Keep in mind only western minded cultures categorize anime as cartoons and meant only for children as opposed to the japanese that have taken this idea of story telling as an artform and to new heights. Reinventing and seperating itself from what western society understands what a cartoon is.
Often, people disregard things like anime because they have such low expectations for it. Anyone I played this song for would think it was beautiful, yet things like Air get classified as "cartoons" to most people. It's sad on the things people miss out on because of preconceptions.
Don't care what anyone says Air's music is just one of the best composed pieces of music ever written. (along with Beethoven and Bach and Motzart and the rest.)
