Just found this vid, so my response is a bit late.
I don't think anyone will ever be able to make birth control illegal for very long at all. Too many people use birth control, and if it actually happened I would predict almost immediate repeal. Or riots in the streets everywhere.
I like my CHOICE in both prevention AND abortion. (there are too many single moms out there, too many parentless children in the world) PRO CHOICE is what I am!!!
Because I'm on Mirena (birth control) I'm a murder. I'm 19 year old, just graduated from high school. I want my future kids to have the best and not live in a shit hole. Sorry, extreme pro-life assholes, for wanting my kids the best future and my well being.
@BrownieOverdose (smacks head with realization) I forgot, logic doesn't work on these people. I mean abortion is one thing, but gametes are made to be replaceable, that's why they come in billions/monthly.
"shall include any human being from the moment of *fertilization* or the functional equivalent thereof."
Because of the wording and the law not regarding sperm or eggs as "life" a man isn't legally bound to use a condom, but the woman would be committing a crime? nice ....
Good god those two make me sick. Maybe some of it is actually the stuff they're bitching about, but honestly? The goal of pro-lifers is to subordinate women again? Bullshit. You're going to need to provide quite a bit more evidence to advance that claim.
@esplin227 I guess that depends on what you're talking about. However I will throw this quote at you: "Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by idiocy"
@esplin227 Once again, I think it is much more likely that these "ring leaders" believe exactly what they say they believe. I'm not religious anymore, but if I was I would probably be pro-life; the argument being that if god saw fit to create a new child to bring into the world, who are we to stop that? Also, consider that Sarah Palin said that she thinks rape victims shouldn't abort their babies, but it isn't very likely that she supports the oppression of women.
I'm not pro-rape in any way, but I get an overwhelming urge to say that these people who peddle this kind of extremely vile bullshit needs to get raped, the whole lot of them. They're clearly unaware, on every level, of the emotional turbulence of bearing a child which isn't planned, not to mention one that is forced onto them, as a constant reminder of a crime they were the victim of. Being a man, I can only speak from what I've heard, but that is convincing enough to say this with certainty.
A 3 to 1 margin. Far from presenting people as being disgusted with it, IMO, this presents about 25% of the people who voted being in favour of the government getting into your bedroom.
Not that I'm in favor of this bill by any means, but doesn't the pill prevent ovulation? If there's no ovulation, there's no fertilization thus no crime in using the pill regardless of this bill.
@PJsCreed nvm, I found it. I'm in the middle of debating someone on this and just kept running into Christian pro-life websites when looking for an adequate response.
@PJsCreed Certain types of birth control also prevent implantation in case an egg is fertilized. If personhood is given upon fertilization of an egg, then not only would the death rate shoot up (most fertilized eggs are washed out of the vagina rather than implanting) radically and manslaughter become a much more common crime, but the most common forms of birth control would be murder. Which is the main reason why this is incredibly idiotic.
@PJsCreed >> According to some religions (like Catholicism) believe stopping ovulation IS a form of murder because it keeps an egg from achieving "personhood".
@PJsCreed >> According to some religions (like Catholicism) believe stopping ovulation IS a form of murder because it keeps an egg from achieving personhood.
Next make it mandatory for a woman to get married (to a guy) before the age of 35. Then slowly work the age back to the age of 13 over a span of 20 years.
On the topic of Alabama SB 301 (defining personhood), the vote has been carried over to today, so we'll see how this goes. The Alabama ACLU is poised to act if it goes into law. Among other reasons why this bill is bad, our state can't afford this legal battle that the pro-lifers are trying to shove us into just to challenge Roe v Wade, and these reasons are being pointed out in the House by Dems.
@phenixwryter Hey Div-just a quick update. AL SB 301 did not pass in the House. Probably in part because the House had its own bill up for a vote, which would have been negated by SB 301. House bill 18 bans anyone from performing an abortion unless its needed to avoid the woman's death or serious risk of substantial bodily harm. It will become law when signed by Gov Bentley and will take effect on Sept 1st.
