It's sad how other people's neglectfulness prior to us owning a pet can cause us so much pain. I got a leo gecko from an ex, and I knew he was small for his age... found out later he'd not been well taken care of. He had a seizure, became paralyzed from the waist down and I put him to sleep. I think it's unfair for people to make rude comments when they don't understand the situation.

@THECRYTON it doesnt have to be glass. but you can use a 16 quart tube to hold one leopard gecko as long as you have a heat pad and tight fiting lid and a 6 quart tube can hold hatchings. they do not need a heat lamp as long as you have a heat pad because leopard geckos are nocturnel

Its hard to loose something you just got a day or 2 after, I got a CWD (Chinese water dragon) and it died on me 2 days after from mouth rot, then i got another one and it had the same problem so i took it back, I felt bad for the lizards but couldnt do much for them :( Musta been a bad batch of them or something IDK, but i got a new one and hes DOING GREAT!

@eaidk  You can get them at any pet store that has lizards, they're a common pet. And if your gecko hasn't eaten since you got it, it could die. You may have to force feed it. You have to open it's mouth to check for the mouth rot, he's not just gonna open his mouth for you. I would not get another gecko if you're having problems with this one, just to be on the safe side.

She was probably rubbing her head on things because of the extreme discomfort in her mouth. I can tell that she has mouth rot just from the video. Couldn't you see that her jaw wasn't lined up correctly and didn't look right?? You should make the pet store pay you back. It takes a while for mouth rot to get to that extreme which means that she had it for a while before they sold her to you.

Probably, it just depends on the case. My gecko had mouth rot for months before I took her in to get it treated, and it was still only a very mild case of mouth rot. If the gecko is young, however, the condition probably worsens faster because their immune system isn't as advanced as an older, more mature, gecko.

the way I force feed them, and also a way to check to be sure they don't have mouth rot... which they most likely do not... Is I take a paper clip and slide the smooth rounded edge into the side of their mouth and then turn it gently so it props their mouth open. From here you can look inside it should be nice and pink.. mouth rot looks like dead black tissue. also this is the time to put the baby cricket into their mouth. they just take the paper clip out.

Is he having problems eating on his own? If not than there is no need to try. But if he is that I suggest putting him on a surface that is at a comfortable level for you to hold his head while you try and force feed him. They don't really care for the process as a whole.

I had just gotten Mew when this video was made... the next day she stopped eating and when I tried to force feed her I noticed the roof of her mouth was black. Turns out she had mouth rot, when I took her to the vet for treatment they decided it was best to euthanize her. :( I thought she was getting ready to shed too... and I thought it was cute how she was rubbing her head on stuff like a cat, thats why I chose to adopt her. I suppose I should have inspected her better.
