These look more like Japanese Akita's than Shiba's, too big. Shiba's only range in the mid 20's for males and 15-20 for females, these dogs look to be around 35-40 pounds. Which fits the Akita model.
These are Shiba's, not Akita's. Akita's are much larger. I have a Shiba and it is truly a great dog to have. The first two years you may question it, but after that they make a big turn around and become much calmer and yet playful. You may never have a more loyal dog.

If you own them you can get a pretty good idea of how big the dogs are by looking at them. I also said Japanese Akita, not the American breed which are very nice dogs but I like the Japanese Akita better. Some are in full coat and others are shedding or have been shed. Females may look "skinnier" than males do and also age can be a reason that one dog looks skinnier than the other dog.
My kennelname is "Jaklho". I have 2 imports (females) from the USA from Mrs. Pat Doescher's Hi-Jinx kennel en 2 imports (males) from Japan. One of the males is Ch. Seiryu Go Niigata Kiyosatosow (Sumo). Then I have 2 that I have bred myself, a 5 year old female and a 4 month old male.
hey i've a question...if you were to hypothetically take all of them for a leash free wilderness walk....would they stick together? do you think if one or all went off after an animal they would stay in a pack and return to you/home? perhaps less of the lone wolf mentality when they have that many in their pack ...thanks for any insight

1. Read as much as possible about the breed. Shibas, despite their cute appearance, are not the easiest breed to own. When not well trained and socialized, they can be a disaster.
2. Get in touch with the breed-club. That is the National Shiba Club of Amierica, or NSCA.
3. Go to several breeders and I mean the reputable breeders only. You can find a list of breeders on the club's website. Let them educate you before you make your decision to buy a Shiba pup.

These Shibas seem bigger than most shibas on youtube, are they? I have a puppy and I am wondering how big he will get. Also, his fur isn't as long as these shibas.
Well..., what to say? All these Shibas have won championship tickets and all of these Shibas have won championship titles (national- and/or international). So you may presume that the size of all of these dog's is correct according to the breed's standard. If you have questions about your Shiba puppy you should ask the breeder where you bought your puppy. He/she can inform you about this.
Moles: yes, but they don't eat them. Mice: yes and they do eat them if they get the change. I have seen them catch birds, rats and even once a weasel, however, this is very rare. I don't encourage them to do this, but obviously this is something which is in their genes. After all, they are hunting dogs.

Are your Shibas in a fenced-in area? I hear a road nearby and it scares me. I had a Shiba who could never be off her leash outside because she would bolt and run full speed away from me. If they aren't fenced in, how do you teach them not to run away?
No need to be scared... I think, in the last 16 years, I have proven to take very good care of my Shibas ;-). There is a small ditch (which they easily can jump over - but they don't do it) around our property and in front of the house there is an iron gate. Just watch my other videos and you can see what I mean.
I think they don't run away, because they are having such a good time with us. I can't think of any other reason...

Cool, I had no idea what a shiba inu was until about 6 years ago I saw one at the ASPCA and was lucky enough to get her and we've been best friends ever since.
Your Shibas are beautiful and oh what a nice life you give them! Have any of yours had any trouble with cataracts? (or anyone out there?) Mine is almost 10 & is going blind from them. She is a very smart girl & you wouldn't know it in the house, but outside I guide her with her with her leash & my voice. Feel so sad for her... : (
I'm so sorry to hear that your Shiba suffers from this. The dogs that we breed with have all passed their health checks and we check eyes once every year. This minimizes the chance in their offspring of getting this. Unfortunately there are too many not-responsible breeders, not to speak of the puppy mills, that will never do any health check on the dogs they breed with. I know dogs that gone blind and still live many more, happy years. I am sure that's the same for your 10-year-olds. Good luck.
Thanks for your kind words! I know, I am guilty of purchasing my baby from a pet store. I won't do it again, as she has had many health issues, especially severe allergies. I am so thankful that she is mine though, as I can't picture her with a better mom than I. I have spoiled her rotten and love her even more for what she has gone through. I will get my next one from a reputable breeder... I still have no regrets tho that we found eachother! Thanks again... keep posting please!

i have an 11 year old. he walks off the leash everywhere. he sits at curb until i say the cross command. i can go across the street and he wont fallow. he's never on leash. great dogs, not for everyone though.

so im thinking about gettin a shiba. in a while when we move to a farm with bout 200 acres on it. we have a springer and a bishon poo. do you have any suggestions for owning a shiba? i read that they were boar hunters so they are probs a little fiesty right?

