First because one of the most important things of a contest is to know the winners and reason: this because a contest is just like a master lesson when everyone should learn something and the guru opinion is the most important part of it. Second simply because nobody really knows if you actually gave the prizes. Third because the haters problem is only for the haters themself and it's unfair that the other partecipants should be penalized.
