  • ROFL This is MTH, not Lionel. You just set the chuff rate using DCS.

  • Comment removed

  • No, DCS.

  • wow dcc

  • i have a bachmann smoke oil loco of this type

  • That witsel sounds like the NYC Dreyfuss Hudson

  • I like the passenger consist. Is it the MTH 20-40001 set, perhaps with a 2-car add-on?

    Thanks,

    Ken

  • Quick question--does the tender carry a real coal load as opposed to a plastic molded-in piece? The Lionel Niagara's coal is plastic, which is disappointing given its exclusive status (i.e., sold only to Century Club members). Thanks for any input.

  • It's a real coal load, as it is on all MTH Premier steamers.

  • Do you mean like small pices of coal or the coal tender looks real?

  • Dude, you should double head this engine with your 844 model.

  • I haVEe this. I usually have it doublehead with my UP 844. I spent my whole alowence that time.

  • Absolutely gorgeous loco.. I'm trying to find one for sale...

  • I have seen at least 5 MTH 20-3047-1 NYC Niagaras listed for auction on eBay in the past 2 months, including 2 in unrun condition. If you haven't found one yet, a C-8 MTH Niagara is currently listed on eBay.

  • enjoyed all of the runbys of MTH Northerns, I love these locos as much as you do

  • Yes the Niagara's DID indeed have air horns. They were mounted just ahead of the engineer's front window on the boiler. As I understand they were only used for grade crossings; whistles for calling signals, etc. I wish the MTH model had both the air horn and whistle sounds like the SP Daylight.

  • Thats a Real Steam Engine NIagara was a beautiful engine. I like when they pull Pace maker Box car will some one please post a video of a Lionel Niagara pulling a long train of Pacemaker Box Car's. New York Central had class and beauty when it came to steam. With a New York Touch if you know what i mean.

  • I have a tape to cd recording of an actual NYC Niagara that apparently was made sometime in the mid 1950's. The recording has this particular Niagara passing through a grade crossing using a diesel like air horn (it roars by with a dramatic, loud, fast swish-steam sounds).

  • Glad they put a whistle on enstead of a horrible horn. Put a horn on that thing and it's like throwing up all over an icecream sundae. Nice job MTH!!!

  • The Niagaras never had horns so theres no need to worry. Wonder what the real whistle sounded like though...

  • Why does this MTH model have a whistle? Didn't the Niagaras have air horns on them?

  • Nope. SP Daylights did though and you can get one from MTH with both the whistle and air horn sounds.

  • Actually, Niagaras had both.

    I prefer the whstle though.

  • nyc with plates left & right

  • that is an excellent engine

  • robbinsscammerthief.why whould you wanna see the real thing.don't you realise that they were scrapped?

  • Do not remind us. We know and we'd rather not hear of it!!!

  • NICE!!!

  • I wanna see the real thing!! forget electric!

  • They were all scrapped.

  • They are all scrapped!

  • DUDE, NOW THATS AN AWSOME ENGINE!
