If you guys want pot legalized so badly, then go hunt down the bastards who distribute the harder, deadly drugs like Heroin, and Cocaine.
Because really as long as there are illegal drugs to be had, the murderous drug lords will just keep on dealing and killing. At least with pot illegal, their efforts are split between distributing pot and distributing the hard drugs. If pot was legal, they would focus entirely on hard drugs.
So until you stop those bastards, you don't want pot legal bad enough

I read recently on the Alternet website, that if America's current prison population was reduced to what it was in 1970---1 million jobs in the prison industry would be lost. Not to mention all of the "private" industry that has moved into the incarceration business.
Since the vast majority of people in prison are there because of drug related offenses, stopping the "War on Drugs" would hit some very important (and powerful) people in the pocketbook. They aren't gonna let that happen
@delavalmilker You would create jobs at the same time. Think how much man power it would take to get that seed fully grown to a plant and all the work that would go towards getting it to you. I think that would out weigh the loss of the jobs in prison.
The fact is that a stubborn ignorant minority composed of politicians, clergymen and "scientists" ( mostly all belonging to monotheistic religions) despise drugs and want to impose a drug ban on everybody. Its not going to work, for at least 50% of mankind wants to consume drugs, wether its tobacco, coffee, wine or cocaine. Stop this bloody war on drugs now, specially US Goverment, leader in creating violence on drug consumers. US Gov. stop implementing ur motto: "IN BLOOD WE TRUST"

