All Fox does is provide them with their national feed and stock video so they can air FOX programming when they're not doing local programming and showing syndicated programming.

McDonalds is a franchise, meaning they "rent out" their brand to franchise owners, who go and open local stores. But McD's does not support the individual actions of these stores. For example, if the franchise owner decides to make a "trade your weed for McMuffins" deal or something, McD's corp does not support those actions because they don't own the store. But that store still has a McD's logo.
