  • Next on my list are the mu-conotoxins. These are peptide chains found in the toxin of various sea snails. Look at 1RMK in the PDB.

I'm trying to get my pain specialist to run a trial here in Australia.

The conotoxins affect the way calcium 2+ ions are used by the neurons. That prevents pain signalling, but it doesn't lead to tolerance or addiction, no one knows why...

Unfortunately, side-effects can make you kill yourself, but in a lifetime of pain, that's not such a bad risk.

    Mmm, peptides!

  • My favourite peptide is 1Q0Y in the PDB. That's morphine!

The shape allows it to fit into G-type protein receptors (GPCRs) to prevent pain signalling.

Unfortunately, it's not like the natural opioid peptides (enkephalin, endorphins) because it doesn't have the necessary terminal peptides that allow the neuron to

"engulf" and "recycle" the receptor, hence leading to tolerance.

Hope I'm not stepping on anyone's toes... I love learning this stuff!

    Gotta love PDB!

  • Wow, at last something really interesting from this channel! It looks like a kind of molecule that makes pores in the cell membrane, Trp "floating" on the interphase...

  • DANG! hope those peptides aren't atheist !!!

  • @dumdan1988 By definition they are, because they lack any belief, so they would lack a belief in a deity.

  • thunderfoot this is bloody awsome. can you please tell me the program you are using to make these.

and just as some contructive critisism slow your speaking down slightly, more time to see the animation is good. :D good work hope to see more of these

  • @knivesron the software used is a combination of VMD (free) and POV (free). The molecular structure of melittin can be viewed by downloading its molecular structure from the protein data bank (pdb) (four letter protein code 2mlt) and loading it into VMD. enjoy :-)

  • So TF, i take it your'e a biochemist? :D

  • Thanks for sharing TF!

  • Is this in any way related to peptides like LL-37 - or the general classes of cationic peptides? Should I assume it's an immune response from some organism, or is this produced by infiltrating bacteria to lyse animal cells?

  • you make bio weapons?

  • I was wondering actually if someone could suggest a MacOS X compaitable program for making 3D models of proteins/peptides such as this?

  • "Scientific research" from the Zionist thug who brought you "Draw Mohamed Day", and amazingly wasn't dismissed from the shithole college where he works.

  • @MoscowMaestro Why would he be dismissed for his lack of religious belief? This is America.

  • @shagoosty How about gross professional misconduct and using the university facilities to conduct religious hate campaigns? TF is Zionist scum.

  • @MoscowMaestro How did he use the university to make YouTube videos?

  • @shagoosty Have you watched this video? Have you? Fucktard.

  • @MoscowMaestro The video that is showing his progress in science? How is that a religious hate campaign?

  • @shagoosty And "Draw Mohamed Day"? How do explain that? The reality is that your "atheist" TF is a Zionist jew. Can you find any video ever made by TF attacking Israel or Judaism? No, of course not, because he is a Zionist jew using "atheism" as a front to attack muslims. He gets paid by AIPAC to do it. And you and your Zionist pals go along with all this and your friend Philip.

  • @MoscowMaestro Your dodging the question. How does he use the university for his "religious hate campaign."

  • Made 0 sense.

Although extremely interesting. Great video TF!

  • more vids like these please!

  • mako one on dmt

  • I like the way you say it so casually, like this is just everyday stuff :D I'm gonna try and keep up but damn I'm a dunce when it comes to chemistry lol :D The animation is great btw helps alot in understanding the chinese your speaking :D

  • I'd love to see you do a video on p27kip1, features quite a bit in neocortex development and I would love to see it picked apart as its such a good example of a protein that can do a multitude of jobs; and im not gonna lie, a video on it would go down pretty well in my presentation lol. Big thumbs up!

  • I am looking forward to this very very much and hope to learn a lit about the inner workings of the world I live in ^^

  • WAIT WHAT

  • good job

  • Moar

  • wow..this is so cool!

  • Causes you to herp?? lol!

  • Fucking thunderf00t, man. Fucking thunderf00t.

    Phil Mason

  • Wooosh, that is the sound of knowledge going over me :P.

  • Beta-Strand!

  • I don't understand shit!

    Cool =D

  • I swear this guy has the most annoying voice ever.

  • @TomValedro Then why in the fuck do you watch his videos?

  • @sheri226 I dont! Lol. I just bumped in to this and decided to make this remark.

  • @TomValedro You mean to tell me you had NO idea who Thunderf00t was when you clicked on this video?

  • Moar!

  • Very cool! Looking forward to more stuff like this.

  • So was C0nc0rdance far wrong then?

  • @TheHDreality Thunderfoot fav' that vid, so I think that's a sign to Concordance was right on the money.

  • I'll be looking forward to more of this, sir!

  • If thunderf00t does molecular calculations in BOINC network, it could be that my PC processed it and i could peek at this structure at a time. (but only if)

I don't mind sharing my PC cpu/gpu to help researchers.

And you can do it too! Just go to BOINC and register.

It does calculations when you don't use your PC (replaces standby).

It might be nothing for you, but it means a lot to the scientists: they can get results many times faster.

  • @SEThatered It actually costs you money, since, if they are not being used, modern CPUs go in some kind of wait state where they consume less energy.

  • @SeltsamerAttraktor

Yes it uses energy, but believe me your PC is not the biggest electricity guzzler to begin with!

I did an experiment and found out that my microwave, boiler (for tea) and fridge are the hungriest for electricity.

So it is not all that big of a sacrifice to do.

  • Incredible!

  • awesome

  • Keep up the good work.

  • So it disrupts the phospholipid bilayer?

  • Too short

  • I have to admit that i don't understand any of this. :-(

  • Looking forward to the mixture of alcohol and water . I've found when I ingest such a mixture, I become smarter.. AND better looking ;)

  • @ofpfury Really? I don't become better looking. All the girls in the room definitely become better looking. I've even had some marriages I've had to get annulled straight away. However, I do achieve mystical Kung Fu powers...when I'm drinking...I just can't remember where everyone went when I come to...married to that super fat chick...who looked SO good when I married her...(i.e. Alcohol is a marriage rape drug for men. Fat girls, take note...)

  • i could listen to you explaining it, the voice itself is attention-grabbing to me.

  • Take a similar picture of the botulinum toxin, Thunderf00t.

  • very cool, lookin forward

  • Can this be used to kill cancer cell ?

  • Comment removed

  • Okay, so this peptide thing kills cells, right?
