  • How high's the national debt papa? She said it's 15 trillion and risin'. Ron Paul 2012!! (and Johnny Cash forever).

  • Well, right now in Salem, Oregon, the Willamette River's up to 28.5 feet and rising. Which is handy; another foot and a half and it's good flood and wash out the whole damn town. Great.

  • live 50 metres from the river severn in newtown wales great britain ,this winter is pretty bleak with rain rain rain river burst its banks and just praying it dont keep risin up to my house ,thanks for the song johnny im ready for anything .ps always loved your music ,with elvis and carl you were the pioneers xxx

  • Compare"Five Feet High and Rising"to Tim McGraw's"I Wanna Live Where The Green Grass Grows":Johnny's song is based on a true incident in his childhood while Tim's is nothing but fantasy about being a gentleman farmer!1

Sorry Tim,but that corn ain't gonna plant and harvest itself!!

    You gotta get out there and plow the field;plant the seeds;

then hope a drought or flood don't get ya!!

  • His family farm was actually flooded, which is what this song is based on.

  • how highs the water mama? TO DAM HIGH

  • So sad that this magic man is gone. So so sad.

  • My band, One Ukelele is doing a party in February, 2012 we are calling "Celebrate Your Inner Johnny Cash," that will include costume, and live kareoke by participants. We plan to learn / perform 12-15 Cash favorites. We might have to take it on the road after that; gonna bring down the house!

  • Not just a musician, but a poet

  • Citys of minot burlington sawyer logan and velva. North Dakota flood 2011

  • City of minot flood 2011

  • A giant of man.

  • 1 person will never swim again!

  • i heard this song on WALKING TALL, and it led me here(:

  • Papa is repeating what mama is saying, which is why it is SHE said...

  • I read the news about the old mississip and I thought of this song. I dedicate this to you oh denizens of the delta. I hope you don't get too washed away where ever you are.

  • Looks like the 500 year flood is back along the Mississippi

  • No pun intended, but I think this song described somewhat how people are facing the flooding of the Mississippi River. Opening the gates in Morganza, Louisiana is going to cause flooding in sparse areas, but will save New Orleans and Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

  • fuck modern music , Johnny Cash forever

  • This is a good song for our problems for vicksburg, miss, floods.

  • When I was told there would be 2 ft of water in my business today, all I could sing in my head was "two feet high and risin" --- It's gonna be the 100 year flood for us on the MS River .........

  • We getting washed out in west TN. Prayers appreciated

  • Thought about this song today. How appropriate with all the rain we've had in central IN.

  • sounds like they are in shit creek

  • D.A.I.S.Y.

  • Nashville was 5ft hight and rising thanks to that damn flood haha

  • I knew about this coz of the movie Walking Tall. :D

  • My Dad seen him here in Soo Canada, WAY back in the day, he lost a guitar pick during the concert. My dad's bragging rights, was to give him another guitar pick. Johnny probably had a hundred more, ( in the 60's? ) , but acted like he save the day. Cool story, anyway...

  • I wish JC were here today to kick these modern musicians in the fuckin ass

  • @jakerobida08 Jesus Christ?

  • @mostmetalrules789 sort of...

  • What album was this featured on?; I have it as 'Walking Tall: 2004' on my iPod, since that was the only thing I could think of as far as movies that might have the original version by Johnny Cash on it, which it does.

  • @tthomaselli2

It was featured on "Songs of Our Soil"

  • @vaccumenhancer439

    Thanks.

  • johnny cash is a bad ass

  • this song is popular in nashville today.

  • great song by a true legend!

  • thank you mr hammond you got all the boys in our class singin it and its stukin my head and its awsomm bblad

  • I love this song - and not just the song but the whole sound! Cash was so unique not a follower but a born leader in his field. A whole new generation here in Scotland are getting into JC too! I here the ringtones on the mobile phones blaring out Cash all the time - the mans a true legend and must have something very special to be reaching young folk today even after he's gone. Makes me very happy!

  • thanks for your lovely comment!

  • @leithboy1 true lyrics never dies :)

  • @leithboy1 i agree am from scotland and i loved him since 2003 his passing sad news when i heard what a true man music is this not the lady gaga stuff R.I.P Cash

  • i love johnny cash i got it of darren

  • i love him to death

  • boy we wont ever find a nother johnny but hank jr sure is raising a fuss to be loved like george strait

  • HAve you heard his nephew Jackson Cash?

He is very much like Johnny Cash and sings his songs, but its not like he is trying to imitate him. He's natuarlly similar to Johnny but is just being himself. Also he writes his own songs and they are good. You should check him out. He is in Branson Missouri, if you ever come by, he does shows.

  • Hank was playing Carnegie Hall when Strait was in little boy pants. He's not a media darling like George or Alan, but his legacy more than makes up for it. He's released more albums than both of them put together. He should have been in the Country Music Hall of Fame 15 years ago.

  • "WALKING TALL"

  • 'How high's the water papa, SHE said it's two feet high and rising.'

  • Comment removed

  • @Dodo251 yeah, his father is restating that his mother had already told him..

  • @camdensmith555 Oh right, right. Thanks.

  • @Dodo251

Your computer was easy to hack. Damn you have all kinds of shit on here.

  • @Dodo251 thats because dad got the information about the water height from mom.

  • @Dodo251

It's the papa that's saying "she," as he's just repeating what the mama said.

  • @Dodo251 He's saying the whole thing , basically repeating what mama said...

  • @Dylanmak100 Thanks.

  • @Dodo251 The reason for this is that Johnny cashs dad refused to talk to johnny

  • @Dodo251 Listen to it again. He said "he" at two feet; he said "she" at three feet. You made a mistake too. Can happen to anyone.

  • @Dodo251 the dad said SHE said its two feet high and rising

  • @Dodo251 The "papa" is referring to what "mama" just said...

  • tt;'s also the theme song here on the Minnesota side of the Red River. The river rose 5 ft. yesterday.

  • That's the theme song here in Fargo, ND

  • AWESOME

  • good gear
