@TheSupnickmon Alright, so I'll go adjust his bridge and fuck with the intonation and you can say that again. My musical experience is only just developing, but seeing as I don't have perfect pitch and there's no harmony, it sounds just fine to me. Don't be such a ridiculous cunt.
Do you really have to use the 3 finger technique to play this song? At first I thought it wasn't necessary, but then I saw MarloweDK (btw, MDK kicks ass!) play the song using three fingers, which got me confused... Sorry if it's a stupid question...
If you're talking about your right hand: You don't have to, but it's more comfortable if you can. You can technically use one finger if that one finger is fast enough.

My bass teacher is really good and by saying that I mean insane. He has got an academic education and had a lot of lessons from bass celebrities. His fav. bassist is Jaco and he plays ALL his songs with 2 finger only and that is ALL Jaco's songs - so not necessary :)
"Is that guy trying to show off?" - no, I'm just making my point clear cause my teacher would know if you had to use 3 fingers :p Using 3 fingers when you have to play fast is not a good habit, you can do it with 2 easily aswell.
I didn't compare Jaco himself, i compared the 2 finger and and the 3 finger technique. The 3 finger technique is good but never say "I can't play this part because I can't do the 3 finger technique" because the 3 fingers technique is a support not a must.
You can do 2 fingers at all songs almost, you will have problems at Heavy and Death Metal - but you should use your 3rd finger for muting if you want to use it. I mute my strings very well, but I don't really know how I do it :p But the 3rd finger is not neccessary for playing fast. That is my opinion :)
@SalvationHasCome You're teacher may have an academic education and lessons from bass celebrities, but Geddy Lee, Les Claypool and Steve Bailey ARE bass celebrities. Playing with 3 fingers is not wrong, if it works for you. Just cos you can't do it with 2 fingers and you need an extra finger to help you doesn't make it a bad habit.
I agree, he locked the groove down nice and tight. PLus he got the tone just right. Last video I saw of someone playing this song he had his sound much too "crisp".
Magnifique!!!!

you play with as many finger as you want,
it really doesn't matter.
otherwise guys like Geddy Lee or Bernards Edwards would not be good bass players (according to you teacher's theory)
this video is cool congrats to the player

Agree. I play with one, two, or three. It's all about being able to do it all.

well, to be honest
I like to think that there're no rights and wrongs
on that matter, as long as the player sounds good...
it's ok for me if the play with his nails, thumb ,
pink finger :) :)
may I suggest you a video?
Watch John Entwistle's Bass Guitar Master Class.
Keep playing :) :)
Peace
BrFunkyBass 2 years ago
True true, there is no right and wrong way to play AS LONG AS IT WORKS :)
And you can do the same thing with 2 fingers instead of 3 and use the third finger to something else so you have an extra finger to help :)
SalvationHasCome 2 years ago
Jaco used 3 fingers quite often. I'm not sure where you learned playing with 3 fingers is a bad habit.

C'est bon!
Quand je l'a joue ça sonne vraiment different, mes cordes sont très vieilles puis il frotte sur mon manche, surment que mon "bridge" est trop bas.
Unicesf 4 years ago
ça ce joue sur une fretté c'est mieux je trouve.
Jaco l'avait enregistré sur sa jazz bass fretté 1960. un voisin vendéen.......
