I would deff go with the Kodak for the simple fact of Flip is discontinued. Kodak image quality is more vibrant than the Flip as well.

I just bought the kodak playtouch and use it for my videos now but I was just wondering if you have done a side by side or the playtouch vs the flip..I'm thinking about buying another camera for a spare and am torn between another playtouch or a flip or possibly some other brand..any advice?

@percaine i dont have the flip anymore. the playtouch is a good camcorder. others to look at are: panasonic ta1, kodak playsport zx3,zx5, panasonic ta2, the panasonic dc1 is great but more of a main camera than a back up. i think out of all that i would go for the TA1 or the zx3.

The Kodak's sound quality is crappy in the video because the mic is faced AWAY from the person recording. Other than that, the playsport is amazing compared to the flip, the flip is going out of business because Samsung and Kodak are smashing them haha. And I would know because I own the Samsung w200, Kodak playsport zx5, and the Flip Ultra HD 8gb.

Chrisc you sounded not happy. If you could read the keys in the Flip on the video ten my glasses must be changed, b/c I did not even need that for te PS.something is just not right, was this Pure digital cam Brand new. As this now may hold true on hte Zi8 that certain situations later on of ownership the cam will begin to show it's true colours blurriness on shots if vid or stills. just a observation on Chrisc's vids.

@fishycomics i am ok. what i have realised is that the flip goes a little bit blurry when recording in low light. i think i was a bit sad because i thought my new flip was faulty. but its ok. thanks fishy

Indoors Kodak is better but the color has a shirt to red but still looks good. Flip has no detail but the white balance is better on Flip.

Outdoor Kodak looks better but Flip has a better White balance.

The audio on the Flip is way better but I think out of your test the Panasonic had the best audio.

Good video comparison. The huge difference that I see (that to me is even more important than exact color balance or even brightness) is the sharpness or resolution of the picture which is clearly much better on the playsport. It almost looks like the flip is out of focus. Check the sharpness of the keyboard in the low light.

Thanks for the video, it's very helpful, one thing I noticed is that the sound on the flip ultra hd is much better than the playsport, at least it's that way on youtube, what are your thoughts on comparing the sound of both cameras?

Another great test...It will be interesting to see the zi8 in comparison. After all...zi8 was said to be the flip killer. Would be nice to see the comparison with some human subjects...I find the zi8 slightly blurry with the lines on faces...sometimes not...kind of weird. Merry Christmas Chris

Hiya Chris,

The playsport is definetely sharper, (more real colours?) and seems to have more contrast but better detail in the trees outside as well.

The flip is brighter but as said before with an orange/pink wash over the vid.

ps got me playsport in and my 16gb card came today. Shame all light is gone when I got home lol. A very happy camper here.
