Why is there so much confusion about the talmud. I mean how many ways can it be interpreted? I dont believe there is this much confusion with any other religion. Yes, you can just read an Artscroll edition of any Tractate of the Talmud that you like. It explains everything very well. It's a long read but completely worth it.

I do agree that it's good to have a translation from Hebrew and Aramaic by a scholar who also understands the nuance of the language. The Torah says to stone a rebellious son to death at the city gates, however, the sages explained that this never occurred...possibly stated as such for emphasis. You all seemed to have missed the point of this portion of the Talmud. The phrase: "It is nothing" doesnt mean its permitted. The tractate deals with Ketubboth -marriage contracts.The point is that a child who has been raped shouldnt suffer any more by being stigmatised and deemed worthless when it came to her marriage contract. "It is nothing" merely means it has no effect on her marriage contract, which is what the entire portion is about. (contd)

This is nothing new, sir. Sadly, MANY Western civilizations, as well as Middle Eastern ones, have tolerated pedophilia and sexual child abuse as the norm. And some continue to do so, especially with child brides. Jews, Muslims, etc. have done it. Hell, the age of consent here in the U.S. wasn't raised to 16 until the late 19th Century, if I recall. It WAS legal to marry a young girl as well.

But, I don't hate muslims in general - I hate islam and islamists. But, I don't do that because use of the absurd Jew scriptures - just because islam represents the antithesis of my values and islamists threatens them with harm and destruction. I would be most happy to hear & see no more about islam in Europe.

I see a problem here. Those that see negative connotations in the statements in the text of the Talmud are taking it out of context. Not only that but are interpreting it the wrong way. Case in point. To paraphrase: "To little girls who are violated before menstruation it is like a finger in the eye. They will recover". The text does not say it is ok to abuse children. You will not find any Jew or Rabbi that will say it is ok. In fact it is a sin.
What I see here is antisemitism at its worst.

Yes, you can just read an Artscroll edition of any Tractate of the Talmud that you like. It explains everything very well. It's a long read but completely worth it.