@Bluebelle9289 BTW, I agree that the pro-"life" crowd is full of stupid morons. Hell, it would be easy for me to say, 'if I were a woman and got pregnant, I would never get an abortion'; but, to be fair, and like I sorta said before, I dont really understand the psychology of a woman's mind when she's going thru pregnancy. And while both pregnancy and abortion have their risks, I say let the woman who is pregnant decide for herself what suits her in her situation.
under this law i can clam at leest 10 million person's as dependents on my taxes every day!!! but then my body also absorbs about 10 million person's a day gess im a murder now :( :(
Okay, here's what needs to be done....we need to pick one state. Throw all these right wing nut jobs in it, and let them screw themselves three times over with their fumb duck policies. And when most of them die off because only the ultra rich in that state can afford to by food due to over population, then maybe we can better deal with the few lunatics that are left which still haven't found reason.
@BrownieOverdose Birth Control deals with unfertilized gametes. So any woman who has had more than one period is a serial killer, and any man who has had a wet dream has committed genocide. And what about the billions of sperm that don't make it, even when fertilization is successful? Or the ejaculations wasted in trying to get pregnant. Or if you have sex while pregnant.
@BrownieOverdose You could always come up here to Canada. Mind we have our own conservatives pushing for regression, but it doesn't seem to be anywhere near as bad is in the USA.
As someone who once took the pro-life position, back then i was okay with birth control as long as it wasn't abortive. I currently take the pro-CHOICE view, which, as we all should know, should NOT be confused with Pro-Abortion. I don't agree with abortion unless it's needed for health reasons, but, currently, I wish zero association with most pro-lifers due to their lack of logic and what not. The pro-choice position, to me, has become the most sensible position to take on these issues.
Health reasons meaning a life-threatening pregnancy or health reasons which would also include the mental distress a woman can endure if she is forced to birth her rapists' spawn? How about the mental distress and physical health issues a woman who got pregnant via BC malfunction can also endure? Even a normal pregnancy is risky.
@Bluebelle9289 I was thinking more along the lines of physical health, like life-risk, but ultimately I think it's up to the woman to make the right choice for her, I personally dont agree with getting an abortion just for the hell of it (whether or not such a case is rare or common, I dont know). A psychological issue would be one where I would be understanding of the abortion, but I wouldnt agree completely with getting an abortion, particularly if it were me if I was able to be pregnant.
"I personally dont agree with getting an abortion just for the hell of it"
Define "getting an abortion for the hell of it." Better yet, how many women do you know or know of who get abortions for the "hell of it"? How many women have you heard of who get abortions for the "hell of it"?
@Bluebelle9289 To be fair, I dont know. In parantheses, I had said, "whether or not such a case is rare or common, I dont know". And by "hell of it" I meant if a woman was like "hahahaha... I'm gonna kill this fetus piece of shit solely cuz it's my right to do so!" And it's likely no woman does that and such assumption would be based on nothing more than ad hom. influenced by pro-life BS. I just dont agree with one getting an abortion without a good reason.
@Bluebelle9289 It used to seem so easy to answer and address this things regarding abortion, now(or a time before now in the very-close past) I realize it's complicated. If it's just terminating pregnancy, maybe I shouldn't worry, I'm just probably still psychologically effected by images of bloody fetuses, who knows. I used to wonder if they could abort the fetus without killing it, but someone brought up overpopulation and that's something to think about too.
@Bluebelle9289 To add more to what I'm saying, this issue is one I have come to acknowledge as quite complicated and that's why I think it's up to the woman, how would I react if it was the woman I had sex with, and I promise it would be consensual if I ever have sex and NEVER rape, I'm not sure. And, while it would be easy to spout prolifer horse-shit like 'keep your legs closed' or 'punish the rapist, not the baby'; doing so would be silly as I dont understand the mind of a pregnant woman.
Once again, the self satisfying, false moralist waving christian flags (this time) feel emboldened enough to turn the clock back to the dark ages and unless religion itself is diminished in this country , this cycle of anti-women initiatives will continue. The idea that men and women are equal and a fetus is not a person will be considered extreme until progressives achieve a loud, united critical mass. Until then, their will be many legislative near misses and knock-out hits at our expense.
So that means that I can get life insurance for my wife's fetus and if she has a miscarriage (no matter how early in the term, even if the egg doesn't embed itself in the uterus) then I can make a claim on that fertilized egg? It's payday! Every month!
