The family's just shy and doesn't really understand what's going on. Not much English and they are a little embarrassed, as someone has already commented. Bourdain's producers could have done some minimal research and easily learned that just barging into these folks' home would be awkward.
Would have been much better, for example, to attend a birthday party held at a local restaurant, with videoke, lots of food and beer, and much less awkwardness. I'm Kano, btw.
i agree with augusto, most filipino kids dont know how to speak their own language compared to other asian kids. Why are filipinos so white washed??? freaking coconuts lol
give credit to augusto having able to invite bourdain to the philippines because we have noticed that for a long time and we thought that he really skips the philippines and have np plans of going their.Zimmern was so nice to cover the country way before bourdain.
this certain family doesn't really know augusto too well. he grew up in the US, he's probably only met them once. and most filipinos i know always hated on foreigners anyway. my point is, it is always hard for a filipino to go back to their roots especially when the roots dont welcome you back!
its their shyness not they hate foreigners..i wonder where you got this idea?....its probobbly that they are ashamed that they dont speak english that well(most common reason)...its all wrong who ever told you this....we treat our relatives(who lives abroad)very much special...they would even borrow money(utang) to buy food for their balikbayans(food that is expensive and only serve in special occasions)...
ooo i really liked this... ive alwasy been a big fan and its good to see that its going forward in a good direction. hopefully there will be more postive resutls.
Sure, he wasn't a typical jolly, outgoing Filipino host but you have to remember he's a Fil-Am and no matter how hard he's trying to relate to Filipinos, he really can't...
I don't mind Agosto's part of the video because it deals with Fil-Am identity which many Filipinos deal with when they are born or grow up in America.
There's always a philosophical part of No Reservations like the Brazil episode where they talk about the drug cartel.
I can't stand the look of his family, so aloof and cold- no smiles, just busy eating. That's not the filipino I know. But I feel sorry for the kid Augusto. Maybe the stuck up family don't want him there. Watch the look on everyone's face. Even Augusto looked uncomfortable--disgusting.
or maybe augusto is not that close to thier relatives(should send them package every x mas hehehe)...maybe they are just shy,its typical with the locals, its common that if you cant speak speak english that well they just prefer to just listen and keep quiet...
look kissfm dude, there's no point in cussing him out. it's not his fault that he was born in the US. and why should he be ashamed? coz he wanted to reconnect to his roots? you made unnecessary comments about his personality.
