  • Canta em!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Nossa!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • OMG That 1st tenor has insane range!

  • I like when they say "I want to cross over to see my Lord" in that dignified voice at 3:19. I just love them!

  • Addicted!!

  • Trivia question....did Take 6 sing a McDonalds commercial back in either 1987 or 1988?

  • @3912James hmm It wasn't McDonalds if my memory serves me...the song was called "Break The Rules"

  • @3912James I know they did one for "10BPA" back when calling codes got you discounts on long distance.

  • I want to crossover to see my lord... Indeed!

  • is the bass Alvin Chea?? If yes, OMG he looks so different :S

  • @VocallysQuarteto yes it is !! lol

  • QUÉ BELLEZA, MUCHAS GRACIAS POR ESTO!!

  • These guys are just incredible!!! I also like them singing the National Anthem.

  • caramba sou fã desta musica a pakas dom que deus abençoe ricamente vocês todos eternamente ass Eduardo Brasil!!!!

  • @musiclover77able this kid i was in art class with, was in an accapella group..and very well connected..homes gave me an MP3 with all their albums on it..and it was confirmed on a website..i forget the name of it..but some connected cats on this old message board at the old take6.com showed me..plain as day..

  • @musiclover77able because he was gay...real talk..literally

  • @spekktakk1 Who was gay?

  • @victorarchbold mervyn warren

  • One of my all time favorite performances. Just excellent all the way around. Night Music (aka Sunday Night) was a great show : ) Glad there are still copies of these shows floating around out there!

  • @teapartyrich of course there was the missed Melvyn Warren with his great high notes....then nothing was the same without him

  • AWESOME!!!

  • @musiclover77able check out Merv's arrangement of O Come O Come Emmanuel. Whitney Houston performs it but it's ALL Merv in the background..(plus a bass synth patch).

  • 4:24 .. Absolute excellence! :')

  • HOW CAN YOU DISLIKE THIS!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!

  • Jesus christ!!! I knew Mervin had range but dayyummm I didn't know he had THAT much range. I always wondered who hit that rediculously high note at the end of this song even thought i assumed it was Mark cuz I know Mark is a first tenor but wow! Dayum really makes me wish Mervin would have stayed with the group, I love "I Do" by B2M and "don't know nothin" by For Real but I wasnt aware of other things he has laced.

  • I still have this cd, i use to use this cd to put me to sleep...so smoove and peaceful sounding!

  • haha the high notes are soo funny.. God bless em

  • AND IT'S FUCKING LIVE!!!!

  • that bass...oooh child! makes it perfect.

  • One of my fav gospel groups!

  • Dang! Nobody can sing like brothas! Nobody!

  • So good! Seen these guys a few times. Excellent everytime!

  • I love these brothers...they still sound great singing this but i always liked it with Merv singing on it

  • @soxgang i know right!!!!!i love merv.why did they have to get rid of him!?but i still love their music anyway.

  • @TheDramakiddo They did not get rid of him. He left to pursue his rather lucrative career as a arranger and producer for a lot of big acts like Boyz II Men , NSync, For Real, AZ Yet..

  • Absolutely beautiful...This song always sounds better with Merv

  • AWESOME HARMONIES

  • Amazing!!!

  • Still. Still.

    <3

  • Now that is what I'm talking about GOOD MUSICK. No doubt.

  • take 6 at there best.lovley

  • Hotness! These cats were platinum artists back then. Let's compare their excellence to our platinum artists today...

  • This is one of the best LIVE TV performances that I've seen on YouTube from Take 6, especially at the end this tune. I've been a big fan ever since they come out with their first album back in the 80's. They've inspired my work with the group The Blenders as well as all the groups that I've recorded and produced since. The funny thing is... I have never had the opportunity to see them LIVE! Gotta make that happen before I die.

  • mervyn warren was a beast. especially his arrangements....

    i wish they would reunite.

  • @MJamesIII yeaah but this one was arranged by Mark Kibble =)

  • Out of this world harmony. Best hands down!

  • so lool. real cool they sing with so many minor notes best ever.

  • номер один в мире вокала!

  • @BBKviolin60: Да, поют просто прекрасно.

  • Soooooooooo good !!

  • Aye merv you my boy and all but those white socks are killin me man. lol

  • The best vocal group EVER!! nuff said

  • YES...A PERFECT 10!!!

  • This is by far my favorite version of Get Away Jordan (:

    Great Upload! Keep em coming!

  • Mervin doing his best trumpet impression help to make this performance even better, IMO. Listening to him do his thing is so awesome!

  • amazing :|

  • OMFG... 4:05 Sick!

