This is a good story. But a bad movie. If i say something like "Crash" is a bad movie, some might agree and some might disagree... And that is the end of that. But if i say something like "Fireproof" is a bad movie, people will actually FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT to say that it is not... Is this something you are willing to agree on? how can you possibly make a good movie with this material? this movie is completely BAD BAD BAD!! And this comes from literature and english scholars, film critics and filmmakers, journalists, and every film industry professional. Who likes this??? The extent of the conflict is not intriguing enough for a good story and i didn't really find myself rooting for any of the characters. I actually want to find a truly religious person to give an HONEST review on this.

No they don't. Because I can name at least five movies with the same plot (one of them from 1954), and they are all very well made! Its not a bad story. It's just that in fireproof it is executed terribly! I didn't feel emotionally touched one bit and there is nothing beautiful to look at in terms of "mise en scene."

You can name five movies that you liked better than this one. People love this movie, plain and simple. Yes, the strength is definitely in the storyline, but the movie is actually well-made for such a small production company that utilizes mostly local actors from the Albany area. Kirk Cameron is actually the first professional actor they've ever brought in.

I personally am looking forward to the release of "Courageous," though I still think they should have called it "Fearless."

also... i understand that the budget was very low... people say that it is a good movie for what it was worth. i have been in the film industry for 16 years, you want me to believe that i have never heard that story before??? every year there are at LEAST five films with a low budget that end up making it! Sometimes even as low as a couple hundred bucks. This year it did not happen but what about Kathryn Bigelow who struggled to get film released? What about all the SHORT film oscar nominees?

I'm arguing that a film doesn't have to be big-budget or super fancy in order to be good. And this movie is good. It's powerful, poignant, and speaks to a lot of people, and that's what matters. Elegance in simplicity.

I'm an artist myself, and I've been told I'm very good. But I pale in comparison to Disney artists who did TLK or Princess and the Frog, let alone Michelangelo. But that doesn't mean that my work is bad, or that it fails to make the statement or impact I intended it to make.

But this "budget" thing has happened before many many times... there are even five other movies with the exact plot. So why do people like fireproof? It's cult. Kind of like Twilight, Star Trek, or Donny Darko. Those movies have a "specific" audience... I "did" say it was a bad movie, and it is. If 10 people told the same story, you would get 10 completely different movies. Alex Kendrick was challenged to tackle inspiring material for fireproof. But that material was just not executed well. There is difference between the story and how it is told. Think of it in terms of "context." Film is a VISUAL medium of representation of reality, if you watch the movie again you will see that they did not use these conventions creatively. Look it up .. :-)

Look at YouTube Gag Reel Fireproof, Alex Kendrick pretends there being Caleb's couch and Caleb is crawling like an american football player, crying in despair - I cannot make it! The Love Dare is so hard! And Alex crying give me 20 more days! 17 more days! You can do it! Keep trying!!!
