I remember this race like it was yesterday. I was so happy for Mark, but more for Minardi. They were awesome.

It's a shame Mark had such bad luck between 2002 and 2009 with horrible cars that broke down more often than they worked. Lewis Hamilton and Sebastian Vettel, consider yourself lucky, you never had to work to get a good car!

he only finished 5th because of the huge crash on the first corner of the first lap that wiped out half the field. there should have been a red flag, but they only deployed the safety car, so no one was allowed to get into a backup car.

still a great drive in a shit car.

I hope so too. Although I have a soft spot for the underdog teams, it is always those showing great promise and determination against the odds. For HRT I feel absolutely nothing. It seems they are in F1 just to make up the numbers.

I agree. HRT was a sloppy team from the go. Chassis delivered by Dallara at first, was it? Then they couldn't find personel to design new parts for the car.

It was originally called something else too. Was it Campos Racing? It never raced under that name.

I think this season is the last for HRT, and they will either get bought out or disappear altogether.

Minardi, best team in F1 ever, crap cars but their hospitality was easily the best in the paddock. If you wanted a proper cup of coffee, you went to Minardi. Come back Giancarlo, you know you want to run an F1 team again!

i was so happy for minardi that day ! and guess what ? they've beaten toyota in the constructors championship because of this 5th place (they had both, Minardi and Toyota, 2 points, bu the Minardi made them with one 5th place and the Toyota with two 6th places, thanks to Mika Salo)

Yeap. But did you know that in that first race of 2002, both Arrows did not start to warm up lap. In pits they where started after 5 laps (Frentzen). Later his gearbox broke down. But Bernoldi had black flag .... he get out from his "race car" and run to pits for T-car !!! And simpy Tom Walkinshaw put him on the track ... now thats nasty ;-)

your consideration is not completely correct. Also Frentzen was black flagged because he restarted from the pit lane with red light

Minardi has always been one of the worst cars in F1. I remember the worst was the Forte ford.

@dabomb2003 - Everyone knows that Minardi's lack of competetive performance was because of their small budget. They were a tiny team and everyone recognised them as such. But they were well liked in the paddock and a valuable asset in Formula 1. Minardi was a good way for rookies to get a drive, just look at what Alonso, Webber and Fisi have achieved in their F1 careers. They all started at Minardi.
