  • I heard George Carl play this once on WNWC (Arlington Heights, IL) in 1966. It took me until 2003 to find it, thanks to the Internet. I had taped it on reel to reel, and that is how the song stuck in my head, but the tape disappeared after my former brother-in-law dubbed over all of the (now classic garage band) music that I recorded off of a slew of radio shows. It was via output channels off of a receiver too, so the sound was very good.

  • My cousin Howie..aka Richard rocks! Knowing the story of how the should have been the band who Should and would have made it, (the story is on there DVD, just go to the website for RYL). Should he rest in peace. I LOVE all you fans out there, keeping This awsome band and Keeping Howie's spirit alive. I Love you Howie.

  • It wouldn't be the first time that a band recycled its biggest hit for a follow up single. But in this case, it was as good of a reason as any to take a great concept and expand upon it. Richard And The Young Lions' third Philips label single, "Nasty" went in an entirely different direction, anyway. Howie "Richard" Tepp was one of rock and roll's finest. He is greatly missed.

  • "Nasty" was actually released before this single. "Open Up Your Door/Once Upon Your Smile" was first... then "Nasty/Lost And Found"...and then "You Can Make It/To Have And To Hold" was last.

  • Of course. The catalog numbers on the Philips label single reiterate that. The term "follow up" was applied in the broad sense herein, not necessarily infering that which immediately followed.

  • I used to work with Lou Vlahkes! Rock-on Lou!!!!!......

  • Me, I prefer this to "Open Up Your Door", however, I heard this one first. When I got a chance to e-mail one of the band members, he said:

    1. They saw the Beatles on TV and wanted to stated a band.

    2. "Open Up Your Door" was his favorite Richard and the Young Lions song.

By the by, I think that's DJ Harry Harrison at the beginning of this. Appreciate the post.

  • I like this tune, but it's a shame that it's such a rip off of their earlier hit.

  • the seeds made a career of that!

  • That's true to some extent, but it seems more of a pity in the case of Rick and the Lions since they only released a handful of songs to begin with.

  • @mellymanfamily Hahaha. Well said!

  • Thanx for posting!
