Well, right now in Salem, Oregon, the Willamette River's up to 28.5 feet and rising. Which is handy; another foot and a half and it's good flood and wash out the whole damn town. Great.
live 50 metres from the river severn in newtown wales great britain ,this winter is pretty bleak with rain rain rain river burst its banks and just praying it dont keep risin up to my house ,thanks for the song johnny im ready for anything .ps always loved your music ,with elvis and carl you were the pioneers xxx
Compare"Five Feet High and Rising"to Tim McGraw's"I Wanna Live Where The Green Grass Grows":Johnny's song is based on a true incident in his childhood while Tim's is nothing but fantasy about being a gentleman farmer!1
Sorry Tim,but that corn ain't gonna plant and harvest itself!!
You gotta get out there and plow the field;plant the seeds;
My band, One Ukelele is doing a party in February, 2012 we are calling "Celebrate Your Inner Johnny Cash," that will include costume, and live kareoke by participants. We plan to learn / perform 12-15 Cash favorites. We might have to take it on the road after that; gonna bring down the house!
I read the news about the old mississip and I thought of this song. I dedicate this to you oh denizens of the delta. I hope you don't get too washed away where ever you are.
No pun intended, but I think this song described somewhat how people are facing the flooding of the Mississippi River. Opening the gates in Morganza, Louisiana is going to cause flooding in sparse areas, but will save New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
When I was told there would be 2 ft of water in my business today, all I could sing in my head was "two feet high and risin" --- It's gonna be the 100 year flood for us on the MS River .........
My Dad seen him here in Soo Canada, WAY back in the day, he lost a guitar pick during the concert. My dad's bragging rights, was to give him another guitar pick. Johnny probably had a hundred more, ( in the 60's? ) , but acted like he save the day. Cool story, anyway...
What album was this featured on?; I have it as 'Walking Tall: 2004' on my iPod, since that was the only thing I could think of as far as movies that might have the original version by Johnny Cash on it, which it does.
I love this song - and not just the song but the whole sound! Cash was so unique not a follower but a born leader in his field. A whole new generation here in Scotland are getting into JC too! I here the ringtones on the mobile phones blaring out Cash all the time - the mans a true legend and must have something very special to be reaching young folk today even after he's gone. Makes me very happy!
@leithboy1 i agree am from scotland and i loved him since 2003 his passing sad news when i heard what a true man music is this not the lady gaga stuff R.I.P Cash
He is very much like Johnny Cash and sings his songs, but its not like he is trying to imitate him. He's natuarlly similar to Johnny but is just being himself. Also he writes his own songs and they are good. You should check him out. He is in Branson Missouri, if you ever come by, he does shows.
Hank was playing Carnegie Hall when Strait was in little boy pants. He's not a media darling like George or Alan, but his legacy more than makes up for it. He's released more albums than both of them put together. He should have been in the Country Music Hall of Fame 15 years ago.
i bet u the kkk listons to this song!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thought about this song today. How appropriate with all the rain we've had in central IN. How high's the water? :)