  • that's insane

  • unreal. omg <3

  • Great post. Thank you. BOP BOP

  • wow! i grew up listening to them!

    good stuff :)

  • i love it!

  • what language are the captions in in this ? haha

  • it is Japanese. I love this song.

  • Mervyn is definitely singing the high note at the end.....even on the CD. Later on when Joey joined, David....(yes David) started doing the high note because Claude's voice has been sort of thinning out.

  • When Joey joined Claude did the high notes...I don't know when David started to do it...probably around 1993 or so =D

  • Incorrect. It has always been Claude. Mervyn always sand counter-melody (crazy ears, man) He and Ced had the best ears!!

  • NO ! You're wrong ! I have looot of others videos to demonstrate it....

Claude and Dave or even Mark sometimes switch cos Claude hasn't the very high notes anymore.

ex1 : live cd at the end of so much 2 say, it's David Thomas who sing the high C-D...

ex2 : in the end of straighten up and fly right, it's Mark Kibble who sing the high F#...

ex3 : any video of Get Away Jordan with Mervyn Warren on it --> It's Merv who sing the high trills at the end

...there are others songs in which they switch...

  • You are exactly right about this video, AND about current events. My age is showing, they did indeed switch up the top bc all 3 (Merv, Claude, and Mark) were interchangeable. I have a very good friend tat attended Alabama @ the time Merv and te guys were at Huntsville. Needless to say I've seen them numerous times, and Claude has ALWAYS done the high note. IMHO after Merv left, they went from out of this world (Xmas album was the last with his arrangements) to simply great, to now... okay...

  • best...song...ever

  • I was probably 10-12 years old when my dad handed me a Take-6 CD and said "here... hear this"....

They were very instrumental in my faith journey!

This of course is one of my favorites. Even though I didn't really know the stories, I got the message!!

  • That's Merv doing the top high note at the end..

  • THANK YOU, my friend. FINALLY somebody ELSE who can actually SEE AND HEAR it.

  • ok u right. had to see it a couple times.

  • lol yeah...even with videos some people don't recognize it's mervyn doing the high note at the end ! crazy !!

  • Yup! I don't think claude could get that high on the end part. But it was definitely claude who did the "to see my lord" part. Mervyn was the one who did the high note on "Jordan"

  • He could do it. i have some videos of them doing it right after Mervyn's departure and Claude do the high B.

  • You are correct ..Claude did the the top note the entire song after Mervyn left and did an excellent job. He does it on All Access. Its funny because now when they do this song David does that part. Showing the versatility. .they all have great ranges

  • thats curious, i always thought claude was always the 1st tenor, can you tell me more about the formation?

  • Claude sings the high note in 90% of Take 6 songs because of the purity of his falsetto tone, but that does not mean he has the highest range. Both David and Mervyn could hit higher notes in the whistle register than he could, which is why they have switched on Get Away Jordan on those "whistle" register notes. Claude CAN hit those notes (he did it on All Access Video and in some live performances) but it is not as strong live all the time, so sometimes JUST on those notes they switch.

  • They also make that switch so seemless that you cannot tell unless you are REALLY listening. They are so good at what they do..they blend so well that you can barely tell who sings what

  • Just a correction...Claude could sing those notes !! He can still sing high but I'm sure he can't sing those High C's nowadays... :(

  • Yes he can, I know..I seen him recently, just not as strong. I have a voice similar to his..strong high gut voice with a pure falsetto. I can hit high notes in the whistle register also but not as strong. Claude has the BEST sounding falsetto (sounds like his natural voice) which is why I think they keep him at the top..

  • I know He has the sweetest falsetoo ever heard...but seriously he seems to srtuggle over high E...The highest note I heard him singing recently was a high Ab last June on "Set U Free" in which he make those "wooo ooo" ala James Ingram :-) I was happy to hear him still have it. But now I can't imagine him singing that "Get Away Jordan" ending. By The way are you David Reginald Thomas ?? lol

  • Nope..lol...I sing in a group that imitates the Temptations..called "The Tempters" in Milwaukee...(I know, their is a famous Japanese group called "The Tempters". We are working on a name change..lool)

  • Ok lol =) Have you check the group I sing with ? "egregor vocal sextet". We do some Take 6 I think you'll like them...

  • Cool, I will check it out. I have watched some videos on your page..so I know you are good! I will post something live from us, maybe from the Christmas special we are filming on the 3rd

  • @jibcraip I heard you guys...sound excellent. you have an awesome voice

  • @jibcraip The highest note I've ever heard Claude hit was in the last chord of "So Much 2 Say". Or was it someone else who hit that note?

