oh goodness! i can see why my voice teacher wants me to listen to Cecilia Bartoli. and i am now SO excited to start learning this aria. She's so gorgeous! both voice and self!
The aria is a bit weird for me.Especially at the part"where the devil hides his tail/dove il diavolo ha la coda"Bartoli is an extremely good singer, but she doesn't care about the details of the role.Despina is an ironic figure, and here she acts like a child.
The way she delivers them.If I didn't know the libretto(I speak Italian too)I'd think that it's the role of a lovely nice little girl. But Despina is absolutely the opposite of it.She should have known it(she's Italian so she must understand it).
Cecilias stunning physical beauty, purity of heart and voice give this portrayal of the lovably impish Despina a wonderful touching quality; I too just love Cecilia to bits.
I love Bartoli in this role! Since she's a mezzo, she plays Despina more as a peasant (which makes perfect sense) instead of the usual chirpy soubrette interpretation, which is, of course, equally valid. But I think that Bartoli's version makes the character of Despina so much more interesting. Thanks so much!
Bartoli is evidently having bucketloads of fun with this. And those sudden high notes, which so many soprano Despinas have trouble with, sound lovely here! Simply extraordinary.
No dislikes just a simple sign that Cecilia is perfect! ;D

I think that she acts very well...
She is a 15 years maid (una donna a quindici anni) and she atcs like one, teaching the 2 mistress how to be in front of a man...
aleenush 1 year ago
@aleenush She is not necessarily fifteen years old. She is saying that even a girl of fifteen should know what to do with a man.

What is it that you find weird: the words or the way she delivers them?
(If it's the words, it's from an Italian saying!)

It's a bit of a stretch to say that she doesn't care. We can all hope to be as successful.

the subtitles could have been better though: they convey a very 'general' meaning of the piece

I lost the tail. Where are rest of the chapters, I`m charmed with this opera that I hadn´t listened yet.
