peltier..jiu jitsu doesnt suck but royce gracie was way over-rated..He had no competition when ufc first started. Noone trained properly for ground attacks. Royce gracie at his best wont beat an average fighter in the ufc right now. Thats why he got pounded by matt hughes, he wasnt anywhere near in his league.
i dont know about all that, i agree that Jiu Jitsu, not necessarily Gracie Jiu Jitsu, will always be needed. But the definition of MMA does not for definite include Jiu Jitsu. As long as you are mixing martial arts, its MMA.
I agree with peltiers first point and all of alex's

Also true, but things change. They may have helped it get to where it is today, but that's a good deal different than saying their fighting style makes MMA what MMA is today.
He's old. He's tired. He wasn't ready for it, he's past his prime. The greatest people from all professions all across history come across the same thing, everyone burns out. Matt Hughes is a very good fighter. It doesn't mean Gracie "sucks", for Christs' sake.
A lot of u guys are probably about 20 years old and have zero experience with grappling from the comments I'm reading. Get rid of the stupid modern day UFC rules and grapplers will destroy all these shitty hybrids and stand up fighters with ease.
I agree with you. The U.F.C. has a lot of rules, to benefice the stand up fighting, so they can have more tv rating. Without that rules, the grapplers win over the strikes in 90 of 100 fights.
A lot of u guys are idiots when it comes to grappling. This new joke of UFC is just that...a joke. Fighting becoming evolved? Do any of you idiots know the history of Jujutsu and stand up fighting arts?? Take the dumb rules out of UFC and grapplers will win hands down. You don't need stupid stand up fighting skills to win a real fight. UFC is a joke and its geared towards making money which people enjoy the blood, which comes from stand up fighting.
It came as no surprise, since Hughes has so much more skill, knowledge and real experience with over 40 legitimate MMA fights, not family orchestrated tournements. Hughes fought at the highest level, not seeking 50 year old boxers.
This fight and the fight where Dan Henderson totally beat the crap out of Renzo Gracie are classics.
Watching Gracie trying to take on Hughes is like watching the Harlem Globetrotters trying to take on the Boston Celtics.
how can anyone say royce gracie sucks if it werent for the gracies their never would be any mma. i hate when people talk about legends saying what they would never say to their face.
Royce lost to Matt Hughes in a way I did not think was possible...I have much respect for Hughes but Royce gracie will always be my favorite fighter. When people say he sucks...it is like people saying jordan sucked when he played for the Wizards. Of course he didn't suck...he just wasn't as good as he once was...as good as people wanted him to be...I think it uis the exact same for Royce. He may have lost to Hughes but anyone who could actually beat him has enough respect not to talk trash..
@superman36369 sht id tell royce to his face that he fucken sucks and that his ju jitsu only works so dam good with folks who dont know it. tell me it anit true!!!!!!!!
This video if of Matt Hughes training at Pat Miletich's gym in Iowa. The guy Matt was doing kickboxing sparring with was none other than Pat Miletich himself. Matt has a great group of guys there, that video was taken during the pro fighter training session, its not as if Matt was training with weekend warriors or amateur toughman competitors. Guys like Jens Pulver, Tim Sylvia, Tony Fryklund and Spencer Fisher train there for their fights.
yeah, but that's something mma people havent' figured out yet. It's why i wouldn't take part in classes. It's money for the gym but not necessarily good for the individual, who may need more or less of one thing or another.
They do have private instructions for anyone willing to pay. Matt does personally train with pat when the rest of us are grappling, they are usually in the middle tappin pads.
its better to train with a variety of fighters.if you only train against a single fighter... you develop bad habits that work with that particular fighter but will get you knocked out against another.
Matt hughes does both actually. The reason for the class thing is, they do drills where it's one on one and the winner stays on, and so everytime matt submits a training partner, a fresh on jumps in, and 10 of them are lined up like that.
shouldnt Matt have a "personal" trainer?? instead of just training in a "class" with 10 other guys who might not at his level?? I train in a class with 10 other guys..but I am not a UFC champ!

Actually alot of these guys OWN the gym. Another thing is they are part of a fight team...so they eat sleep and train with each other.
