Actually, everybody who says that it's not supposed to go through your cartilage. It should go through the "sweet spot" , but there are a few people who don't have that sweet spot, just like every bodies different. Some people have large ones, some people have rather small ones. It just depends on the person. My experience is still on going since I got mine done 3 days ago, so far I absolutely love it.
So I'm getting mine done Monday , I would just say , "Can we go through the soft spot ? not the cartilage ?" Cause i did it my own , like 6 tries and didn't hurt . The jewlery didn't go through thats why :S

I definitly agree with you when you say that it feels like shards of glass going through your nose when it moves and there is crust on the ring. every time it happens by accident everything has to stop until the pain stops. its aweful. but an amazing piercing and 100% worth it

it makes your eyes water ! and advice to people who are going to hide it: hide it till its heal. it wont heal if you keep flipping it in and out. and it will be hard to kiss your boyfriend or girlfriend or whatever because your noses will bump.
Haha agree with the comment below! Because you don't pierce the cartilage! Haha pretty sure this girl got fucked over by the piercer or she did it herself! It only takes one try if its done right. And it only hurts like a pinch when it goes through. Your eyes tear up because it activates your tear ducts! And its only a little sore afterwords. I've had my septum done. The first time the lady pierced it crooked, making it hard to get the jewelry in so it hurt a fuck load! But then I took it straight out and got it repierced a week later, this time it didn't hurt as much and that was two weeks ago. I think it has nearly fully healed, can't feel it anymore :-).
They so screwed up your septum. They need to be told how to find the sweet spot which is so easy to get done in a min. I know I have a small one and took him a half a min to just go threw.

I have mine , I did myself dumb I know. I didn't do it through the cartilage though I pulled down on the cartilage to pierce the skin didn't hurt bad just cleaning it can hurt a bit but that's it .
@bbycakes3542 I've never had a septum piercing done, but everyone has a different pain tolerance. If you have a high tolerance for pain, it shouldn't really hurt too much. If you have a low tolernce, it may hurt a bit.

My septum was one of my most painful piercings - I got it done with a 12G retainer and the piercer said I have a small 'sweet spot.' I love it though, can't wait until I can put a pincher in there.
A year and a half ago, i was one of those kids that pierced my own septum with a safety pin. I'll share my experience. One morning i got up and just had this rush to do it, because i've been wanting it. I was 17. & i was just.. ready. So i did it. It didn't really hurt, but my eyes were watering so i freaked out. Soon after i got i through, i started spraying some of the piercing cleanse stuff [which is like un-idolized salt water or whatever..] & put the 16g ring through.. thats what hurt.
I pierced mine like two days ago, and I've changed mine like three times with no problem. I flipped it right away. My mom won't let me have it, so I flip it up. It didn't hurt that much, but I did sneeze like 50 million times. :) There's also no signs of infection...so I think I did good. Lol.

Pinch the inside part of your nose, there's the cartilage that is at the tip of your nose and in the back, that thin piece of skin in between the two is where it is pierced. That's called the sweet spot, may want to gain some knowledge before you try to comment.
QUESTION..... can you get the piercing between the cartilage and the middle of the nose. like.. the skin part? can u get it pierced there or does it HAVE to be the cartilage?
I've had my septum for 6 months now. It really didn't hurt at all when I got mine done, just a bit of pressure. My piercer didn't go through the cartilage though, just through the thin bit of skin between the cartilage and the tougher outside skin.
I maybe want to do y septum myself, I'm planning on buying a needle and stuff from a piercing website.. I wanna know if it's a good idea to use a recieving tube..? and can I just NOT pierce the cartilage? xD

I just got mine done a few days ago and the ring is huge, so it wont fit in my nose. If i took the balls off, it would probabally fit, but i cant get the balls off. They are on too tight. Help ? :(
@alexandauh There's a 'sweet spot' where you're supposed to pierce. Some people don't have that sweet spot and they have to pierce it through the cartilage. It's not rare, but it's not very common.
@Doabarellroll below. you shouldn't pierce through your cartilage. there's a spot called the "sweet spot" right below the cartilage and right above the thicker skin of your nose. if you feel around with your fingers you'll find it.