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It may be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end, for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." -- C. S. Lewis
The truth of these words is clear in the failed "War on Drugs"
I say we get RID of the "Witch Burners" in Washington, right along with ALL of their pot laws. If the people in Washington get labeled as "Witch Burners" It will decrease the chances of their getting elected in the first place
@gunsunderthecounter And in what way is the Government controlling that market to any positive effect? Drugs like Marijuana are used more than ever. The War on Drugs is a failure in every single way.
@gunsunderthecounter You're actually false. The War on Drugs, was, to quote directly from wikipedia, "intended to both define and reduce the illegal drug trade." With a reduction in illegal drug trade, people cannot buy it and therefore the usage would drop. It would be fair to say the War on Drugs was put into effect to reduce usage.
I do support the legalization of drugs & I don't necessarily doubt the information given in the video, I just think the makers of the video should put the studies & sources used in either the description box or in little clickable annotations when each fact shows up.
I'd like to see the study that supposedly showed the causal link between drug enforcement spending and drug-related violence. I see how correlation can be established, but you can't go from that to causation. And unless there were groups, one which received a certain amount of drug enforcement spending, and one that didn't, and that was randomized, I don't see how an experiment could have been done.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
I have the answer to solve the "conflict" on drugs! It's called praying! God can solve these problems, people can't! God saved us from death with his son, Jesus Christ, but he can also do anything. "With men all is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Math. 19:26)
@Duhpan Think about what actually happens when you pray. All you are doing is visualizing your goals and asking God for strength. God can't actually influence anyone's behavior, because we have free will. God also can't influence nature, because it's governed by a set of basic physical laws. So it seems that while God may have the answers, it's up to humans to take action. Hope this helps you in some small way.
Drug prohibition exists because doing things by force is a very profitable business model. Taxes taken by force pay for the police to arrest people by force and place them into prisons, many of them private or making things for private corporations.
government makes money from ppl that get incarcerated.. owners of private prisons make money from ppl who get incarcerated.. the US has 25% of the worlds prisoners.. as if the US government is going to decriminalize drugs, not anytime soon anyway..
People in California can make a difference this November. Vote yes on prop 19 and legalize marijuana! It'll be a shot heard round the U.S. no doubt about.
State by state the war on drugs must come to end.
@chinesechongo yes, it must. I have a feeling that eventually it will come to an end, not because it is wrong and immoral, unconstitutional, and it doesn't work, and it is a failure, and it's destroying lives, and punishments are nearly as over the top as possible... but the war will end just because they'll realize the economy will be better off without the war on drugs. Finally, after the war is over, only then they'll look back and realize how ridiculous it was.
by funding anti-drug efforts, we should consider that those who may never engage chemicals are driven to consider the issues, when in fact if reasonable accomodation of scientific minds with useable science rather than wastefull nonsense could interest persons such as myself such that the risk would be reduced greater than anti-drug efforts have done.
@azzmoran Oh they see the point. Intellectuals have been saying thsi for years now. Its just that they don't care... You have to start thinking of their true motives.
A trillion dollars spent on the war on drugs. Jeez.... and people wonder why there is a war despite its uselessness. That war exists because it feeds itself with money. Do the DEA guys really care if they win the war, or do they WANT the war so they can keep their job? Not saying they're evil... but for God's sake, let's give the DEA guys some other job so harmless users aren't having their lives destroyed. Give the DEA guys a job with a POSITIVE effect and everyone is happy.
@fnog9 "In 2001 Portugal decriminalized all drugs and focused anti-drug efforts on public health and community safety" THAT was exactly what I was talking about in my last post. Give the DEA guys jobs in another similar palcement, but instead of destroying peoples lives, their jobs will have a positive impact. Let them have jobs in community safety and public health. Let the spending be done on improving peoples lives, improving education, not throwing people in jail, for God's sake!
@fnog9 Another option would be to take the victimless criminals in the prisons out, and replace them with DEA agents. Although I'd imagine such a policy would be politically difficult to gain support.
is not about the drugs, is about having laws that work to unstabilize countries like Mexico so USA can control us, its about dividing mexicans and conquering us. its the thin line between entertainment and war, what is entertainment (drugs) for USA is war for us and the thin line are the borders.
Why the global uses of illegal drugs in the first place? What is going on Planet-wise that people are using drugs to blunt the morbidity of their discontent?
If legalizing drugs, or/or/both decriminalizing drug usage, is the answer to the War on Drugs as suggested by this presentation, the real problem, a fix for individual and social discontent, is not being addressed--only lessened.
Mankind has largely made a habit out of War and Violence, the root cause of individual and social discontent.
@SteelRocker Pot is a natural plant not a drug. Hemp (cannabis) is the most useful plant in the world and in the US it is illegal to grow because pot is illegal, even though you cannot get high from hemp. YEA THIS SHIT NEEDS TO BE LEGAL. Look into benefits of hemp and tell me it shouldn't be legal.
American conservative christians are driving the world into the ground. Their antiquated beliefs do not apply to all people, but to them they are doing gods work. Fuck conservative christian hypocrites.
big government liberals are ruining the economy... Socialists will push us back into the middle ages if it were not for hard working Christians who are putting a stop to it.
@6703445 Republicans politicians ruined the economy. That is a well known FACT, not propaganda right-wing brainwashing that you may be so used to. There are a lot of FACTS that conservatives just choose to over look simply because they do not fit into their own world view. Republicans are the party of ignorance, hate, and bigotry.

this is a really good video, very informative... but when they say the purity of drugs has increased, what is this saying? I know what the increase in purity is, but what is that saying about the war on drugs?
@BleachFiendOfficial it says that the drug is more widely available. When a drug is less widely available the drug dealer dilutes the product in order to maintain sales and profit
Prohibition has never worked anywhere in history, and it's not working now in the US. Legalize it, like alcohol, and the violent gangs will disappear overnight.

