I have a question - why do the Japanese have such an interest in Alice in Wonderland?

Probably because the novels aren't as good in Japan as the quality of English made ones.

Hence why they often love some of the other ones done by the English, such as macbeth and other stuff done by Shakespear.

I for one don't know any novels that are famous around the world and are made by Japanese.

But outside of him, I don't really know any others. They are very difficult to find.

@d00dlefreak From most of the Alice vocoloid vids I saw it doesn't seem so much that it's an interest in Alice in Wonderland as it is people doing covers and themes based off of the Japanese Animation version titled "Pandora Heart" which in itself takes many themes from Alice in wonderland. Just looking at the still image of this video and you can see Len dressed up in the uniform of the main character of "Pandora Hearts".

@sukuen I understand your reasoning, but then why would they have made an anime based off of it like pandora hearts? And why did they make another anime called, "Gakuen Alice" or "Alice academy?" While it may seem like this anime isn't, their is a reference in the opening credits to the book, and they use the name alice throughout the whole series, and the filler episode of OHSHC, "Haruhi in Wonderland" I don't know why Alice in Wonderland is popular though. interesting topic this is, huh?

@ChiaRiaRei It may be just people noticing something over others. If we talk about Anime and Manga there are many other references to children stories. Such as snow white (白雪), Little red riding hood, the little mermaid, peppered in various Japanese cartoons, and comics. A trend I would point out is that the main characters are usually women. Also I think the writers have fun re-using an old tale with a new spin. I certainly enjoy seeing the Japanese take on it.