I got mine done today and the piercer said that it was best for me to get a bar through first because it gives it more space for the swelling to grow :) I'm well chuffed with it :D :D:D:DD: and it's quite easy to hide from my parents just gotta push the balls up! hahaaha. BY THE WAY I think someone sneezed and missed the 'thumbs up button ;)
For me my septum done was the easiest piercing!(I have my Labret ,septum and loads on my ears done) My eyes did water but it was just a quick sting and that was it!! Cleaning it was very painful at times and even when rotating it would be so sore!! Again up 2 the person!! I found getting my industrial done was the worse!
What makes me wonder is that I've now seen a couple of videoes of people who get the septum piercing and it is placed in the cartilage. A friend of mine is a piercer and I know people who have a septum piercing and the "normal" thing isn't to pierce the cartilage, but put it right under the cartilage in the area where it is still just skin. So now I'm confused :S What is your comment on all that?

for mine... the entering of the needle hurt.. but the needle sliding through and putting the hoop in didnt hurt.. but yeah i flipped it up about a week after i got it done.
my piercer got it through with no problem, but when she was putting the jewelry in, she knocked the jewelry. so she was trying to shove the jewelry in, which hurt like a b*tch, for about a minute. then she decided that she was gonna re-pierce it. in the inflamed tissue. which hurt twice as bad as the 1st time. but i think it's worth it!

Are you sure you meant cartilage? Cause you're definitely not supposed to do that. My friend did mind, and it didn't really hurt other than the second long pinch. I've had it for a few weeks and there isn't any crust on the ring, but I have to have it redone cause she pierced it way too far back. Should of done my research!
I got mine done a couple days ago and the chick said I can't flip it up for like 3 months, but I have to go to school sooo...I already did for my interview for the school, but I was afraid that it was going to get infected. So is it okay as long as you don't do it too often and don't mess with it?
mine hurt pretty bad i won't lie...but the worst part was just the two seconds it took to get the needle through. if you aren't good with pain, take my advice and do not get this done, it is painful. the soreness for me wasn't that bad. i just kept it clean and it wasn't sore at all after about a week and a half or so. i love mine...
I had my septum pierced at a 6g O_O First, the piercer used an 8g needle and then followed that with a 6g taper. The needle did not hurt half as bad as the taper. And i wore a 3/8" 6g circular barbell. With the balls off i was actually able to flip it up ^_^
Now my septum is at a 2g, and a little harder to hide! Usually I wear a silicone eyelet, but when I go out I wear my HUGE 9/16" 2g circular barbell. I sure do get a few stares =P

I just got my septum pierced a week ago, and my piercer was on ripley's believe it or not. He didn't use a clamp or anything on mine. Just felt for the sweet spot, and shoved the needle thru. It isn't crooked either!! I love it!

Apparenly it's not supposed to go through the cartilage, it's supposed to go through the thin skin between the lump at the bottom of the nose and the cartilage...
i used to have my septum done but it unfortunatly had to be removed because of a bad piercing, which was pierced DIAGONAL. as u can imagine, from this position the piercing would be very very painful, which it was. but i have to remove it because it was crooked and started to grow out on one side, i plan to get it re-pierced in the near future (Y)
Mine hurt like a bitch because my friend did it in her room, and we used a hollow needle from a feed store, so we shoved the ring in the hollow part after we pierced it and it took fucking forever, then we lost the ball on the ring so we had to use another one and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get it through. I had to change the ring about three times the week I got it done, and had to flip it up constantly to hide it, so yeah. Haha, but completely worth the agony.
Lol my boyfriend has his done, only he had it stretched for a while, but he can have his out for months at a time aswell and then pop a ring back in no problem.

I did mine myself like 5 days ago and i hurt bad cause the first time i had to stop and tell my dog tto stop barking cause it was3 in the morning then it hurt to bad so i took it out and an hour later i did it again and did it always through but then i couldnt move it to get my circular barbell in and when i finely did i had to stick it through and i couldnt get it throught the left side so i had to pop it through and ive been cleaning it good and so theres been no crusties and it hasnt been
They shouldn't have gone through the cartilege.... unless you asked for it or you dont have a sweet spot. Mine wasnt too bad, Im pretty sure the piercer used the wrong type of clamp for me, and the clamp was excruciating but the piercing was like a feather by comparison :P Its only been about a week since I got mine done and it tickles like anything and is still a little sore but seems to be healing okay, even though Ive been flipping it up and down all week :P
It depends on your tolerance for pain. Some people say it's unberably painful and others say they didn't feel a thing. I personally thought is was absolutely painless. I didn't feel a thing except the tugging when the circular barbell was being put in. So unless you have one, Just shut up. You just sound stupid.

