Your video comment is spot on. Our point is neither to promote renting nor to make a statement against home ownership. Rather, the point is to make a thoughtful choice about what is right for you and define the American Dream for yourself, rather than to blindly accept what others may tell you it is. If you click on the bitly link under the video you'll hear what others say about the New American Dream - and it's not about renting or home ownership.
Seriously. This is just wrong. What is so terrible about wanting to own something for yourself? When you rent your house, it can be taken away even if you pay for it.
This video is great! You know why I rather rent a place than own? I don't have patience to wait 15 years for my return on investment. Buying would mean spending well over 600k and being upside down until I was grey... after which I would be paying property taxes for the rest of my life in CA. To each their own, but If I'm going to be paying monthly for life regardless I'd at least like someone else to come out of pocket for the plumbing. Enter property manager.
As soon as our idiot government stops spending us back to the stone age the "American Dream" will again be reality. You also can't give people 99 weeks of unemployment benefits and expect them to maintain good work habits.
Those who live in glass houses should not throw stones. ie, The American economy is built on unsustainable ideas of consumerism and yet they like to criticize everyone who is different than them.
hahaha renting gets you nowhere. home ownership is about just that. owning a piece of land and a house for you generations and family to come. renting is dead money.
@libbyandtai So true, and why do people even care about another's religion it's one of the most important things to guide us as humans. It's almost like people are forgetting about morals. Why encourage fear, be the light you want to be for others.
Two democrats in congress, Chris Dodd (PA, ret) and Barney Frank (MA) spearheaded the "You deserve a house even if you can't afford it" act, AKA the Affordable Housing Act, passed in 2007. Banks were forced to give home loans to all despite despite their inability to repay them. Banks and the economy collapsed as a result. Under Obama, home ownership is no longer part of the American dream. Just ask the socialist himself. "Maybe you'd be better off renting." Hope and change, morons!
@jmn120176 You're so misinformed I don't know where to start. Banks have never been forced to give home loans to people with the inability to pay. I challenge to find ANY bank in the U.S. that was FORCED to loan to people the bank thought wouldn't be able to pay back the loan.
@shalcall Maybe you should read the Affordable Housing Act before you critique my statements. Home loans given to ANYONE regardless of their qualifications is EXACTLY what led to the housing bust.
@jmn120176 It was more than that. It doesn't matter if a bank loans money to a high risk recipient as long as every knows that it is a high risk recipient. When the bank takes that mortgage, sells it to wall street, wall street bundles it with other mortgages and the ratings agencies slap a AAA rating on it, THAT is a problem. And that's what helped cause the housing bust. No one would have bought those CDOs if they weren't rated AAA.
And again, no bank was forced to make loans. Not one.
America is falling, people these days in America are so stupid, Politicians are spending too much. We aren't strong enough to Police the world anymore. Empires fall, im sorry to see this one go.
@vekka220 Certainly it can not be that simple vekka220, next you are going to suggest that each of us take personal responsibility, live within our means and read a book or two on how to manage our finances. You probably also believe that discipline and planning are more important than relying on luck. You must be some kind of hater with a deep rooted phobias against nonsense, how can you live with your self? Nonsense hater.
Waaah wahhh. A generation of whiners and fools cries when the milk drips out of the defective cup THEY CHOSE then they blame the milk. "milk who needs milk. It drips out of a cup, we have been brain washed in to thinking we would benefit from it, but now we know better. Our generation must do with out it, milk is no longer good bahahahahh" Fools. Shelter is a basic necessity and it is better own it ASAP than to rent it at a higher and higher rate each year. Wise up MTV dumb-asses.
Because who doesn't want to pay rent on a 30 year old POS apartment eh comrade? No the issue isn't houses, it's Federal manipulation of the economy, banks, and the desire to "create jobs," foster "economic and social justice." These are the roots of our problems, not houses.
@InfomercialRemixer if that is the case, you were not living, you were sleeping. One does not wake up from living. Now that you are awake, learn from your mistakes and strive to create the life you want and learn to enjoy the journey even if you get dog shit on your shoes.
Do you really want to spend the majority of your life in a building you don't "own"? Do you want to pay rent until you die? Have no house to live in rent free when you retire or leave to your children when you die or sell when you need money if we're lucky enough to still be around as a species? To borrow against in an emergency? If you don't go overboard and try to buy a McMansion buying a home doesn't cost any more than rent (and at today's values that's debatable).
Uhhh... I must be really stupid because I didn't know that the "American Dream" was owning a house. I thought it was the idea that anyone can come to this country and succeed through hard work, no matter their age, sex, or race... Very strange. Maybe I just don't get it. No dream for me to take back. So sad. :(
@jonnois you sound so enlightened, and what economic system would you suggest? Point to an economic system that has a better track record of elevating the living standards of the greatest number of people.

