@radiokid2 Especially Wayne Shorter. I think he is my favorite tenor player who was also a composer. I like him even better than John Coltrane and Dexter Gordon, I don't think Dexter Gordon was a very prolific composer though but his tone and phrasing were brilliant.
I've always noticed at 4:19 when it ends, Jaco looks like he thought they were going to go on longer, and he walks over to Joe (probably to ask him why).
Just one question, What year is this, i know it,s 70s somewhere Jaco sounds in his prime here, not the drugged out alchi manic depressive he became in the 80s, , i loved the guy even in his 80s downfall, so tragic so much talent RIP Jaco!!!!
@williamgdrew Yeh terrible what happened to Jaco - but where do you go after this? Writing a tune like that, playing like that with a band that good... he must have thought he ruled the world. I know I would.
Can't get enough of this clip. The more I see the more I notice. Really intricate stuff: true musicianship and proof of a really 'tight' band. Jaco (for me) brings it all together though. Sad waste of great talent.
@boxing1000 You are right! My father was a dourche bag and a graet fan of Jaco! Can you sent your adrees? As lovers of homosexuel music, we must meat soon.

@boxing1000 Wierd fantasies, my love. Now it comes clear to me why you are so hot about Jacco and his Burbu basslines. And of coarse you are gay: Anal characters are always into correcct grammar ;-)
@andifyouhadtwocoats Not to be cynical, but I have a feeling that your faulty spelling and lack of capitalization is intentional, and just an attempt to lure the grammar nazis/trolls. Usually, people who grossly misspell, are also guilty of not punctuating and bad syntax, which doesn't seem the case here - from what I see. Perhaps before you post on youtube where the letters a very small; try zooming in the text in order to see your errors - if they are indeed errors (wink). Just a suggestion...

In response to LORYZINHA...there's book "JACO" written by Bill Milkowski which explains Jaco's rise to the top and events leading up to his tragic death at age 35. I saw Weather Report at the Tower Theater in Philadelphia on their last American Tour....JACO was the most amazing musician live....he created a musical frenzy both on and off thee stage.
Agreed! MTV generation needs to watch and weep. Jaco has never been topped yet! Neither has the likes and chops of Wayne Shorter who wrote his first masterpiece "Night Dreamer" in 1965 barely 20 y/o. Shut up, liten and learn. None of those handheld wireless toys you snap up can replace ARTISTS.....time for a Artistic Revolution. Great Video Clip too
why have we let the MTV gen, etc. starve us of the greatest music?? You Tube and the people giving us these memories should be given exceptionally high praise. we cannot let these fantastic musicians be forgotten. Eurpoe still has it-why not in USA? I showed this stuff to some next gen, and they were dumbfounded. People are still starving for great music. musicians, keep these heros in your music somehow; let's give these kids some chance of a future with true musical inspiration.
there are MANY amazing bands in the us...but the music everyone listens to here..or thats really popular rather is the assembly line/manufactured music. just like the food everyone loves here.
sometimes you just need a burger. but for more exotic stuff, check the Mahavishnu Orchestra stuff, a clip from Syracuse Univ in 1972, ex, or Paco Delucia in his kitchen with his "homies"-- not manufactured.
I agree that MANY people like that pop music, but not ALL....it's called popular because the majority like the "manufactured" music. I don't like pop, or "manufactured" music.... I like jazz and funk and all that good stuff. Just saying that not ALL of the people in the US listen to pop music that's "manufactured".
Thank you to bearshimmy1 for finding this awesome memory from 30 years ago when I was in the front row watching Jaco perform. His work with WR and Jone Mitchell were cut short too early. Another symbol of drug abuse, such a waste.
Don't listen to zxcvmook. He's just jealous that he hasn't 1/16 of the musical talent that jaco, Zawinul, or any of the weather report boys had. Let him spout his ass off.
Yeah I know exactly how he died as do a lot of people; this isn't some new revelation dumbshit. Go back to your trailer and linkin park you stupid ass.
zxcvmook. u are a complete dick! i hope u go rot in hell. u think he deserved to die for being as u say 'a smart ass wise ass fagot'? ur a fukin prick kid. go listen to some friggin pop punk u peice of shit.
Jaco as always with a masterful performance, but let's not forget one of the greatest percussion sections in jazz history,Manolo Badrena and Alex Acuna. Manolo is one of my favorite percussionists of all time!!
Wow...great live performance of Rumba Mumba. Good to see Acuna slapping the congas and Manolos doing some tight timbale licks. I'd actually say there little opener for Teen Town was a lot tighter than Teen Town itself...still my favorite group of all time. Thank you Bearshimmy1.

People are still starving for great music. musicians, keep these heros in your music somehow; let's give these kids some chance of a future with true musical inspiration.

there are MANY amazing bands in the us...but the music everyone listens to here..or thats really popular rather is the assembly line/manufactured music. just like the food everyone loves here.
imloki420 4 years ago
sometimes you just need a burger. but for more exotic stuff, check the Mahavishnu Orchestra stuff, a clip from Syracuse Univ in 1972, ex, or Paco Delucia in his kitchen with his "homies"-- not manufactured.
ricrica2010 4 years ago

AresCassell 4 years ago
Screw ignorant fools..anyway, Black Market Place
(Barbary Coast) Weather Report Album had an international musical ambience. Jaco fit right in.
For myself, the music created NEW worlds of imagination pre-MTV. Thanks Jaco!

jaco was a troubled artist like many. the troubled side
had nada to do with his genuis and contribution to
the arts and that unique voice in his bass playing.
