i dont think any one really likes Syd's as much as there Gilmore era stuff i just think there trying to make them selves sound cool and unique to the Pink Floyd community

@mrbear41208 dude my dad introduced this to me when i was very young as well and i listened to it about every night for the longest time it had me hooked
People are always droppin Syd Barret's name whenever they can...He's a footnote in the history of the band. Without him they became the Floyd we know today. With him, these guys would have lingered in relativeobscurity for another few albums and then dissapeared into the vapor. No one misses Syd but his buddies.
And without Syd, Wish You Were Here doesn't exist, to name just one... why must you sell him short? Syd helped create the monster that Floyd became. A very talented, incredibly good-sounding monster.
What God (1) wants, God (1) gets, God (2) helps all.
(1) = Supra-national government that uses market forces, manipulated conflicts, ignorance, fear, television to control population. Everything this God does, it "makes perfect sense expressed in dollars and cents". This kind of "God wants his secret never to be told".
Don't forget Richard Wright, he is possibly the greatest of them all: 'Shine On Pts 1,9', 'Great Gig' and the list goes on... He is my hero as a pianist myself. And how's the laugh after "i'm only joking", I've never seen such a grin on the face of the prophet of concepts before.
You have to realise Reg would be an architect today if it wasn't for Barrett. Reg and Gil accomplished musical fame through music that audiences would crave because of it's technicalities (and of course not everybody likes this theoretical way of expression and recount)but it was indeed Barrett we should thank for works like 'Dogs' and 'Shine On' because the other two just wanted to be in a band and it wasn't their passion, without the determination of 'Astronomy Domine' etc.
Khemphis, you took the words right out of my mouth. Syd & Waters are both geniuses, Waters needs acknowledge Syd & being an artist, I understand Syd in ways that corrupt society & conservatives don't.
yeah because back in the 60s before the floyd became big, they were playing a gig and some chucked a penny and it hit him in the mouth thus chipping his tooth.
I can't say that the video is real coherent -- and the claymation stuff is a bit too reminiscent of Peter Gabriel's schlock -- but the song rocks hard, and so does everything Rog does. :-)
I disagree with that and it is doubtful that I will ever change my mind -- have had the argument many times. I respect your opinion but disagree with it.
It really is blasphemous; people who try to separate Barrett from Floyd are enjoying them for all the wrong reasons. Pink Floyd was two very different entities during and after his tenure with the band. Without appreciating what Barrett helped pave the way for artistically, how can one even appreciate what Floyd would eventually become?
You're both wrong. Syd may have started Pink Floyd, but if he had stayed with Pink Floyd, they never would have written the masterpieces they did. It would all be happy, childish sunshine stuff. Reality never would have hit them.
Yeah, sure. If he were Pink Floyd, I'd definetly like to see him write things that come close to comparing to things like "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", or "Echoes", or "The Dark Side of the Moon". You seriously don't know what you're talking about. I bet the only Pink Floyd you listen to is "The Wall", and "The Final Cut".
I was searching this video, since the day it was taken off MTV.Another powerful & anthemic song & lyrics that more true for this gen.Did U know-At one time when you entered "Semtex" in Google search,it showed pages with info on Semtex along with ads from Evengelists, church and Jesus and related orgs asking for donations.A classic case of co-incidence or did Roger really wrote that line after doing the same search?

Roger alternates 2 kinds of God:
What God (1) wants, God (1) gets, God (2) helps all.
(1) = Supra-national government that uses market forces, manipulated conflicts, ignorance, fear, television to control population. Everything this God does, it "makes perfect sense expressed in dollars and cents". This kind of "God wants his secret never to be told".
(2) = Conventional Supreme Being