I live in Alabama and the politicians here are controlled from the pulpits. This is not a political issue, this is the Religious Reich and American Taliban working to take control of the country. Unless these religionists are stopped, it would not be surprising to find America as a third world country in the next generation. It's heading in that direction with the south leading the way.
they want woman to be submissive to men that is really what its about they dont want woman to have control over there own bodies woman should be really really angry about all this woman will one day wake up and realize that there bodies are not there own so sad and sick and its all thanks to the bible and the right dumb assas
Wow, I don't know what nasty stuff the Pro-lifers and the GOP are smokin but apparently this Terry O'Neill chick got her hands on some too. I haven't heard someone so totally misrepresent another groups position and motivations since watching a Tea Party Birth-er talk about Islam. Talk about fighting fire with fire, the ignorant and self-righteous vs. the ignorant and self-righteous no matter who wins you still end up with a pile of BS.
It's funny how the states who seem to dislike the Muslims the most seem to follow their way of life the closest. "Yay guns for no reason, and fuck women." Seriously open your fucking eyes you Redneck fools (FYI this does not cover all who live in said states, merely the people who are trying to control women outside of their consent)
Hey, I say go for it! Make a zygote a person... And issue it a Social Security Number... And a pre-Birth certificate... And watch as I laugh when your state's official death rate sky rocket because of natural abortions. Imagine all the happy parents not only having to hear they won't have a child, but also getting a death certificate.
Seriously, WTF? The US condoned their illegal wars to "stamp out Islam" and to "give women freedom", yet they are treating their own as fucking brood mares? Hate to break it to you fundie fucktards: YWHW is not better than Allah.
@YeOldeHeretic Yup, next thing you know they'll change the 'No religious test' clause to say 'Anyone running for office must receive a biblical suppository prior to their campaign, or will be barred from pursuing office.' I'd love to see Glenn Beck's imagined Islamo-Communist caliphate come here, because maybe then they'll know how everyone else feels.
“When fascism comes to America, it will come wrapped in the flag and waving a cross” HAIL JEBUS! HAIL JEBUS!screw sharia, its the creeping Dominionism that scares me.
I highly doubt anyone in the their right mind would allow birth control to become illegal. First off, it's a massive industry. Second, pretty much every Christian I know, married or unmarried, uses birth control. This fringe group is about as fringe as it gets.
@Osias1983 Sadly, often things are passed that only a fringe group wants because people dont pay attention to their local politics anymore than they do national.
Now the large groups you talk about can possibly get it overturned, or the court might, but dont trust them to pay attention til it has a direct impact on them, aka, they cant get the prescription from their doctor and then the doctor tells them about the new law.
according to them every month a woman every gets her period then she's a murderer and every time a guy masturbates he committed murder millions of times. wtf is wrong with these "the pill kills" nuts
They're being unreasonable in order to get what they want, typical boardroom politics, they'll get a great big fuck off from everyone soon. They're so desperate, that economically they're preaching about Ayn Rand, an outspoken atheist who embraced free market to the extreme.
Now the real agenda comes out. We are in the middle of an all out war against the Amerikkkan Taliban, the Repuglithug Party and their minions the Tea fartists. We have begun to see, if the path does not change, the beginning of the end of the US as we know it. No longer a nation held together by common beliefs, we will splinter into a balkanized and separate mini-nations each with their own agenda on how life is to be lived and the reason for life. You can bet your booty that we are done for.

I highly doubt anyone in the their right mind would allow birth control to become illegal. First off, it's a massive industry. Second, pretty much every Christian I know, married or unmarried, uses birth control. This fringe group is about as fringe as it gets.
Osias1983 8 months ago
@Osias1983 Sadly, often things are passed that only a fringe group wants because people dont pay attention to their local politics anymore than they do national.
Now the large groups you talk about can possibly get it overturned, or the court might, but dont trust them to pay attention til it has a direct impact on them, aka, they cant get the prescription from their doctor and then the doctor tells them about the new law.

I'm just glad I live in Canada. The U.S. just seems to be one big time machine, inching its way to the Dark Ages.

The GOP is collectively losing their minds.