  • @SJRogers It is Mervyn on the album...and now it's David Thomas who sing the last note ! =)

  • Merv got but hole range ROTF

  • Take 6 are from Oakwood University, aka Oakwood College. A college ive been connected since birth basically, my mom is a prefessor there and i am a student at the highschool. My mom went to school with them all, she remembers them announcing in class that they won their first grammy, i believe. I saw 3 of them sing couple months ago at a funeral at their home church Oakwood College.

  • damn one of my fav songs they ever did... doesnt get any better...

  • Simply Marvelous!

  • I was singing all these songs and dancing around the house not realizing that my wife and my do not know these songs!!...they are soooo young!!!

That's the only way i could look at it :)

  • That is absolutely INCREDIBLE.

  • thank you for this song....i used to lsiten to it when i was 11 and now i got to hear it again... it bring back lots of memory

  • Everyone should check out their the recent videos where they performed at The Stellar Awards. Do the search here on YouTube for them.

  • yes it was cool ! also check the video from the unc jazz fest...It's pirate but great :-) see you on the MB

  • Man, this was amazing:)

  • They sound so tight. Alvin really shows up on this one.

    6alianza from Chile.

  • I LOVE THIS GROUP!!!!!!!

  • You guys are comparing men from 1989 to 2008. Thats almost 20 years. These guys should be in their mid to late 40's. They are still something very different, in this prefab and sampling industry. So appreciate them while they are around cause there is no group on the horizon touching these guys.

  • i love this song

  • why is this a video response to my video?

  • because at the end mervyn warren sing a high C#

  • OK, thanks. if you find some extra high gospel tenor notes (above E5), let me know because i might make a video of that.

  • That's Claude Mcknight not Mervyn dumbass.

  • And Claude Mcknight didn't replace Mervyn Warren, Joey Kibble did. Stop calling everyone dumbass.

  • That blah, blah is for lukoza1. What I was saying about Claude is that he did and does all the lead tenor stuff not Mervyn.

  • no acutally it was mervyn not claude. look at the end they all point at mervyn and he's moving his hands to the vibrato.

  • Mervyn is wearing a blue shirt and they,re pointing at Claude. Read their lips while they're singing.

  • I checked another video and yup that's definately Claude on top. It's possible that they alternate but in this other video I saw that is much clearer Ced is definately pointing at Claude on the last note.

  • no it's not. watch as they hit that last night. it's so obvious when mervyn does the trills and he moves his hands while he does. claude himself leans over and points his thumb at mervyn. look at this video /watch?v=USJrqYxP7NM claude again points at mervyn.

  • i meant "last note" not "last night"

  • O.k..... Now before I say what Im about to say understand what Im saying..."Take 6 on this Video had a BETTER blend and balance than they do TODAY." I understand that thier chord structure today is a bit mo complex, but that still doesnt discount thier balance. I was BLOWN away when I heard this... and YES Ive been to a recent concert...and yes they are still the baddest singing group EVER! Does anyone agree with me on this???

  • Their chords structure isn't more complex today...their first album is the more complex :-)

  • yeah, their first album is a knock out.. shoulda stopped right there imo

  • Yeah...the chord structure was more complex back then...with nearly all of their songs on the 1st album.

I do agree with cdawg3712 that their best sound regarding balance and blend came from this line-up of guys...no doubt. They are still awesome though...

  • I'm still their fan today, for they are immensely talented. Yet, to me they lack in the voice department. They sound too... modern - pop-rockish. The tenors in particular lost the original purity of emission, probably due to singing a lot of falsetto - you must be either gifted to do that or learn to do it correctly otherwise it will most likely ruin the middle and lower part of your voice emission. Falsetto should be an addition not the main part of singing. Compare Claude in 1989 and today.

  • You don't know what you are talking about. You are clearly a musician

  • Blah, blah, blah, woo, woo, woo, you don't know shit because they are SUPPOSE to sound pop dumbass this is pop gospel! What the hell do you think it's suppose to be? The harmonies are jazz but the style is suppose to be baptist gospel obviously. Purity of emission? Dude this is pop get a life!

  • Who the hell are you talking to?

  • I've never gotten tired of hearing these guys.

  • In the beginning, ("pa rm pm pm... paba dm pm pm...) What Claude, Mark, Mervyn, David and Cedric sing bass whit Alvin Chea?

  • Yes they sing the bassline too...:-)

  • hauhauhauhauhauhauhauhauhauha!

  • my step- daughter is named JORDAN.

  • Oh how I wish Take 6 had the same sound today! Such a pitty they've somewhat messed up their voice emission and no longer sound so great live. The harmony is still there, but the performance is inferior. Check for yourseves.