Decriminalization is not the same as condoning drug use. It’s just that the law enforcement approach has failed to reduce drug use. There is virtually no correlation between the legality of drugs and their abuse. Legal drugs are abused all the time.
If they were really a genius, they could tell us what our society will look like with coke and meth available at 7-11. Rehab is a sad joke. You know this right? The success rate of any kind of rehab currently known is terrible, really terrible. If they this group were REALLY genius, they would devise a rehab system that actually worked. To just spout off a bunch of statistics about the War on Drugs takes no real intellect.
@westpacific52 Not everyone that partakes in drug use turns into an addictive uncontrollable downward spiralling case of drug abuse. Some people can do drugs very controllably, while some people are highly addicted and more than likely suffer in other ways already. Any argument you can use as far as coke meth crack etc. etc. was at one time used for prohibition of alcohol. And SHOULD be centered towards cigarettes and their purposefully addictive qualities. Drugs/plants ARE civilization.
coke and meth are a LOT more harmful than liquor, and a lot more physically addictive. I understand the comparison between booze and pot, but coke and meth are not pot. NOBODY, but NOBODY can do meth or coke every day and function without some type of harm to society. People can drink, and people can smoke pot every day without harm to the rest of society.
@westpacific52 Statistically the abuse of these drugs are in underdeveloped and undereducated regions. Crack meth and heroine are drugs I will never do. I have seen what these things can do to people. A lot of times they do these things because of their situation in the first place (underdeveloped and undereducated) and the way the black market is set up along with prohibition, it creates these environments in the first place, thus creating the cycle. Education and understanding > anything.
Yes the US and Portugual are two different countries, one being a first world country and the other being a 2-3rd world country. With that said, it is safe to assume that Portugual would have a higher rise of addiction based on their hardships yet their rates of addiction, abuse, etc have gone down...why is that?
@enjoidanielz: Good point. Lots of staunch supporters of the Drug War always pull the xenophobic "oh, but ______ is a totally different country than _______", but almost always without justifying this racist/cultural chauvinism viewpoint.
Fact is: Portugal had very severe drug problems. So bad that "something had to be done". Totally uncharacteristic for politicians they decided in1999 to review the entire drug policy approach. Then in 2001 implemented the most redical decrim act ever.
@CloudyCraze when i wuz yung dey told me i was a recovering alchoholic - before i knew what alchohol was - and for fourty years i kept my code of silence ~ then in the 87-92 economic collapse, i decided to cease alchohol intake due to money -- fear is soul-food / with enough fear you can do anything { they did not know fear and so were puppets of the regime } and at nearly 60 years old, I have 80 millisecond reflexes = the propaganda is shameful deception
@westpacific52 For the record, alcohol has addiction rates very similar to those for heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine -- and usage rates that absolutely dwarf those of the other "hard" drugs combined.
@westpacific52 drugs are already easy as shit to get, your 7-11 fear holds no water. and rehab is a joke because the government spends a very small fraction of money on it, they spend the majority on law enforcement sending people to jail.
@phuphroo Ree Hab is { basically } the front-line intake-portal using "clean&free" police-mythology to "protect&serve" the clean-life propoganda :: Vanishingly small amounts of flouride allow aluminum to cross the blood-brain barrier and become deposited in the brain, reducing or eradicating cognitive brain function -- I now fear the law more than I fear the criminal they are supposed to protect me from
@toonsinbeymen If we were true capiltalists we would want to legalize and capitalize on drug sales and rehabilitation programs. Also, I've known a lot of people who miss work because they are hung over, so if that's legal, might as well legalize everything else. Alcohol addiction and the behavior and effects of alcohol can be just as devastating, if not more so, than any other drug. In fact, alcohol withdrawal is the only drug withdrawal that you can actually die from.
No way will law makers ever relax the draconian and stupid punishment against drug users in the us. It would reduce on-the-job productivity. This is capitalism - all for the corp.
@toosinbeymen There is zero evidence that ending drug prohibition would "reduce on-the-job productivity." Please, this isn't about freaking capitalism, it's about excessive government interference with private lives.
The USA has failed drug laws. The USA has privitized prisons which politicians have invested in. The USA has more people in prison for drug offenses than anything else. Legalizing it would lose all that profit for those investors ie those lawmakers. That is the clear fact revolving around the drug policy of the USA. Why on earth would they relax drug laws?
