@PinkProgram They are human. But when you imply a theory for which is not viable, you're actually saying "You know, all these physicists are really smart, but they've got it ALL wrong, here is how to do it". That's what people are essentially saying.
@PinkProgram Lame =( my grammar which is terrible, has nothing 2 do with my opinion here. And clearly, it's ok if u don't understand my message, not everybody is perfect =).Let me try this: All types of knowledge are base on memory, logic, common sense, and of course, imagination. And by default, we all have a certain % margin of error, in which btw, is what makes us unique in different ways, and if u ad up differences of opinion & points of view, then u got huge GATDAM STEW! over & out!
@1alopezpr neither of your statements follow logically... you're just randomly spouting words that are out of context. What does a mental stew have to do with multiverses?
@sinzaik Why 10^500 universes? That's an excellent question. Since it was a physicist and not me who came up with the number, are you asking me to defend the math they used to arrive at that number? Sorry, I can't do that. Before I saw 10^500 as the proposed number I myself was in the habit of saying that the number of possible universes approached infinity. Either way, we're talking about a VERY big number here!
@10thdim I'd say that comes from the number of possible ways that strings can vibrate according to their mathematics. The number of configurations possible that number.
You said you agreed with Michio Kaku that sometimes a picture is better than the math. I think there is a difference between "a VERY big number here!" and "infinite number of universes"
I would really like to know the answer to this question. How could there be a finite amount? Why can't you draw another dot after the tenth dimension? Before, you say there is the infinite universe, then to create the next dimension you draw a dot for the infinite-infinite universe. Why does it end?
i myself am against the multiverse idea, but if it did, what makes you think that multiple universes only exist in alternate dimensions for realities? let's say the big bang was real. what makes us think a mass amount of matter only gathered in one place and exploded in the whole vastness of space? there could've been an infinite amount of big bangs all over space. they would just be so far apart, you can notice them no matter how powerful a telescope is developed.
Could one make the argument that the theory of the Multiverse/10 dimensions proves that a God and a Satan (and all other religous equivalents) exist?
The multiverse is science fiction and is created by rogue theoretical physicists who can not accept that their human mind is limited. If multiverse is reality then it means everything possible is realized. This means that every criminal act committed was made to happen because everything possible has to happen. How can you punish a criminal for something that random acting subatomic particles making up the neurons in his brain made him do? This theory rejects souls, love, and common sense.
I would hardly call Brian Greene a "rogue physicist", he's about as mainstream as it gets. But you're right, there are a lot of philosophical/spiritual questions that should be considered, and which I do talk about in other blogs. Suffering in the Multiverse is one of the most in-depth discussions:
watch?v=38seBd3ptm8
Recognizing that the potential for bad choices to be made in this multiverse of all possible outcomes is no different from recognizing that sin exists. We still have to choose!
Wait... I've listened to you make some pretty outrageous claims based on many assumptions, but when you tell me that "sin exists"... I rescind my subscription.
but does free will truly exist?..we can feel like we're freely choosing as we cycle through all possible actions for a situation, but are we really choosing anything freely when we finally do come to that decision, or are we initially succumbing to chemical reactions which result in the illusion of having made a free choice?..basically, do WE make the choice, or are chemicals making the choice?
How can you punish a criminal for something that random acting subatomic particles making up the neurons in his brain made him do? The act of making someone do would not exist if our understanding of the universe were that of the multiverse, In our present understanding the question is not how, but in what universe would forensics unweave subatomic weave
@bachandl its ridiculous of you to insert some intangible sense of morality into your offensive against the multiverse theory. people commiting crimes and 'everything possible happening' is besides point, but yeah it would probably mean everythings happening somewhere.because that makes you uncomfortable doesnt mean its a fantasy...when hitler led germans to rape and kill jewish people, there were children attacked too.not a pretty reality, but it doesnt 'cease to exist' because you dont like it.
@bachandl Are we punishing him or protecting ourselves from the rest of his wave function which has high probablity in the area of repeat offence. If everything possible has to happen, then we may just "have" to punish this dirty doer!
@bachandl "How can you punish a criminal for something that random acting subatomic particles making up the neurons in his brain made him do?"
Because that criminal *is* that collection of particles? Because what's important is that a criminal act has taken place and that we define certain acts as criminal specifically because we have promised to punish such acts when they occur to assign a cost to undesirable behavior?
@bachandl "This theory rejects souls, love, and common sense."
I don't think the multiverse rejects souls, but souls should be rejected on pure empirical grounds anyway from our understanding of human brains, regardless of this theory being true or false. Love and common sense are also empirical facts about humans and they're real regardless of the ultimate nature of reality. In fact, they're real regardless of how they are implemented. All that matters is that I feel love.
@Gnomefro ..that's not the defintion of "empirical". Love is a qualia, and rationally provable thus, but it is not 'empirical' let alone an 'empirical fact'.
For there to be a "right" interpretation there would need to be an objective interpreter. You cannot interpret something the "right" way... only your way. Nobody is "wrong" or "right" in this case and what sz says can be completely true or false. Who are you to judge? Your interpretations can be false. As long as opposing viewpoints exist we will live in a world of uncertainty because we're all limited to a single point of view of the grand picture.
bubbles of space time forming in the existence of the higher dimensions. why are there dimensions in the first place? what is the reason for the possibilities to even exist?
Yeah, we would not be able to exist in any dimension higher than 3/4. I don't mean so much exist so much as I mean we wouldn' survive if we were exposed to the possibilities.
We couldn't see because all of the light of all the past/future would blind us.