Mine didn't hurt THAT bad. It took 1 try to get it through. My eyes watered a bit, but it wasn't the worst Ive done. Healing was a breeze. It didn't hurt at all aside from the crusty buildup when you move it or pop yourself in the nose. I flipped it up just five minutes after it was done. Changing the jewelry was easy as pie and I did after about 5 weeks. Mine wasnt through the cartilage and I dont see why it should have been. Its a 16 near the tip of my nose. Im adding another 14.
i had the chance 2 ask the piercing studeo if its ok 2 get piercing while ure pregnant coz i am.. 3 and a half but when i had the chance my cousins pulled me away from the piercer out the studeo b4 i could even get an answer

Yeah you're not supposed to get it pierced in your cartilage. I've got mine done and it stings but doesn't hurt a lot. And they told me to clean it with ear piercing cleaner.

You can pierce it through the cartilage. Most people chicken out, and choose not to. But piercing it through the cartilage is not totally wrong.
Its true, the cartilage COULD shatter. but hey,. its not that uncommon. i know more people who have their septum pierced this way then not.
Its just more painful,. but i've been told it lasts forever.

I've had my septum for 6 months now. It really didn't hurt at all when I got mine done, just a bit of pressure. My piercer didn't go through the cartilage though, just through the thin bit of skin between the cartilage and the tougher outside skin.

i did mine the other night and it took about 10 minutes and it made my eyes tear up but it reeally didnt hurt that bad :D im so sorry you had so much pain with it :P

I just got mine done a few days ago and the ring is huge, so it wont fit in my nose. If i took the balls off, it would probabally fit, but i cant get the balls off. They are on too tight. Help ? :(

You're not supposed to pierce it through the cardlidge, thats why it hurt.

@alexandauh There's a 'sweet spot' where you're supposed to pierce. Some people don't have that sweet spot and they have to pierce it through the cartilage. It's not rare, but it's not very common.

@Doabarellroll below. you shouldn't pierce through your cartilage. there's a spot called the "sweet spot" right below the cartilage and right above the thicker skin of your nose. if you feel around with your fingers you'll find it.

I got mine done today and the piercer said that it was best for me to get a bar through first because it gives it more space for the swelling to grow :) I'm well chuffed with it :D :D:D:DD: and it's quite easy to hide from my parents just gotta push the balls up! hahaaha. BY THE WAY I think someone sneezed and missed the 'thumbs up button ;)

For me my septum done was the easiest piercing!(I have my Labret ,septum and loads on my ears done) My eyes did water but it was just a quick sting and that was it!! Cleaning it was very painful at times and even when rotating it would be so sore!! Again up 2 the person!! I found getting my industrial done was the worse!

What makes me wonder is that I've now seen a couple of videoes of people who get the septum piercing and it is placed in the cartilage. A friend of mine is a piercer and I know people who have a septum piercing and the "normal" thing isn't to pierce the cartilage, but put it right under the cartilage in the area where it is still just skin. So now I'm confused :S What is your comment on all that?
Other than that yours look great <3 I love this piercing. Finally getting more courage to get it :)

for mine... the entering of the needle hurt.. but the needle sliding through and putting the hoop in didnt hurt.. but yeah i flipped it up about a week after i got it done.

my piercer got it through with no problem, but when she was putting the jewelry in, she knocked the jewelry. so she was trying to shove the jewelry in, which hurt like a b*tch, for about a minute. then she decided that she was gonna re-pierce it. in the inflamed tissue. which hurt twice as bad as the 1st time. but i think it's worth it!

Are you sure you meant cartilage? Cause you're definitely not supposed to do that. My friend did mind, and it didn't really hurt other than the second long pinch. I've had it for a few weeks and there isn't any crust on the ring, but I have to have it redone cause she pierced it way too far back. Should of done my research!

I got mine done a couple days ago and the chick said I can't flip it up for like 3 months, but I have to go to school sooo...I already did for my interview for the school, but I was afraid that it was going to get infected. So is it okay as long as you don't do it too often and don't mess with it?

mine hurt pretty bad i won't lie...but the worst part was just the two seconds it took to get the needle through. if you aren't good with pain, take my advice and do not get this done, it is painful. the soreness for me wasn't that bad. i just kept it clean and it wasn't sore at all after about a week and a half or so. i love mine...

