Thank you, Cyberlucy. My dad served in the Army in France immediately after it was liberated and Japan as part of the Occupation force. He passed away five years ago next month. Your photos remind me so much of him and his immense pride in his service in the military during WWII. The photos depict those men and women in their prime. Most of them are gone now. I'm very sentimental about my parents' generation. That's why I listen to the music from the 30's, 40's and 50's.
Thanks for the song. Btw, could people please stop posting their age. Age has nothing to do with whether or not a song is good. It's good that you're young and like this sort of stuff (Same here, 16.). However, a lot of the time it just seems like you're trying to get a pat on the back. @rockerhead247 it's not exactly that they had class it's just a different time period. That being said WWII was the last justified war we fought. For that I salute those soldiers.
Wow, men back then made soldiers have class. Nowadays, of course, they're just as brave and honorable, but no war had as much class as WWII while being as brutal as it was.
@msanchezbigband Don't be so quick to brand "today's generation". I'm 14, joining the Marines when I turn 18. Not because I want a hero, but so someone else doesn't need to. I'm not the smartest person in the world and that's why being a soldier is important to me, so that someone else from my generation can grow up and invent some kind of new fuel or find a cure for cancer or something like that. Just because most of us are what you describe doesn't make as all like that.
Cyberlucy, great tribute to your Dad. One point; not a single picture of a Black American or any other minority in these photos - a reflection of the segregation of the Armed Forces at the time, in spite of President Truman's edict. I'm not trying to put you down, just a mention of somethng that should be known and acknowledged. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks for your comment on my video. In doing it I was making a personal tribute to my father and some of the people he served with not to make a statement about the times or to necessarily represent everyone. You are certainly right about that and my father served in Okinawa where one of the biggest racists in the history of the military (Gen. Simon Buckner) was a commanding officer.
I have a huge favor to ask! I am planning a fundraising event related to WWII and I would love to be able to show this video. Is there any way I could get a copy of it from you? This would be perfect!
Thank you so much for this! A couple of these pictures really remind me of my own grandpa, who was a Seabee in the South Pacific in World War II. Wonderful tribute. And great music!

I love what you have done. I created a web site to honor my father and the men who served with him in WWII. (search 1270thengineercombatbattalion)
He played the trumped in an army big band before being transferred to the engineers. I wonder if he played this song?

Kudos. Today's generation knows nothing about self-sacrifice. Suffering is transformation, not destruction. May they wake up out of their coma.

Fluid drive was a type of transmission system used in some US tanks during WWII. I believe it was developed by Chrysler Corp.