  • What do you attribute the change in their voice emissions to? From what you stated, it seems you think they did it intentionally. I would say it is due to the fact that their voices are not quite the same as they were 15-20 years ago. Some things do deteriorate with time. :-)

  • It's true the voice will deteriorate with time if you don't take good care of it and meet your singing teacher regularly. That applies even to the greatest. In fact, they are so 'cos they realize they need to practice and remember. Th truth is Take 6 was back in 1989 the best acapella group not only for harmomnies, but also voice emissions. Today the harmonies are there, the emission is gone.

  • Simply MAGNIFICENT! I am so happy you've made this performance of one of my favorite ensembles. Thank you so much.

  • This band has made my life richer. Thanks so much guys :-)

  • Good Lord, I kneel and then prostrate before God-given talent

And of course Mervyn sang the high note, apart from that stop squabbling and just enjoy!

Love...from another T6 true fan ( and one doesnt have to live on the MB to consder onesself a true fan!)

  • Perfect, perfect, By Marcos Paulo Brazil

  • DANDRUFF

  • Hey what's with all the thumbs down, it was a funny part of the video. These are my favourite artists in the world, I didn't mean any disrespect.

  • Oh Lord they are classic, TOUCH those notes!

  • Absolutely fantastic!!! That was the time that Take 6 sounded actually better live than on the record. Fabulous!!!!!

  • I just heard another Take 6 video where I think it's called Take 6 Medley...at any rate, at the end, they sing the end of "Get Away Jordan", and at the end, David Thomas sings the high note at the end. This only confirms that these guys will trade off and that most of them can sing virtually anything!

  • In addition to Mervyn singing the top note at the end, look at about the 3:08 mark when they first start soaring up top and you'd have to be blind not to see that Mervyn is singing the top notes there as well--he slides up and down on that part and you can see and hear him....It's not Claude although he could have easily sang that part as well. I'm a Take 6 fan but you don't have to prove that you're a true fan to simply point out what your eyes and ears tell you. I know what I see and hear.

  • Mervyn sing soprano.

    He's so wonderful...

    Love yoouuuuuuu!!!!

    Gláucia - BRAZIL

  • jipcraip is not an idiot, you fool. He's a skilled musician and singer, and a true Take 6 fan.

  • Thanks for your trust...

  • I remember back in the day when Mervyn DID sing the top note at the end...Claude was typically the high 1st tenor based on his tessitural, but, as someone else said, they traded off, which made it all the more cool. Was it just me or was Alvin Chea just killin' it on his bass stepouts. This was probably the best Jordan overall with their ad lib. It was a good time for them!

  • looks like Merv switch off with Claude on some other parts too. Maybe that's way after all these years they don't do this one live?

Still, Tkae 6 is the GOAT!

  • I'm not gonna argue with jibcraip because he's an idiot. The damn video is right here in front of them and they still make themselves out to be morons. Plenty of these kind frequent youtube so beware.

  • Yes homie your right. The damn video IS right there infront of us. And as you can CLEARY see at the end when they're singing the last "Jooordaaan" MERVYN (the one in the blue shirt) is even moving his hands in the way he's singing the high note. AND ON TOP OF THAT! Mark Kibble, David Thomas, and CLAUDE MCKNIGHT are even pointing at Mervyn to show that he was the one doing the high note at the end.

  • DawgCityClev...if you were "A REAL FAN" you would know who Killabeatz, Jibcraip and AKandyapplebleu are...the fact that you dont know these three (I wont even go there with your weak knowlege of Merv's assignments on this song) proves how fake a fan you are...for your information, jibcraip is one of the tried and tested transcribers of all things T6, I've had the pleasure of meeting the man, and he is all that plus a bag of ships when it comes to T6 knowlege

  • To resolve the dispute. Mervyn did the very last high not ONLY on the album version but also and on this live version. Claude however did most of the 1st tenor on this song. Claude now does all the 1st tenor parts on this song now that Mervyn is gone, but I recently saw a performance where David hit the high not on the end of So Much 2 Say. I think they switch up to throw us off. But Claude does most of the 1st tenor.

  • Absolutely right! I've seen what you're talking about regarding David too..

  • That's Claude on the high false tenor. Common if you're a real fan get it together. Mervyn and Mark are 2nd tenors, but can reach the 1st high as well. Those 3 are sick.

David and Cedric brings in the low tenor/baritones, and Alvin on the Bass. Cedric also rips percussion at times.

  • awesome as always. thanks JB!

  • Listen to Merv KILLING the high end! DAMN!

  • Awesome.

  • I could watch this all day!
