i have a question about missing contacts. so i had to get a new pre because the software for my last pre was corrupted so i had them transfer everything over to the new one but none of my contacts and none of my pictures came back on my new pre :(.... i ahve no clue how to get them back . all my apps loaded on fine and everything but no pics and contacts appear.... why is that? :/

Just because there are contact fields for other IM programs doesn't mean the Pre will ever have internal support for those. My Palm Treo has fields for AIM, MSN, Yahoo and ICQ. It's just another contact field.

Does the Pre do groups for text messaging or email out of the box? For example if I had a "Coworkers" group or category, can I send text messages or emails to the whole category automatically without having to add them one by one?

So what if a contact of yours has different names in facebook and google? (Example: Jon Smith vs. Jonathan Smith) Will the Pre be able to tell it's the same contact and merge them together?

Quick question, if I sync my contacts with my gmail (i have all my phone numbers on there) to the phone, and then sync with facebook, will the Pre combine my contacts with the facebook people auotomatically? and/or can they be easily merged manually?

It will combine them automatically. If numbers/e-mails/etc... differ on Facebook and Google it will show you which number came from where.

Fair enough. I assumed you were trying to operate under a degree of anonymity, since you're technically under a non-disclosure agreement and all. My concern has been addressed...

No problem thanks for the heads up though I would hope Palm would ask me to take the videos down first before suing the hell out of me. I would gladly take them down haha. I would think if they had a problem they would have addressed it already. I'm not hard to find :) I bet they love the free advertising they are getting.

I would hope so. Great way to get someone to show off WebOS without having to pay them, as well as generate buzz.

But I agree, they should be (and likely are) well aware of the videos, and I would think they would address it if they had a problem as well.

Exactly Palm is running on fumes cash wise. So they will take any free buzz they can get. I mean I know they read engadget and such as I talk to them on Twitter and know they read blogs. Also I believe I was 26th most viewed on youtube yesterday so this page is pretty big if you ask me.

It will not sync locally but I am told that there will be a program that comes with the Pre to sync everything from address book to the phone 1 time so you can back it up to Google. I know this is a huge bummer.

i love the fact that you can incorporate facebook with the contacts, however, (as you mentioned) i dont have use for many of the contacts i have on facebook and therefore i dont want them on my phone. is there a way to filter who gets added on to the phone or would i have to just go one-by-one deleting the contacts i would not like to use!? (or manually input the contacts i want and only update those?)

What options do we have for viewing the contact list? For example, I currently list by Company, and then by Last, First Name. I would be very interested in seeing what options there are.

And if you do a universal search and type a company name, I would be interested in seeing what it shows for information during that search.

sometimes i'll remember a random detail about a contact's profile (oh that person i talked to whose email contains the word "invisible" but i can't remember their name or where they work, etc). is universal search able to search from the other fields in a contact's profile as well?thx.

Universal search will not find e-mail, address, IM screen name or anything. But it will find company name, phone number, and name. I will make a video on this shortly.

No you cannot delete unwanted Facebook contacts that have been synced. If you deleted them they would just come back the next sync so there wouldn't be much of a point.

Well it would be nice if it made note that you wanted to exclude the contacts from future syncs. Having hundreds of people you'd never cluttering your contacts is kinda lame.

I get what you are saying now, yea it would be nice. I personally won't mind it much I won't be scrolling through contacts too much I will just be typing the name to find them. So I won't need to worry if it is cluttered or not.

No it gives you an error that says Facebook profiles cannot be deleted.
