@AnimeFanatic5602 The film came out in '89, with a rather small budget. They didn't have access to CG effects then (this was several years before it became popular with T2 and Jurassic Park); it's conventional animation dissolving into slow-motion flames. Even then though, the footage of the original test would've been jarring in it's poor quality for the story.
I really like this version of dance of the mirlitons. Its high tempo makes it sound exciting yet sinister at the same time. Perfect song in this situation.
I haven't changed my position... pretty sure the "do we know anything about this lodgers background living with a 15 year old" consisted of a background check of "well, he looked alright to me...once we got him off the strteet and showered him". That wasn't important, that house was it?
@TheDustFactory= Gila monster. The radiation probably mutated it into a giant dragonlike creature that terrorizes the New Mexico desert. Or, it's probably in the warehouse with the Ark.
@coolmartcola It the movie Fat man little boy, Its a great movie that deserves way more credit. Also lookup the clip here on youtube called tickling the dragon, Its from the same movie as this.
Not quit right. The explanation is simple: the bomb wasn't done in time. It was built to explode in/over Nazi-Germany, possible targets were Berlin or Frankfurt/M.
But the war in Europe end in May 1945.
The first detonation of an A-Bomb was in July 1945, as you can see in this movie.
My grandmother has pictures of the trinity test and a few more things...
He also talked about a certain time when they had to take all train carts and railway tracks from the base and bury them in a strategic location.....he still never understood why. If only they knew....
That's right... that was MY Nutcracker poster in my bedroom. Did you have a warrant that time either, like the Britney Spears poster on Toronto Street?
Lesson there...
No, FUCK YOU..Spinach And Spuds... I had to smack the shit out of you when I was a kid too.
You see, I"ve been trying to explain since the 80s that this is how the "Other" British are convinced that they've ever actually done ANYTHING in their lives. But that's ok now. Feet up on desk, cup of tea lyrics...OMFG. I puked too..
The book The Making of the Atomic bomb by Richard Rhodes will tell you everything you wanted to know about the bomb. Just an amazing book. So much detail.
Interesting in the Dolby Stereo 6track mix how the music nut cracker starts off as tiny sound coming from a radio set. Then slowly builds up with tonally fully frequency while slowing spreading into left/right and surrounds, the final denotation moment KABOOM LCRS LFE.1!
Does this movie have anything that is...mm...inappropriate or just too weird to watch? Because I'd like to see it, but am ve~ry picky about what I take my time to see.
at 0:35 to 0:43 I sure as hell hoped that they'd been kidding...if not then they were about to light off a weapon with the power of the sun itself with absolutely no idea if it would just destroy a small part of the earth, or set the damn atmosphere on fire. Either way, to do so without a reasonable guess of the consequences would be totally irresponsible.
@darthroden A lot of the scientists placed bets as to what would happen. Some genuinely had anxieties that New Mexico or even the whole world could have been destroyed. Some didn't even think it would go off.
Technical problem here. The bomb goes off and immediately Oppenheimer is hit by the shock wave. Light travels faster than sound; there would have been a delay.
What are you talking about? The light hit his eyes approx 1-2 sec before he got blasted by the surrounding air, NOT a shockwave. You don't get "hit" by a shockwave. Also a shockwave means that the debris from the explosion is traveling FASTER than the speed of sound, which we know it is for an atom bomb. So it is possible it could have very little delay depending on the amount of energy released. The scene in the movie is VERY accurate actually.
this movie is an absolute grosely underrated and unknown gem. I wonder why this movie never made a big stand out, Cause everyone I asked never knew this film existed. I just so happened to catch it on tv a few years back and now I am hooked on it. DAMN SHAME! Paul Newman you kick ass!
@jacklibbb lol you realize that the "blast wave" moves almost twice as fast then the speed of sound, literally take a second or 2 for it to reach them
Wounding if it would take some 6seconds for the air to reach the bunker? I know if air blows from the port of sub it would take a few seconds for it to reach a candle flame and flutter the flame a little bit also depends on the frequency as upper bass lows don’t have a lot of air blowing out, it’s the lower pitched notes below 50Hz, put playing it a high level sounds unnatural because its not reproducing the real thing, which would destroy you and the homes around you.
Yep - in the film, the sound of the bast took 1 or 2 seconds to reach the bunker. sound moves at about 340 meters per second - everyone there would have been killed.
Also if they were so close that they felt the blast wave 3 seconds after the blast, they certainly would have been killed.
The whole cheeks hollowing thing was total fiction
The bunker with Oppenheimer was a full 10 miles from the blast
It's called a little dramatic licence...it's a little unrealistic to expect the audience in the cinema to wait 4r0 secs for the blast to actually hit.
...and thar she went.
