem. But in reality I didn't want health insurance either, because I rarely went to the doctor.

At least I had the free choice to decide what I wanted to do. Now I'm being told I have to have some kind of insurance. Also my money will pay for others insurance as well.

18-29 year olds don't get health insurance because it cost too much when you are in school or just starting out in a job. I know I was one of them until a couple years ago. It was my choice though, not because I COULDN'T get it.. I didn't want it. People shouldn't be forced to get health care if they don't want it. A large part of the millions in that age range don't want it because of costs involved. That is where the reform needs to be (costs)...but don't raise my taxes!

Everyone needs to have SOME plan. This is being proposed because as it stands, uninsured people put a lot of stress on emergency rooms and drain a lot of money.
