As you know, It's a song about shagging hot chicks on his journey through the united states cruising in his hot wheels. written in an american style, sung in an american accent, but by a middle aged paper merchant middle manager from slough, england. Totally Brent-esque. and pretentious. That's why most find it funny. for me this episode is the best out of the 14. I'm suprised anyone who finds the show funny, doesn't find this genius. oh well

I am not convinced that the audience understand the level of humour here and that coming from the Thames Valley area of the Uk, he would have no reason to insert words such as Caddillac, hood and Freeway other than to inject some cheap perceived 'cool'.

He is playing the part of a deluded and out of date man with an over inflated sense of self. As David Brent, he 'thinks' he's cool..but are the audience getting the character or just clapping because someone can play a weak song?!

Frustrating.

Watch the actually clip or better yet the entire series! Gervais and Merchant have created one of the greatest and funniest British Tv shows and have also then gone on to CREATE the US, Chilli, Chinese, German, Spanish, French, Canadian and many more... version of The Office.

Ricky sings "Pretty girl on the hood of a cadillac", the audience goes Haha and then suddenly just stops, if they really found it funny you would have heard some extra laughs after the main laughs would have stopped. But you dont, why? To me it sounds like the audience doesn't know if it's suppose to be a normal song or a funny song so they throw this small laughter just to see if anyone joins in and can confirm what kind of song it's actually is.
