Is there any way to right a 16 with one person cause if not may buy a wave! And are they any cheaper in the winter!

@jsurfslammer Dont get a wave! they aren't even comparable to an H16!

It can be a pain to right on your own, but you can wedge/hook the righting line into the hook on your trapeze harness..

@jsurfslammer I have sailed solo in both the HC17 and 16 and the HC16 is more difficult right than the 17 but not impossible. What works for me is the combination of using my harness and then having a righting bucket over my shoulder to provide extra weight. The bucket is made of some sort of garment and is easy fastened to the trampoline or the dolphin striker.

check out the apparent wind at 1:00. Downwind with a spinnaker... but fully sheeting in main. gotta love hobies!

because the kite pulls the mast forward and the it snaps therefore on cats down wind you have main sheet on traveller off

the wind would have to be quite something to snap one of those masts! i agree you usually have the traveller off and the main on when going downwind, but once you get to the speeds they're going you have to fully sheet in with your sails set as though you were going upwind to get maximum power. this is because the apparent wind has moved so far forward. plus the mast will have some pre-bend which the kite will merely be canceling out.

don0karotti, they are like pretty hard to right dont you think man, among all the boats there are, the catamarans are the hardest one to right(the trimarans are even worse but never seen someone sailing a trimaran with 16 or 18 feet size) ,but hobie cat 16 is one of the bests sailing boats out there if you consider fun and good price.

We pitch poled a Hobie 16 in about 15 to 20 knts wind and found it very difficult to right it. It's nothing like a Laser or 420.

Very easy to right. As long as you use the wind to do it.

its the same boat, but the youth 16 scene they are using spinnakers. the traditional 16 without it.
