there are different arcade versions of mk2. because i remember in one mk2 arcade, when they did fatalities the background turned plain black. but on other arcades when you did fatalities the background was still visible. and i dont remember the characters on the sides of the selection screen.

The only thing that annoys me about the MK franchise is that when a new game comes out its the SAME fucking characters over and over again. Sonya, Jax, Liu Kang, Raiden, Johnny Cage, Reptile, Kung Lao. I mean FFS Those characters are awesome but do they really need to be in every fucking game? Thats why I loved Deception cause they switched it up and brought back characters like Sindel, Night Wolf, Tanya, Jade, and others that we hadnt seen for a while.

They're too iconic of the franchise, like the dragon logo of Mortal Kombat. Removing them from one MK game is the equivalent of removing Ken and Ryu from street fighter, Mario and luigi from super mario, or taking Homer and Bart simpson off from the Simpsons. It ain't smart.

But I agree to an extent, I liked the aura and ethos behind Deception (although it should've had the PSP roster from the get go, Konquest was more like Retconquest) and I thought Sonya, Kung Lao, Johnny Cage and Reptile got absolutely butchered in their 3D iterations.

I don't know about you, but for me this is the "Hollywoodized Eastern theme" - Bruce Lee movies had similar musics but more funky. I also think the developers had watched a lot of Shaw Brother movies.

Another music source comes from 80s fighting movies - I believe that Blood Sport also influenced developers (MK was originally conceived as Jean-Claude fighting villains - perhaps this is greatest contribution that Jean-Claude made to entertainment, but I always wanted Bolo to win).
