Dudes, of course the "flp flops" are not useless in dog fight. They demonstrate F22s outstanding agility which is essential in a fight. Imagine there is someone behind you, you could put your whole surface into the wind use it as an highly effective air break to reduce speed and let the enemy coming right in front of you before he notices whats actually going on. You Americans shuld be proud on your great aircraft!

Listen, these tricks that both USA and Russia do for public air shows are BS in real combat. At higher altitude you have less thrust for control and going faster than idol. The maneuvers are for show not combat. Put full fuel/missiles load and see what they can do traveling at combat hight and speed...lol. Su planes have a lot of hype and the planes needs to go idol to do their tricks based on simply ballistics.

Well the information stated is from Lockheed test pilot. Technology is advanced enough to allow the missiles to do the maneuvering so the pilot does not have to take the G forces. DAS 360 degree targeting allows firing on any plane in any direction. You don't have to point your plane's noise and radar in the direction of the target to shoot it down. I think Stealth was proven in multiple wars the US has been in. Unfortunately the US is the most experienced in warfare and they know how to win.

If you see your own "History channel: Dogfights" or other documentaries about fighter pilots of WW I, WWII, Vietnam, Korea or even if you had player any decent simulator, you would know that all dogfights happens in subsonic speeds. During complex maneuvers as scissors or vertical scissors pilots exchange energy between altitude and airspeed. They try to make tighter turn without stall, or go vertical having more powerful engine and knowing that their enemy will stall first...

... Every fighter is training to use it's advantages and enemy's disadvantages. For example in Vietnam duels of SkyWarriors agains MiGs-15 and -17, they (american pilots) tried always to go vertical or if horizontal turn, then on speeds more than 450mph. In less speeds MiGs had better turn radius.

So, in close dogfight in general it is always an effort to go slower, on edge of stalling, in order to get on enemy's six.

So, the ability to turn on spot, as vertical, as horizontal is VERY valuable.

Of course, as I see it, it is not very good in multiple fighters engagment, because doing flip-flops on spot is not much different from beeing as sitting duck. But in one-on-one situation in very tight dogfight it is priceless.

All modern planes flie fast, all have very good BVR abilities, everyone tries to make its plane more stealthy, and every fighter got a cannon for dogfight. Well, in last it seems that latest Su and MiGs are superior.

Ever hear of the X-29? We did, but the cons of the forward swept wing outweigh the pros. The russians discovered this too it seems; The final version of the su-47 wont have a forward swept wing.

The forward swept wings give it great maneuverability. But they are not sturdy enough to work on a supersonic jet well. To much friction. High probability of a sharp turn at high speed ripping the wing off.

Swept wing fighters may look impressive but their not what even close to what is hyped & severely compromises stability, speed, & strenghth. Osilation is another big problem with swept wings at high speeds. At low level, low speed airshows, Russian aircraft, most of which are based off 30 yr old platforms (Su-27s & MiG-29's), like to "show-off" aspects that aren't useful at combat speed; bare in mind that a P-51 mustang is more maneuverable than any jet but does that mean its superior? No.

Okay, you're discussing to completely different topics here. Su-30's/35's are updated Su-27; that's not for debate. But what point are you trying to make about even more "ancient designs"? My point is that an Su-35 can be coverted back to a Flanker; two Su-37's were btw.

Actually we did experiment with forward swept wing technologies back in the lat 70's early 80's. The DARPA HiMat program used a modular fuselage design which allowed for aerodynamic add-ons. Swept wings were evaluated and as Americans, Generals traditionally like conventional looking aircraft. Proof of that is in the outcome of the F-22/F-23 flyoffs. The Generals just couldn't warm up to the F-23 and it was stealthier than the F-22. Forward swept wing have advantages, but then again.......

the PAK is still a concept aircraft, russia has yet to replicate what makes america stealth good and thats the RAM coating around the aircraft. Dont expect to see the PAK in the air for another 10 years a lot goes into developing even a test aircraft, and by then US will start to replace manned aircraft will UCAV's such as the new X-47 project.

P.S. There has always been tention between the US and Russia and it would be nice to see that gone in my lifetime but I doubt it will happen. :'(

The problem with F-22 is that its not stealth. The thing is that F22's radar would be detected by Su-47 before it detects the enemy. In a dog fight Su-47 will rip the F-22 apart because it has better missiles and maneuverability.

Su-47 has forward-swept wing design, better thrust to weight ratio in afterburner, 3D Vector Thrust, etc.

That's why Raptor's fans would tell that it will take down Su-47 from a far away because it stealth. I'm very doubt about that.

The Su-47 has absolutely no characteristic of a stealth aircraft! The F-22's non-cooperative target recognition system, several generations of stealth technology, integrated weapons system, state of the art jamming devises, superior maneuverability, super curuise, BVR capabilities, to name a few, you'd need about 11+ Su-47's to match one F-22. Your thinking way too small because the days of the dog fight are dead with the F-22; it engages the enemy from 60+ mile out without even being detected

Well, China is experiencing a economic slow down. They may not be as much threat. An expert in naval warfare said that it is an estimated 30yrs before China will be on equal terms with American power. Experts aren't always correct. Until then the F-22 has no equal.

The actual speed is classified. The pilot I talk to say that it is much faster than is known to the public. Besides, The Su-37 is only on par with the F-15d. The Raptor has no equal.
