  • great singer but i wish she wouldnt ape janis' mannerisms. that is just weird

  • Cathy is amazing. She also is the vocalist for Paul Kantner's Jefferson Starship, as well as her own band, The Macrodots.

  • Wow, Cathy does a great job sounding like Janis.......it's nice that they found someone that sounds that close in the ballpark.....with the way music is going these days,it's nice to have bands like Big Brother keeping the days of old alive for us that were there to remember and those that weren't can experience!

  • @atfatw I know Sam and he does not wear a hearing aid. And his hair is not long.

  • @baaholly

perhaps you know this person, but I'll bet his hair is real grey or missing altogether

  • @atfatw lol. grey and somewhat missing. That generally happens over 45.

  • yeah this chick is actually pretty good!

but hey is any of those guys on the stage is an original BBHC member?!?

  • Yes, actually it's 3 of them. Peter Albin (one of the founders), Sam Andrew, (the other founder), Dave Getz, (the drummer). Missing is legendary James Gurley, who was the "star" of the group before Janis. His guitar playing was called an instrument "assault" that needed to be tamed like a wild animal. He was one of a few men who originally defined psychedelic guitar rock. Peace.

  • Yes, all original.

  • @BorisSs7 Sam Andrew, rhythm guitar, Peter Albin on bass, and Dave Getz on drums are all still on the stage.

  • No, this girl is not Janis. Is pretty to do a tribute, but nobody, never will ing like Janis, Janis was unique! Janis is unique she's sill alive! RIP JANIS!

  • @pauletaloca In my opinion Cathy Richardson is one of the best singers, who pays tribute to the legend of Janis Joplin (who CAN pay tribute to Janis). There is nobody else who can do it like her. And at the same time: NO ONE can replace Janis.....that's a little strange, but true. This is a little bit with every person who passes by.... no one can replace them..... (sorry for my bad english, I can rather find the words.)

  • I agree with Kosmickjanis. Although I think this chick is pretty good in her "tribute". She sounds more like Tina Turner in the early days or one of the Ikkettes. Its nice to seea proper tribute to the great art of Janis Joplin. Not one single person could ever replace Janis ever. Its like trying to find another Hendrix..just ain't gonna happen children.... peace and love and Janis's Ball and Chain at Monterey in '67 is still one of the all time great performances in Rock history. X

  • I find this interesting. James Gurley was strong in his opinion of Janis, after the fact. He was quoted as saying "she ruined the band." In this fan's opinion, she made the band. So to that end, why find a singer with Janis-like qualities if she was so "wrong for the band" in the 1st place? Sadly, this comes across as just another tribute band, to Janis. They were jealous of her when she was in the band, now they find a singer to immitate her when she's dead. That's seems wrong to me.

  • You're absolutely right. I have watched a few of the videos on here and it's obvious when looking for a singer, they gave the girl in question a tape of Janis to learn from. I don't think Sam ever spoke badly of Janis but the others definitely had a problem with her which seems to be the pattern through her life. It's jealousy. LOVE YOU JANIS! RIP!

  • GO JANIS !!

  • Go Janis? That isn't Janis lol. No way, now how.

I wish it was though, I must admit. *sigh*

    RIP Janis.

  • The band is what made big brother so good. Not janis, although she was great. I'd go see them in a heartbeat.

  • I was like, right in front of you or next to you, I got the same part of the song on my cam.

  • I was surprised by Cathy's voice, very close from Janis'

  • Yeah, CR is my buddy... She's the sh*&! SO are BBHC!

  • I was AT this festival; flew all the way from

Nashville; Cathy Richardson was WORTH IT! wOW!

She was awesome! What power and emotion. It

takes a lot of guts to get up there and pour

out your soul. Keep Rockin Cathy! You RULE!

  • Big Brother is who made that song sound so good even when Janis was alive. This Cathy chick did a very good job I think.

  • I disagree. It was Janis who did the cover song and made it her own. BBHC was just her back up band at that point, they knew it, and when she left, they went no where. As I said above, for how badly they spoke of her, they try very hard to find singers that can immitate her. Just doesn't seem right. Peace.

  • there is one and only janis joplin

  • GREAT JOB!!!!!!!!

  • I'm sorry, but Janis just too unique sounding for anyone to match her. Other singers make their voices sound rough and raspy, Janis' voice was naturally that way.

  • i agree this is a really bad way to sing this song janis joplin is the best out there

  • i was wrong this cathy is a good singer i judge by one song i am so sorry cathy

  • Cathy Richardson is great. I saw Big Brother perform 5 weeks ago at Amoeba music on Haight Street. As I stood about 10 feet from her, I can really say she is the closest thing to Janis that I have heard. They put on a great free show that day.

  • you're kidding. cathy is the best thing that happened to big brother since janis left with sam. accept that no one can come close to the awesome talent that was janis lyn joplin, and enjoy that cathy did great. she did so much better than the sfsol girl did.

  • I was there and it was a blast. having said that, the female vocalist was not as satisfying a replacement for Janis as I had hoped (I last saw Janis live in 1969, but I continue to listen to her recordings). The woman who took the part on Sunday, though, was fantastic. Regardless, a great festival.
