@werre2 Only old people say they're old When do the young become old? Be bold, don't be cold, Don't say you're old. Don't forget to mention When you are drawing that pension. @MrFooknuts They went through various owners and name changes. They were bought by Infogrames in 1998, Ocean then became Infogrames UK. Then they became Atari UK. Now they're known as Atari, Inc.
How many memories... I feel like crying... this and the variation of Ocean Loader 5 are amongst my favorites... Commodore 64, Commodore 16 and Commodore Plus/4 forever !!!!
This sent a shiver down my spine when I heard it as a kid on Robocop. Even now, when I slid the tape into my datasette and press play, it still send a shiver down my spine a good 20 years later :)
Was gilt die Wette? Denn soviel Mühe konnten sich nur die wahnsinnigen Programierer der alten Computer machen.
haha! aint heard this in a long time. wonderful tune. c64 should of had more than 3 channel sound. i wish they would remake the ole 8 bits with modern mods, can u imagine!
I have a question: Why did the ZX Spectrum (C64's nemesis) emit those horrible screeching noises when loading (and the Amstrad CPC to a lesser degree), but the C64 remained silent when loading?
Many spectrum games would have the data on one side of the tape and the game music, as normal audio, on the other side of the tape, the idea being after loading the game you would turn over the tape and press play while playing the game to listen to the music. This also meant you could hear the loading sounds too. You could turn the sound down on some, but keeping it on was a good way of knowing if the game had crashed. No loading sound and no game = crash.
Brilliant post! This is the ocean loader i know and love, the other one just doesn't seem to have it like this one. I think i tried remixing this one a few years back! nice one!
im a speccy guy this played during loading? all we got was BEEEEEP BEEP BEEEEEP BEEEEEEEEEEEEEPPPP but of course c= crap on everyone i guess they got tunes during loading? top respect to C= for everything they ever did apart from marketing.
This was my favourite ocean loader. There was a similar one, arranged slightly differently for Batman The Movie. I used to love playing these two games just to listen to the music. I loved the games as well, though i much preferred Batman The Movie which i still play to this day on my Amiga. Forget PS3 and XBox360, c64 and amiga were the best days!!!
I also remember this from Robocop.. The game itself wasn't too great, but the loader music and picture werea reason enough to loan this game from my friend every now and then
I think it's fair to say that Jonothan Dunn was an unsung hero of the C64 Music era. Listening to this again after all those years is such a joy. I loved all the Ocean Loaders and this takes me back. Thanks for sharing it.
You're right mate. This is probably one of the most listened to pieces of music in recent years, all from waiting for a C64 game to load! Does bring back memories though.
dunno a disk drive solved that problem =) .. but the green beret / rambo music I probably liked better.. ocean loader was nice .. but Galways work on them.. I didn't mind loading up the tapes..haha
@keithaburke I make music composed with or using Commodore computers myself. Click my name to hear some and in stereo.
Or take a look at my alternate channel ONLYGOODCOMMIE. There I showcase some more of my own music, Commodore 64 promo material and a short video I made on C64-PC networking.
Hi. Thanks for uploading this, my favorite Ocean loader theme. Great memories of target renegade and Robocop;-) Does anyone remember the Robocop demo included with the Hollywood collection, a fp shooter, where you had to shoot the bad dude to rescue the hostage, using the defender 64 light gun Operation Wolf style?
Wow, I've been looking for this tune since ages! This was the loading tune on the Chase H.Q. C64 cassette version, only with better sounding (drums); Never knew it was a standard Ocean tune though...
With all the power the new consoles have the game music is always easily forgettable. its a far cry from the classics Galway, Hubband and Tel Jeroen and many more produced back in the C64 and Amiga hay day!
The problem is, that modern games use liscensed, reguler music (for example: rock, pop, rap, classical, blues) instead of chiptune or music which is desgined for video games. That's what I miss from the old video games - hired composers, chiptunes, etc.
@doctorbubble I think that with the limited hardware of the past, SID, ADlib.... your only recourse was MELODY, I think that is why music of past games are so.... emotional and distinct, they are about melody and not just about atmospheric ambiant beats....
and contrary to beats ... its harder to compose good melodies that work well....

How many people actually made music on their C64 back in the day? Paste the following title into the bar:
COMMODORE 64 MUSIC MAKER PROMOTIONAL FLEXIDISC
This is the record which given away free with a magazine to promote the Music Maker keyboard and software.
Have a listen and rate.
OnlyGoodCommie 2 years ago
The Commodore people saw no reason to route the noises of the tape loader through the sound system.
But if you turn the volume all the way up you'll still hear it a little.
However, a few unofficial datasettes with head alignment facilities had their own speakers through which the din was emitted.
