The look in Wallace's face at the end says it all. The Wire was all about the lie at the heart of the institution. Whether it's the security guard lying to the prosecutor about the shooter not being in the courtroom or Carcetti getting elected because some random person got killed that he claimed was a witness, there's always a lie. The Barksdale crew is cool, but it's not true that it won't physically torture a boy to death if he steals from it.

This scene and music alone rite here explains how The Barksdale Organization was when they was on top of everything....Calm, Cool, Smooth, and Hard.
