Thanks to the $1.25 restocking thing, one could rent a game and keep it for almost a month. Best deal going at the time. But they charged too much for everything else.
where the hell am i going to be able to get video game rentals now??.... I hope Gamestop get's into it or something cause I have to buy the game now instead of trying it out to see if ill like it....
@wojovox technically if you kept ur movie more than 7 days it sold to you, if you returned it then you got ur money back and only paid $1.25 restocking fee. there has always been some kind of fee when a movie is late!!!!
Blockbuster sucked. I'm glad they are gone. And, here's why. Unlike most places, that give me two days, with a game, Blockbuster only gave a day and a half. I don't even like to get out of BED before NOON. I tried to rent a game system from them once. They wouldn't take my cash! This was, of course, before they started "trusting" people. Ha! And, now, they're gone.
Yeah. I'm with them. This modern society's so cruel, isn't it? Asking grown men and women to act like...responsible adults? Oh, my God! How awful! Like, with me. I have to...work....40 hours a week! Or else I don't get no money, to rent movies, and stuff! It's so hard! I hate it!
blockbuster is gone, because of the fuckin red box shit, i mean what blockbuster should do is, only lend video games, because hte reason people are going to redbox is because a dollar a night is all it takes, but with video games, 2 dollars a night, which isn't fair to be paying that much for a couple days of gameplay, blockbuster might have a chance, but it seems pretty slim of them ever getting back to what they used to be.
all it means with blockbuster stores closing is the people working there are now competing for everyone else's jobs, everyone should want them to stay open, so jobs will be in more supply...... I wonder if there has been anyone who hated blockbuster lost their job to a previous blockbuster employee, that would be a story :)
RIP Blockbuster.. 20 years from now when I have my own kids and see them renting movies from Netflix having no idea what Blockbuster is, I'll sure remember my teen years going to a Blockbuster store and picking up a physical copy of a movie. RIP, look what technology has done to us. SMH
@acedaface954 Yes, I think many big companies are very hard-headed and refuse to change along with technology. Blockbuster was run by idiots, they had no idea how to keep up with Netflix, THEY HAD OVER 10 YEARS to come up with something similar to Netflix, even worst, they had an offer to buy Netflix in 2000 for 50M dollars!! I just wish this hadnt happend because I truly enjoyed going to BB all this years. Or look at Circuit City, another big business that couldnt keep up with the competition..
@datpimpinboy its al about the new these days. And companies like circuit city and blockbuster refuse to believe in changing their old ass prehistoric ways of running business. I will miss blockbeter though.
@acedaface954 Yup. To think if Blockbuster had done a few things differently such as making a streaming video system such as Netflix and lowering their rental price AND THE FREAKING OVERPRICED CANDY they would still be alive today. They changed the way we rented videos but thought that was the end of it. I guess they realized too late when everyone hated them already. I will miss BB too, but as sad as it is, it was their fault...
@datpimpinboy lol right man their snack bar's prices were outrageous. but that comes with convenience so i can understand why they would charge $2 for a snicker bar worth .50 at waknart. don't use their online video streamer. they charge by the movie. monthly fee + you pay for each movie viewing. netflix is the way to go. 7.99/mth and i watch what i want depending on if it can be streamed of course. still better then blockbuster.
this was such a bad idea because so many fucking pieces of shit never returned anything until almost two or three weeks later and by then no one wanted the movies that had been out that long
@mramazingracist100 one day nearly every company that's around today will have gone out of buseness. nothing lasts forrever. and the onely one who's a fag is you cause your probably some fat ass consumed by laziness and technology that you have to have fucking netflix. so instead of actually going out of the house, going somewhere for a change, and picking out any movie you please, you have to sit around on your fat ass and wait for the movie you want to arive in the mail for 24 hours or longer.
@ninja909 not really actually im a fitness model not kidding i am 100 % serious mens fitness muscle and fitness and i am going to school to become a physical therapist but nice try ...and yeah blockbuster are you joking your going to defend them... they robbed ppl with late fees for yearsz im glad to see them die out now i dont have to see the dumb fagz that work there or the corporate bastards on tv or in my neighborhood yayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy
Blockbuster has online customer service that answers within 24 hours. BB has new releases 28 days before NR or redbox. BB rents online games. You can trade mail movies and games, for instore ones. BB trades scratched diskst right away at your neartest BB. With the right device you can stream new movies with BB. As a NF subscriber I can fairly say that BB outshines NF. I keep NF for convenience, there are no new movies on NF, and the TV shows are segmented. Why R people happy accepting crap?
I wish Blockbuster the best, but they did this to themselves. They'll spend a while as a distant second fiddle to Netflix (Redbox I put in a totally different catagory because their selection is so crap), and maybe they can ressurect themselves in the future. I don't think they're dead at all but they have work to do. There is a Blockbuster about 2 miles from my house but I haven't been inside it since 2006.

<-former blockblister employee. I remember when this stupid promo got going. I mean no customers = no paycheck. But this was fucking insane. I could make commission over all the times I heard "no wonder you're getting sued."
<-Blockbuster employee. Lol so much rage on comments for this vid. I love how idiots think that redbox is some kinda savior from the big bad blockbuster late fees. But dont relize that redbox has an even worse latefee policy and even autochrage peoples credit cards if they return a movie in "non-functioning condition"
And this "brilliant" move by John Antioco pretty much sealed the fate of Blockbuster. Of course, it was inevitable that the brick and mortar concept would be phased out anyway, however the company could still have invested in streaming, digital downloads, their mail service, On Demand, and so forth. But now, they lost so much revenue from this strategy, they will have to file bankruptcy.
It's not dumb, at all. The deal didn't wind up bringing more customers back to Blockbuster, like they hoped. When they made this move, it was already too late and the writing was on the wall that Blockbuster was going down. The current crop of customers abused End of Late Fees to no end, and kept product as long as they wanted. As a result, there was never any inventory in the stores of the titles customers were looking for, and we collected to fees for loss revenue.
@MystikWizard So basically BB is dead first of all for the idiots who ran the company and later on for those who decided to keep the movies as long as they pleased. It's pretty sad that a business that at some point in time had so much money is now near its "death". Hopefully this teaches a lesson to other businesses, something that Blockbuster should have learned when Circuit City went out of business for similar reasons. Incredible that Netflix offered themselves to BB for 50M dollars in 2000
Everyone else, shut up and quit griping about a 3-year-old commercial and pay attention to your dang receipt!!! Get over yourself! It's not the employee's fault!
An epic commercial, but its message no longer rings true. Not only are there late fees again, they just shortened the amount of time you can rent a film. :P
I'm guessing they won't run commercials publicizing those little changes!
If people would just pay attention you wouldn't have to pay the restocking fees. And you still get to keep the movie for over a week after the due date. What's the damn problem? I'm so tired of people coming up to the register 3 YEARS LATER asking, "What happened to no late fees?" When's the last time you saw this commercial on the tv?!
What a fiasco this turned out to be. I worked at Blockbuster when this commercial came out and we did not have this policy (we were a franchise store and didn't have to). I had a guy imitate this commercial when I told him that our store did indeed have late fees. I guess he thought that would convince me to take his fee off. I didn't.
You too, huh? Yeah, when this ad campaign started, I worked at a franchised location who still had late fees. It was pretty crazy for a little while, but cooler heads prevailed. Still, though, it'd have been nice if corporate had made it clear that that was only at corporate-run locations.
The deal with the No More Late Fees was that you could have it for a few extra days, but if you turned it in very late you had to buy the movie/game at full price.