- why do the data for price/purity for weed and heroin stop more than a decade ago?
- what are the unit values in those graphs (how much pot could you get for $1.20) ?
- the graph at 2:08 has a bunch of problems: the data again are at least a decade old, "homicide rate" doesn't mean drug related violence, "causation" could be the other way around (more money spent as homicides increase), and at the end homicides drop the fastest as spending goes up highest
Just shared it with my friends on Facebook. Do a search for "I would vote to legalize marijuana & hemp" and join us if you think that America deserves better!
BTW>>>>the War on Drugs is expensive and inefficient. About the only thing worse would be a soceity without it.
Would folks on welfare do more or less drugs if they were cheaper and legal? Would folks in the ghetto do more of less crack if it were cheaper and legal?
Would there be more or less birth defects in children if mothers could buy Meth at the store?
Just because the War on Drugs sucks doesn't mean the alternative would be better.
@westpacific52 Did you watch whole video? Look at Portugal, since 2001 the use of drugs is down, and if the coke were legal, do you think people would buy that crap, i don't think so.
The US ain't Portugal. Idiots buy coke now, when it's expensive and hard to find. If it were cheaper and readily available, I think it's safe to assume people would do more of it.
If drugs become legal....
Everyone already doing dangerous drugs would do more of them, and people on the fringes will succome to the temptation if they were readily available and cheap.
I'm not talking about pot, I'm talking about coke, meth, oxycodeine, LSD, etc.
@westpacific52 But maybe if we spent BILLIONS of dollars on HELPING people, education and offering treatment, instead of stigmatizing and policing something we obviously can't stop, then maybe the demand for drugs would decrease more than it has by making it illegal. We NEED to try something new as the current policy is a complete failure and a violation of human rights.
@westpacific52 First of all, LSD is a completely safe substance. Psychedelics/Hallucinogens pose no risk compared to alcohol and tobacco.
More generally though, there is simply no evidence to support the assertion that liberalizing drug laws leads to higher usage. In fact, all available evidence points in exactly the opposite direction.
@westpacific52 I don't see how it's your place to say what someone else should or should not do. If coke was legal and a 21 yr old wanted to get some, by all means get it. Lord knows there are already 50 prescription drugs having close to a similar effect probably being stuffed down his younger sisters throat because of big pharma and the gov't anyways. To me your statements show a very closed mind. These types of fears are exactly what the Drug War are trying to achieve.
We call it a civilized society. I don't want to live in a place where the weak are taken advantage of by the strong, especially in the human weakness of getting high.
Take your "Big Pharma and gov't" conspiracy somewhere else. When one member of society is addicted to coke/meth is ABSOLUTELY has a negative effect on those around (family, friends,co-workers, strangers on the highway, TAXPAYERS, etc.) Pot is de facto legal here in Calif, I'm talking about coke, meth, etc..
Sadly people keep ignoring this. And as long this keeps happening, nothing will change. For example, Bill O'Reily (Fox) said Amsterdam was full of thugs and criminals and in between the lines said most ppl are drug users. Statistics show that dutch murder rates are lower then in Chicago or NY and that marijuana use is lower in The Netherlands then the US.
To which O'Reilly replied that the EU use different ways to measure the statistics and therefor, they were false.
Peaceful mass civil disobedience by the way. Violence will not work, that will add to the governments anti drugs view/cause if violence is used.
Why shouldn't we be able to choose what we put in our own bodies?
If you add up the deaths from heroin, crack, meth, speed, MDMA and others-you still wont be scrathing the surface of the death tally when it comes to alcohol and tobacco, yet they wont ban them? WTF is up there?
Time to wake up, the government doesn't want people freeing their minds!
Time for change, the people need to push it with the MP's in control.
Mass civil disobedience is needed. If everyone grows, sells and smokes/takes their drugs openly, then the court systems will break down from the sheer amount of people going through their doors day in day out.
There would soon be uproar and cries for change, especially when murderers, rapists and paedo's aren't getting sent to jail because the courts and jails are full of drug offenders.
Chills. We know all this and yet it takes sharp presentation like this to really get under the skin. Pass this around to everyone in your networks. Vote for leaders who get it. Don't let this stupid war last another generation.
@kulkulkanqi And your evidence about President Calderón supporting the Sinaloa Cartel is where?
Don't get me wrong, the Mexican government strategy is failed -as failed as almost any other government's strategy, But making unsupported accusations like that one doesn't help.