My suggestions to you:
1. Read as much as possible about the breed. Shibas, despite their cute appearance, are not the easiest breed to own. When not well trained and socialized, they can be a disaster.
2. Get in touch with the breed-club. That is the National Shiba Club of Amierica, or NSCA.
3. Go to several breeders and I mean the reputable breeders only. You can find a list of breeders on the club's website. Let them educate you before you make your decision to buy a Shiba pup.

@thefranster14 I have a shiba he is a really good boy. We crate-trained him and he doesnt bark or have accidents in the house. Hope this helps!

@thefranster14 both my shibas do play fight together, my older shiba doesn't like it as much because hes now an older chilled back dog, but the puppy is very energetic and might annoy other animals

These Shibas seem bigger than most shibas on youtube, are they? I have a puppy and I am wondering how big he will get. Also, his fur isn't as long as these shibas.

Well..., what to say? All these Shibas have won championship tickets and all of these Shibas have won championship titles (national- and/or international). So you may presume that the size of all of these dog's is correct according to the breed's standard. If you have questions about your Shiba puppy you should ask the breeder where you bought your puppy. He/she can inform you about this.

That's what I figured because my friend has two shibas and they are all the time killing rabbits , birds , mice. They really are superior hunters.

Moles: yes, but they don't eat them. Mice: yes and they do eat them if they get the change. I have seen them catch birds, rats and even once a weasel, however, this is very rare. I don't encourage them to do this, but obviously this is something which is in their genes. After all, they are hunting dogs.

I am enviable. Wide garden and a lot of Shibas.
It is expensive in Japan to have a big garden.

Are your Shibas in a fenced-in area? I hear a road nearby and it scares me. I had a Shiba who could never be off her leash outside because she would bolt and run full speed away from me. If they aren't fenced in, how do you teach them not to run away?

No need to be scared... I think, in the last 16 years, I have proven to take very good care of my Shibas ;-). There is a small ditch (which they easily can jump over - but they don't do it) around our property and in front of the house there is an iron gate. Just watch my other videos and you can see what I mean.
I think they don't run away, because they are having such a good time with us. I can't think of any other reason...

Cool, I had no idea what a shiba inu was until about 6 years ago I saw one at the ASPCA and was lucky enough to get her and we've been best friends ever since.

Your Shibas are beautiful and oh what a nice life you give them! Have any of yours had any trouble with cataracts? (or anyone out there?) Mine is almost 10 & is going blind from them. She is a very smart girl & you wouldn't know it in the house, but outside I guide her with her with her leash & my voice. Feel so sad for her... : (

I'm so sorry to hear that your Shiba suffers from this. The dogs that we breed with have all passed their health checks and we check eyes once every year. This minimizes the chance in their offspring of getting this. Unfortunately there are too many not-responsible breeders, not to speak of the puppy mills, that will never do any health check on the dogs they breed with. I know dogs that gone blind and still live many more, happy years. I am sure that's the same for your 10-year-olds. Good luck.

Thanks for your kind words! I know, I am guilty of purchasing my baby from a pet store. I won't do it again, as she has had many health issues, especially severe allergies. I am so thankful that she is mine though, as I can't picture her with a better mom than I. I have spoiled her rotten and love her even more for what she has gone through. I will get my next one from a reputable breeder... I still have no regrets tho that we found eachother! Thanks again... keep posting please!

i have an 11 year old. he walks off the leash everywhere. he sits at curb until i say the cross command. i can go across the street and he wont fallow. he's never on leash. great dogs, not for everyone though.

I have a black/tan Shiba and I am thinking about getting another one. It would be amazing to have 7 but I don't think I could afford it!!
