Well, the reason people think Naruto and Sasuke make a good couple is because they have a very strong bond. They may be rivals, but that doesn't mean that they aren't important to each other. Like TheCatnippedKitty said, the entire show (in Japan) right now is based on how much Naruto wants Sasuke back.

Even if you do only watch the Toonami episodes (I watch both the eng dub and the Japanese version), it's impossible to say that Naruto and Sasuke hate each other. It's been said countless times in the show by Naru-chan and Sasuke themselves that they are friends. I could go on and on about how great they are for each other. Honestly.