I had my septum pierced at a 6g O_O First, the piercer used an 8g needle and then followed that with a 6g taper. The needle did not hurt half as bad as the taper. And i wore a 3/8" 6g circular barbell. With the balls off i was actually able to flip it up ^_^
Now my septum is at a 2g, and a little harder to hide! Usually I wear a silicone eyelet, but when I go out I wear my HUGE 9/16" 2g circular barbell. I sure do get a few stares =P

Was your septum pierced through the sweet spot or through the cartilage. I was pierced through the cartilage :'( and i was wondering if i could stretch it? It's fucking hurts those crusties going through. I got mine done last wednesday and it's going good. Easy piercing to have but fucking painful to be pierced. My ear cartilage was a billion times worse than this. Still swells occasionally and gets crusties even though it's been 3 months. It won't heal. Gahhh

I just got my septum pierced a week ago, and my piercer was on ripley's believe it or not. He didn't use a clamp or anything on mine. Just felt for the sweet spot, and shoved the needle thru. It isn't crooked either!! I love it!

i got my septum done, she was very got, the clamps hurt more that the needle and she was very professional about it and i fiped it up literally 5 min after i got it pierced, i had to pull my nose/lip down abit before it would go up so yerr... <3

i used to have my septum done but it unfortunatly had to be removed because of a bad piercing, which was pierced DIAGONAL. as u can imagine, from this position the piercing would be very very painful, which it was. but i have to remove it because it was crooked and started to grow out on one side, i plan to get it re-pierced in the near future (Y)

Mine hurt like a bitch because my friend did it in her room, and we used a hollow needle from a feed store, so we shoved the ring in the hollow part after we pierced it and it took fucking forever, then we lost the ball on the ring so we had to use another one and it was IMPOSSIBLE to get it through. I had to change the ring about three times the week I got it done, and had to flip it up constantly to hide it, so yeah. Haha, but completely worth the agony.

Lol my boyfriend has his done, only he had it stretched for a while, but he can have his out for months at a time aswell and then pop a ring back in no problem.
I'm really wanting mine pierced =] But the way my nose is (kinda long and pointy), it'd look better if it was far back, almost against my 'lip' / base of my nose. But that'd be going through some pretty heavy cartilage, soo;
#1 is that possible

I did mine myself like 5 days ago and i hurt bad cause the first time i had to stop and tell my dog tto stop barking cause it was3 in the morning then it hurt to bad so i took it out and an hour later i did it again and did it always through but then i couldnt move it to get my circular barbell in and when i finely did i had to stick it through and i couldnt get it throught the left side so i had to pop it through and ive been cleaning it good and so theres been no crusties and it hasnt been

They shouldn't have gone through the cartilege.... unless you asked for it or you dont have a sweet spot. Mine wasnt too bad, Im pretty sure the piercer used the wrong type of clamp for me, and the clamp was excruciating but the piercing was like a feather by comparison :P Its only been about a week since I got mine done and it tickles like anything and is still a little sore but seems to be healing okay, even though Ive been flipping it up and down all week :P

It depends on your tolerance for pain. Some people say it's unberably painful and others say they didn't feel a thing. I personally thought is was absolutely painless. I didn't feel a thing except the tugging when the circular barbell was being put in. So unless you have one, Just shut up. You just sound stupid.

Mine didn't hurt THAT bad. It took 1 try to get it through. My eyes watered a bit, but it wasn't the worst Ive done. Healing was a breeze. It didn't hurt at all aside from the crusty buildup when you move it or pop yourself in the nose. I flipped it up just five minutes after it was done. Changing the jewelry was easy as pie and I did after about 5 weeks. Mine wasnt through the cartilage and I dont see why it should have been. Its a 16 near the tip of my nose. Im adding another 14.

Yeah you're not supposed to get it pierced in your cartilage. I've got mine done and it stings but doesn't hurt a lot. And they told me to clean it with ear piercing cleaner.

Hey I have my nostril pierced and I have had it for 10 weeks.
It has really dry skin around it and it is only red when I knock it
how do you know when it's healed?
I need to take it out next week for a MRI I have tried to change the bar but as soon as I get to the bend in the bar it hurts and I can't get it out
Is it healed? what do you suggest?
Taking it out completely or getting it redone is not a option

got my septum pierced yesterday, it hurt really bad and it looks crooked. :( like more of the horseshoe is in one side of my nose then the other, and looks like its pierced further in my nose then the other side. it hurt really bad lol. i got it pierced at a 14g instead of a 16. so the jewelry is really big. once it heals im going to switch it out for one with a smaller diameter.