This is all based on the assumption that the aim of the war on drugs is to reduce use. It isn't. It's a way to control the market.
gunsunderthecounter 1 year ago
@gunsunderthecounter And in what way is the Government controlling that market to any positive effect? Drugs like Marijuana are used more than ever. The War on Drugs is a failure in every single way.
ShadyRonin 1 year ago
@gunsunderthecounter You're actually false. The War on Drugs, was, to quote directly from wikipedia, "intended to both define and reduce the illegal drug trade." With a reduction in illegal drug trade, people cannot buy it and therefore the usage would drop. It would be fair to say the War on Drugs was put into effect to reduce usage.

I have the answer to solve the "conflict" on drugs! It's called praying! God can solve these problems, people can't! God saved us from death with his son, Jesus Christ, but he can also do anything. "With men all is impossible, but with God all things are possible." (Math. 19:26)
Duhpan 1 year ago
@Duhpan This is why i have no faith in humanity, people like you.
HouseOfElectro 1 year ago
@Duhpan Think about what actually happens when you pray. All you are doing is visualizing your goals and asking God for strength. God can't actually influence anyone's behavior, because we have free will. God also can't influence nature, because it's governed by a set of basic physical laws. So it seems that while God may have the answers, it's up to humans to take action. Hope this helps you in some small way.

Drug prohibition exists because doing things by force is a very profitable business model. Taxes taken by force pay for the police to arrest people by force and place them into prisons, many of them private or making things for private corporations.

State by state the war on drugs must come to end.
chinesechongo 1 year ago 4
@chinesechongo yes, it must. I have a feeling that eventually it will come to an end, not because it is wrong and immoral, unconstitutional, and it doesn't work, and it is a failure, and it's destroying lives, and punishments are nearly as over the top as possible... but the war will end just because they'll realize the economy will be better off without the war on drugs. Finally, after the war is over, only then they'll look back and realize how ridiculous it was.
fnog9 1 year ago 2
by funding anti-drug efforts, we should consider that those who may never engage chemicals are driven to consider the issues, when in fact if reasonable accomodation of scientific minds with useable science rather than wastefull nonsense could interest persons such as myself such that the risk would be reduced greater than anti-drug efforts have done.

Give the DEA guys a job with a POSITIVE effect and everyone is happy.
fnog9 1 year ago

Decriminalization is not the same as condoning drug use. It’s just that the law enforcement approach has failed to reduce drug use. There is virtually no correlation between the legality of drugs and their abuse. Legal drugs are abused all the time.

