18 m is not at all exceptional for a freediver. Also, the only way he could have taken air from a tank at the wreck would have been if he had first exhaled the stale air from his lungs; if he did this, where are the bubbles?
It is very manageable to reach 18 m freediving with no fins. He used excellent technique in his decent and didn't stay on the bottom for long at all. You can take a breath from a scuba tank at the bottom but it is very dangerous to ascend as the air in your lungs will expand to about 4 times it's size at 18m and rupture you lungs. @abumstra Oooh,i'm sorry but i just can't contain myself any longer,believe me i really have tried not to say anything but it's hurting too much.Now don't take this personally but i have to comment on a couple of your remarks old boy 1)Regarding Greg pushing the mask to equalise it..i take it that you aren't familiar with Robert Boyle & his very clever Law. 2)Regarding something like a wreck..i take you are not familiar with Specsavers,its a Catamaran Wreck,it says this in the intro at the top!
I also want expose this piece footage for the FAKE it really is!!!Any free diver worth their salt will tell you that Mr Greg ''oooh what a big snorkel i've got'' Smith actually took a SCUBA unit to the bottom,took a walloping big breath and then swam to the surface exhaling as he went,then it was just a simple case of reversing the film, hey presto.You can see even see his knob peek out from the BOTTOM of his shorts,this would not happen if he were descending due to the effects of gravity.
