Does anyone remember the bumper stickers on the cars from the late 60's? There was one that simply said "Do you?" and another that said only "I do." I never did know what that was all about.
I lived on Oahu from 75-78, and I remember Liberty House, Daiei, Pioneer's chicken - all gone now.... Whenever I go back I miss the smell of the warm pineapple from the Dole factory, Checkers & Pogo, and the Japanese kids' tv we used to watch...
Do you remember they used to advertise "Redondo's Sausage" during "Checkers & Pogo"? I still remember the theme song: "Yessir, Redondo's, turn on with Redondo's, Redondo's, that special sausage! Redondo's sausage turns me on!" No double entendre there! :)
"Your dollar buys more at the Wigwam store - Wigwam!" And remember the heavy-set asian woman with the cowboy hat, boots and gunbelt plugging some furniture store. And Hilo Hattie was still alive doing juice commercials - "It will tickle you pinkly"!
@opiedrum The "heavy-set Asian woman" was Josephine, and the tag line she used at the end of each commercial she did was "Consumer City is REAL bargain country, or my name ain't Josephine! Twenty three - ten Kam Highway - that's the map!"
HPC was a unit of KGMB-TV in the early mid 1980s in Honolulu,Hawaii,
durring the Lee Enterprises years-The Kapiolani Blvd location, ended an
era.as KGMB closed its historic location, the last TV station in the islands,
to be downsized as "HAWAII NEWS NOW" in late 2009,as part of the
broadcasting opps of Raycom Media-a very unwise move, when you
consider KGMB's decades old history and cultural value,.the station
could have been saved! but,as in all business,it was "Downsized"-which
is even harder!
