She had no name, so they nicknamed her Marvel during the war because she kicked so much ass while still being a little girl. She was "a fighting Marvel".

"Shina" is some random name they gave her in the american version instead of Marvel because they thought randomly changing shit around makes it better for the english speaking gamers, for some bizarre reason.

marvel is pretty much synonymous with marvel comics here in the states so either they had trouble registering the name(probably unlikely) or they simply thought it didn't fit the character. i personally think it's the latter but i'm not too sure myself. although i own the japanese version i played the us version first so i've always preferred shiina over marvel.
