at 5:20 why didnt you move your bishop to g5 i believe it is that way it wouldnt really have mattered where he moved you would win material or it would be checkmate for you:)
@XxWickedboixX ..Bg5??..Black can play either bd7 or Nd7 and in both the cases, white not only lose the material but missed the chance of beautiful checkmate.
@XxWickedboixX then the queen could simply take the bishop while getting the king in check simultaneously. so white loses a piece and gives black another move to defend against the now obvious threat.
@gunj17 dude at first i didnt see that but as soon as i got it..i get rid of my post.if u see i deleted it 5 sec after i posted it cos i didnt see it..anyway i didnt mean to rude...so please watch your language...
This is the first time I've seen this. Thanks for sharing! I really like how you gave a heads-up before you performed the critical white move by saying "pause and try to see the white move." Cool.
That's not really a trap. If anything had been forced or maybe didn't require black to play into the position so badly, then I could see it. Also, that mate is a pretty common classic queen sacrifice-mate.
Nice move. Reminded me of a puzzle I did about a month ago. Problem is I can find those moves in puzzles but fail to do it during my own games they way you did.
i believe steinitz and reti have both won with this trap! nicely done....and impressive...to spot such tactics, instead of just playing re1....especially at only 1600!
Gunj, for future reference 4.Nxf6 is both more aggressive and more sound. It forces Black to double his pawns and will either leave you with good control of the center or Black with a weakened kingside. After ... gxf6?! the game can become strange and tactical but there is no reason to run from that challenge. It looks like your opponent wasn't prepared for the move you made though, so Qd3 worked out for the best. Do make more videos, I'm always interested in seeing how other's games play out.
i myself play that variation of the c.k. i think that if 4.Nxf6 exf6 black has a nice position despite the doubled pawns because he/she has open lines and easy developement so i don't think it's pretty bad 4 black and also i dont see how it weakens black's kingside and the pawn on f6 helps control e4.
Though i must say that both sides play dirrently from the normal Caro Kann lines i especially found the Qf3(white) move questionable..it seems like one those cases of bringing out the queen too early plus the Bf5 would discourage most players. Also i found e5 also very weird by Black esp in caro kann lines as u discussed..i wondered if these is actually in theory..or did ur opponent just made it up.kinda thing..newayz..Informative and interesting video..keep up the good work
Thx for ur reply dude!!..yup u r right, matter of the fact was it was 3rd game and at the time i wanted to try somthing else so i made the queen move, also i guess he played e5 only for that reason as he quickly want to open somelines and try to attack on my queen. I dont know much abt the theory but there is one game exactly played like that in early world championship, so when we reach that position, suddenly i realize the trap, fortunately!!!
Awesome video man..i really like the fact that it was made by one of us up and coming players ;) and NOT one those 2100+ rated player..which i say i find hard to understand sometimes.lolz
thx for ur reply prodigy..Well u may be a good player but just for ur knowledge, The trap was orginated in early world championship and infact fischer was white in that game. By going through the game and after knowing trap its easy for u to say like that but the reality is different!!!

@gunj17 ahh i get it ;d didn't see the tower ;d
GrgcRiot 10 months ago
@GrgcRiot Not sure if some1 told u this already, but the reason was becuz it was a double check. both bishop+rook were checking king...
RabbitFuzzy01 9 months ago
@GrgcRiot
he has to move his king coz its double check you moron
itiller69 8 months ago
@GrgcRiot the rook is giving check, too. its a double check of bishop and rook, so the king has to move.
McRoos 7 months ago
@GrgcRiot not possible because it's a double check both with rook and bishop

@johlo05 Dude I can understand that ur a begineer but atlist analysis closely before jumping on any conclusion & behaving like a dumb.
Ur queen or knight can't even touch white bishop ass as it is a double check from bishop as well as rook.

check sth nice.. if they play Nd7, white answers with Qe2 and after Ngf6, white plays Nd6 checkmate!!
so the best move for black insted of nd7 or nf6 is Bf4, trust me.. i play the caro-can defence...
coclock12345 2 years ago
I believe that the trap is named after Richard Reti, from the 1920s.

"Interesting trap. But I dont think your move 4.Qd3 is all that great after 4...Bf5. In fact that would be quite annoying for white."
Thx for ur reply!! Hey sorry, by mistake i press remove button instead of reply button
Regarding ur comment (4...Bf5???) is unplayable there as it will met with 5. NXf6+(Check) - eXf6 6. QXf5 and black loses the bishop in 6th move.

Wow, thanks for sharing this!
I didn't guess the move for white's queen though, but now I think I'm much better equipped to think along those lines in the future!