To just spout off a bunch of statistics about the War on Drugs takes no real intellect.
westpacific52 1 year ago
@westpacific52 Not everyone that partakes in drug use turns into an addictive uncontrollable downward spiralling case of drug abuse. Some people can do drugs very controllably, while some people are highly addicted and more than likely suffer in other ways already. Any argument you can use as far as coke meth crack etc. etc. was at one time used for prohibition of alcohol. And SHOULD be centered towards cigarettes and their purposefully addictive qualities. Drugs/plants ARE civilization.
CloudyCraze 1 year ago 3
@CloudyCraze
coke and meth are a LOT more harmful than liquor, and a lot more physically addictive. I understand the comparison between booze and pot, but coke and meth are not pot. NOBODY, but NOBODY can do meth or coke every day and function without some type of harm to society. People can drink, and people can smoke pot every day without harm to the rest of society.
westpacific52 1 year ago
@westpacific52 Statistically the abuse of these drugs are in underdeveloped and undereducated regions. Crack meth and heroine are drugs I will never do. I have seen what these things can do to people. A lot of times they do these things because of their situation in the first place (underdeveloped and undereducated) and the way the black market is set up along with prohibition, it creates these environments in the first place, thus creating the cycle. Education and understanding > anything.
CloudyCraze 1 year ago
@westpacific52
Yes the US and Portugual are two different countries, one being a first world country and the other being a 2-3rd world country. With that said, it is safe to assume that Portugual would have a higher rise of addiction based on their hardships yet their rates of addiction, abuse, etc have gone down...why is that?
enjoidanielz 1 year ago
@enjoidanielz Your first point is wrong, Portugal is a first world country just like the US. Just wanted to clear that up.
BonzoIsBack 1 year ago
@enjoidanielz: Good point. Lots of staunch supporters of the Drug War always pull the xenophobic "oh, but ______ is a totally different country than _______", but almost always without justifying this racist/cultural chauvinism viewpoint.
Fact is: Portugal had very severe drug problems. So bad that "something had to be done". Totally uncharacteristic for politicians they decided in1999 to review the entire drug policy approach. Then in 2001 implemented the most redical decrim act ever.

The USA has failed drug laws. The USA has privitized prisons which politicians have invested in. The USA has more people in prison for drug offenses than anything else. some of the data use is pretty sketchy:
- why do the data for price/purity for weed and heroin stop more than a decade ago?
- what are the unit values in those graphs (how much pot could you get for $1.20) ?
- the graph at 2:08 has a bunch of problems: the data again are at least a decade old, "homicide rate" doesn't mean drug related violence, "causation" could be the other way around (more money spent as homicides increase), and at the end homicides drop the fastest as spending goes up highest

Just because the War on Drugs sucks doesn't mean the alternative would be better.
westpacific52 1 year ago
@westpacific52 Did you watch whole video? Look at Portugal, since 2001 the use of drugs is down, and if the coke were legal, do you think people would buy that crap, i don't think so.
hanibals92 1 year ago
@hanibals92
I'm not talking about pot, I'm talking about coke, meth, oxycodeine, LSD, etc.
westpacific52 1 year ago
@westpacific52 But maybe if we spent BILLIONS of dollars on HELPING people, education and offering treatment, instead of stigmatizing and policing something we obviously can't stop, then maybe the demand for drugs would decrease more than it has by making it illegal. We NEED to try something new as the current policy is a complete failure and a violation of human rights.
sliptivity 1 year ago
@westpacific52 First of all, LSD is a completely safe substance. Psychedelics/Hallucinogens pose no risk compared to alcohol and tobacco.
More generally though, there is simply no evidence to support the assertion that liberalizing drug laws leads to higher usage. In fact, all available evidence points in exactly the opposite direction.
Rhayader27510 1 year ago
So do you asshats really want a 21 year old to be able to go to Rite Aid and buy coke? Want to see LSD for sale at 7-11?
Really?
I want to be a part of a soceity that takes care of it's weaker links. If we need to put more of them in prison, so be it.
westpacific52 1 year ago
@westpacific52 I don't see how it's your place to say what someone else should or should not do. If coke was legal and a 21 yr old wanted to get some, by all means get it. Lord knows there are already 50 prescription drugs having close to a similar effect probably being stuffed down his younger sisters throat because of big pharma and the gov't anyways. To me your statements show a very closed mind. These types of fears are exactly what the Drug War are trying to achieve.
CloudyCraze 1 year ago 3

We call it a civilized society. I don't want to live in a place where the weak are taken advantage of by the strong, especially in the human weakness of getting high.

REDEYE420ERBMAN 1 year ago
Time for change, the people need to push it with the MP's in control.
Mass civil disobedience is needed. If everyone grows, sells and smokes/takes their drugs openly, then the court systems will break down from the sheer amount of people going through their doors day in day out.
There would soon be uproar and cries for change, especially when murderers, rapists and paedo's aren't getting sent to jail because the courts and jails are full of drug offenders.