@R00R How can it be tested if no one is willing to test it taking you as the prime example, and further more capitalism has never, I repeat never be proven to benefit society as a whole, never. Know why Mac will never be better than PC? Because you can NEVER upgrade a Mac... @CloudStrafeff7 Well unless you're a video editor, there is no reason to ever buy a mac and even at that... if you know how to build PC's... the PC will be better. The only way i would recommend buying a Mac is if the person was majoring in movie editing.
Home ownership is not and never was "The American Dream". That is the biggest steaming load of realtor propaganda I have ever heard. The American dream is a nation of individuals unfettered by masters, free to pursue their own ideas of happiness.

@cannedkitty oh wait lol its by rent.com it has nothing to do with any of those things I listed. Just a different type of consumerism. Why is youtube advertising this garbage
amazing how many people are too dumb to understand this video. Its about rebelling against the government and corporate made idea of the "american dream" to instead think independently and follow your own dream. so down voting would mean you prefer to follow along as sheep to work yourself to death with the dream of acquiring more stuff.
@alexzivo Im sorry I thought you where someone who know from your first statement I really dont have a lot of time for teaching people and I cant give out links you are right about greedy real-estate people but it goes a lot further then that As far as the red necks go if you live in a state where you can shoot someone for being on your property I suggest you do it or at least at them If your afraid killing someone get bb or an airsoft gun the ones I have shot with my bb gun have not come back;)
@snoid88 There still is the American dream for some people! People that work hard and stay optimistic! it's just whiny little bitch's like you that complain about everything that won't get the American dream. I think your the one that's asleep.......because you probably won't get a job and have nothing better to do!
god damn parodies of that mac commercial are getting old. i think futuramas was the best cause right after it leela said "people wont even know what we do"
this means rent instead of buy. rent is bullshit that europe does. americans buy and weve always been that way and always will. we have our freedom, no freedom under a land lord. stop trying to trick people you shit this isnt a american dream its your profit.
@Awgez24 This commercial is actually pretty straight forward. Having to pay $400k on a 200k house on a 30 year-fixed is bad enough - with banks and wall street scamming your loans on the side and cheating you with the fine print, home ownership isn't the most secure investment it once was. You can rent and know who your money is going to - not that I agree.
The brick should have clued you into the Apple reference; it's the most famous commercial in the world - shown during the superbowl.
@twirlingparasol See, you're a dumbass. Even the other dude who replied back to you knew that. Good job. Maybe if your crappy country had a better educational system you would have a higher IQ so that you could see the obvious.
@MrZeroCide lol troll. and a bad one at that. you keep writing "America sucks" so people will see it at the top. Which means you have no life. Also that's not how IQ works. But that was a nice try, eurofag.
Is that the voice over dude from fallout 3?!?!?! WTF.

I think the idea is to get people to go to the website.
blahblah21417 7 months ago
Honestly I have no clue what that was supposed to mean.
They have to describe it in the description. What a bad commercial.
Awgez24 7 months ago

MrZeroCide 7 months ago
@MrZeroCide lol troll. and a bad one at that. you keep writing "America sucks" so people will see it at the top. Which means you have no life. Also that's not how IQ works. But that was a nice try, eurofag.
twirlingparasol 7 months ago
@twirlingparasol Successful troll is successful. You're wasting time to reply to a troll comment.
Therefore you = idiot.
And by the way, do you even know what a eurofag is? I bet you don't, but i'm sure you'll probably google it after you read, dumb fuck.
