Continued: I liked the latch handle that had a chain and pin to prevent the handle from moving to the open position. That is not used on light aircraft. Usually the door opening happens on older aircraft with worn door latch parts. Replaced all the parts on the Aztec and it never happened again. By installing the extra handle on the Aztec it allowed for easier closing of the door on the ground only. The door usually only opens a few inches. At 200 mph it will scare the hell out of you.
I felw for over 34 years and had the door come open on several occasions on several different types of aircraft. It is noisy and scares the hell out of the passengers, but the only safety issue is your airspeed will read lower than the actual airspeed. Since most light aircraft have the door handle near the hinge side of the door it is almost impossible to close even with the vent window open. After the third time this happened on a Piper aztec I had a handle installed on the latch side.
America has all these nasty overhead cables. We should make our country modern like UAE, China, Hong Kong, UK...etc where they have underground cables. This will make aviation a lot safer too.
It's not the door's fault, it's the pilots fault for not flying the plane. A Cirrus, or any other plane for that matter won't crash because the doors open! Pilot failed to fly the plane!
It's not about the door (or any other distraction); it's about the stupid Cirrus pilots not flying the stupid airplane!!!

The door can't pop open in flight. Too much airflow. Shut your mouth you dumb fuck.
