Lol, lip-syncing. Could have been anyone up there mimg to a record. It's a truly classic song but lip-syncing just isn't live music. So why bother with all the crowd and fakeness, may as well just show the official music video.
@loveunderlaw Yes but where's the entertainment in watching someone mime? You would have to be pretty intellectually inferior to call that entertainment. It's just a con. Real singers can sing, that's why they're called singers. If it's a music video with a story and such or a recording for a release such as an album then yes do all the mixing you can to get a good song. But ToTP is meant to show the real singer singing the song, to watch them mining is just laughable these days.
@leatwix Like I said, post a video of yourself either lip syncing, or actually singing. Then instead of being some random hater, you can showcase any actual "talents" you may have, or not have so people can critique your performance.
@leatwix ToTP always used lip syncing, it's more to do with the T.V production, it saves a lot of time, money and mistakes. After all it was just a showcase of popular tunes, not leading live performances.
this is definitely one of my fav songs. How does he manage to jump and shake his shoulders at the same time (0:56-1:01)? That part always cracks me up
This was produced by Richard James Burgess, from Landscape "Einstein a go-go" fame. He invented the Simmons SDS-V electronic drum kit, the one with the funky hexagonal pads....
@3dcandy Well actually Burgess did one of the mixes but the better versions were done by NY producers. Burgess was just trying to get in on the gravy train, had nothing to do with this guy until this record and the mix was nothing special compared to others on the same 12"
No they had nothing to do with this NYC production of Colonel, but they do admit that they visited NYC from London, he was hot and it influenced their production of Rick Astley. I don't have any problem with SAW, theirs was a smooth glossy pop facsimilie of this intended to reach a wider audience, whcih it did. IF YOU'RE GOING TO BLAME THEM FOR COPYING COLONEL ABRAMS, ALSO BLAME CHICAGO, THEY GOT THEIR HOUSE MUSIC SOUND FROM COLONEL AND OTHERS IN NYC, EARLY-MID 80S.
S.A.W were a disgusting disease on the body of pop music in the 80's. They couldn't write a pop song as catchy, infectious and memorable as this, if their worthless bland, manufactured trashy little lives depended on it.
@stumpynadge Disease LOL that's ridiculous. They openly admit they copied his sound after visits to NYC but at least some of their records were good whereas most of the first house records were direct copies of the Colonel and they neither admitted to plagiarism nor were they quality tracks-most of the world has no idea that the chicago "house" thing started as copies of this NYC sound that was all over chi record stores and club/radio mixes there.
Stock Aitken Waterman did pretty much copy this sound. Were they behind the production of this? If they weren't then it was a bit rich of them getting annoyed at Marrs using a sound from Roadblock on Pump Up The Volume in 1987.

Even though I love "Never Gonna Give You Up" , Rick Astley and the crew totally ripped off this song and its bassline.
