As far as Starbuck on assault... the main objective here is to rescue Hera. If I was the Admiral I would want my best shot on that assault team. Everything is riding on it. The fighters outside are just decoys attracting attention.

@ufsantaris555 some of the Cylons broke off from the others and have sided with the humans because the Final Five Cylons are onboard the Galactica (Anders, Tyrol, Saul Tigh, Tory and Eleen Tigh). Most of them are Twos, Fives and Eights.

@ufsantaris555 actually to correct us both; the One (Cavil) , Two (black dude) and Five (Aaron Doral, blue shirt) models are up against the Fours (Boomer and Athena) and Sixes (Caprica, Gina and others) plus the Final Five. Model 3 (D'Anna) was boxed by Cavil and the only one left decided to die on the original Earth. Model Seven was killed off entirely by Cavil before the series even began. The friendly Cylon Centurions are the ones who served the Fours and Sixes on their base star.

@SantomPh arrgh need to look at what I'm typing! the TWOs (Leoben) , SIXES (Caprica). EIGHTS (Boomer & Athena) versus the ONES (Cavil) FOURS (Simon) and FIVES (Aaron). THREE led the rebels but decided to die on original Earth and SEVEN was dead before we ever got to meet him/them.

@ufsantaris555 Galactica's mission was a search and rescue to get Hera; the fleet jumped to another point and were defended by the Basestar and the pilots who decided not to come along. That, and Galactica is the only heavily armed ship in the entire fleet that can take the punishment of the defences.

In the original Battlestar there's one episode in which they that Galactica was over 200 old. So it was the oldest ship in all the colonies combined,  and as skycaprob said "They don't make them like they used to."

yea have to agree with u but the fucking episode was so stupid and made almost no sence how the hell did the ship ram into the coleny and yet not ripple implode like the pegasus asin u crush a can it ripled and vibrated downward and the galactica was already heavly damaged so how the hell did it survive and people already said it was a stupid episode but it was good for an ending but stil made no sence

@skycaprob Because the Bucket was a girl badass enough to stand that kind of damage, but remember, after the battle's end the ship was damaged beyond repair.

'Sides, the Rule of cool says that the guys with the million to one chances can do that kinda of badass psico stunts and win ;).

yeah, just a few episodes before this they wanted to scrap the galactica because it couldnt peacefully sail through space anymore, and now they use it like a hammer...

btw, this is the longest battle of the whole show, they are massively outnumbered, its also the last battle so the writers wont need anything after this, and they lose FOUR vipers??? I think they lost more at the thyllium asteroid in season one!

Remember in the miniseries when Galactica got nuked (testament to how tough BSG is supposed to be)? How they all freaked because if they didn't put out the fire the fuel lines would ignite and the whole ship would go up?

Well, that's pretty much what happened when Pegasus rammed the Basestar. Sure the bow got smashed up, but the rest would have been okay, if not for fuel lines catching fire, traveling back to the engine, which then exploded too. Plus Pegasus was going much faster.
