  • How can you call it an American accent when that's how english is supposed to sound.

  • i bet americans are sitting their with OXFORD dictionaries when they hear huge talk

  • @mantor420 yes, because we can't understand the english language. If only he were speaking in Latin, then we'd comprehend.

  • i just loveeeeeeee dr house

  • I'm so used to him not having an accent

  • @Ambkn1

You mean him not having an English accent? It's not possible to NOT have an accent. Everyone's got one :)

  • @EnigmaDrath Well I hear myself not having an accent, so to me I'm not used to him not having an accent..

  • @EnigmaDrath lol yeah! american accent is not the default! lol!

  • @Ambkn1 I'm sure he says the same.

  • can you imagine what it would have been like if patrick dempsey was cast as house

  • I find it funny that he's playing a serious doctor, because all I can imagine him is as he was on Blackadder..

  • @BatmansFavoriteGirl Me too! I'm so used to him being silly in A Bit of Fry and Laurie and other things. I love him in Sense and Sensibility too. To me he suits his English accent much better than he does an American accent.

  • @crazypianolady Yeah.

  • @crazypianolady Yeah. :)

  • This man is a genius. That's why he can play a genius easily. That's it.

  • I'm glad no one else was picked for house, Hugh brings a rugged charming unlikeable sense that makes the character down right sexy haha. XP

  • I can't look at him without thinking of Bertie Wooster.

  • if you don't know hugh laurie, and if you only watched him at house md, you wouldn't know he's from england. thumbs up if you agree. great american accent! :)

  • @FiatLux001 i totally agree with you..if i had not watched the ellen degeneres show with hugh laurie as guest, i would not have any idea he's from england. i mean right now, he's accent is somehow different from british/english accent, i couldn't tell really from this interview.

  • He speaks in full paragraphs rather than short, incomplete phrases. I wish that many of the people who are so famous in our culture of celebrity were as worthy of their renown as he is. I worry sometimes that children now grow up without any distinction between achievement and empty fame. Real accomplishments, modesty and dignity have gone out of fashion. Yet Hugh Laurie is a reminder of how great they can be.

  • FUCK YOU YOU GOD DAMN COMMERCIALS

    FUCK YOU

  • I have always thought he was brilliant, specially as a comic actor, his comedy is very dry, sarcastic, clever, borderline aristocratic and ultimately british. I know a lot of americans think his british accent is very strong in this but i found it to be rather diluted, probably due to being across the pond working with yankees for such a long time. His american accent though, is flawless.

  • @cassiaedmonds I do not like the term 'yankees' to refer to us amercians because it was once used in history as a term to insult. :P haha.

  • my god his voice!!!! ahhhh so british!!!!

  • I LOVE YOU HUGH LAURIE I HAVE WATCHED EVERY SINGLE HOUSE EPISODE

  • i honestly looked for his cane when they panned out. xD

  • This accent is seriously wrong with him :D

  • I love Hugh Laurie, he's brilliant. I first saw him on programmes like Blackadder and Jeeves & Wooster, so it's a bit odd for me seeing him doing the American accent (even thought it's flawless). I don't think people who've only seen him on House realise what a brilliant comedic actor Hugh Laurie is. Search Blackadder or A Bit of Fry and Laurie and you'll see.

  • Doesn't anyone realize that Hugh Laurie is a great comic actor, too. He has been in several Brit Sitcoms over the years. Mostly playing a twit opposite Rowen Atkinson in the Blackadder series. Watch if you get a chance. Many PBS channels carry it from time to time.

    Search Blackadder for some clips

  • His accent blew my mind after the first time I heard it aswell.lol

  • OMG, his accent. Second I heard it I was like, o.m.g.

I guess it's true what House always says, everyone lies.

  • Hugh Laurie's the PERFECT man for the role. If it was anyone else it'd never be this good!

  • HUGH IS SEXY!!!!

  • i hate doctors but if i met a doctor like house i think i would love to visit him alot lol

  • Does anybody know how can the full version (=the show at the Paley Center) be watched of this interesting excerpt?

    (Hugh rocks!)

  • /watch?v=BiMLR_9C4f8

  • House MD is by far the best show I have ever saw. Hugh Laurie's is such a bright individual and does such a fabulous job of speaking the medical terminology throughout the show with an American accent. I doubt that too many people with a british accent would be able to keep up. He's also very ssseeeeexxxxxxyyyyyy!!!!!!!

  • @shredr18 you should hanged .

  • @shredr18 you should hanged .

  • cont'd It was almost as mind-blowing as seeing my first interview of Bob Hoskins after watching "Roger Rabbit" as a kid! (@O@)

  • You know, the first time I had the revalation that Laurie is an Englishman was after becoming addicted to House and after re-watching my old DVD of Stuart Little. In the blooper reel, Laurie says "Stop the camera, take the film out, and throw it away!" in very Oxfordian English! I had to hold my skull tightly to keep it from exploding!

  • LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOL

  • He is a brilliant actor.

  • It's so strange hearing him with his English accent!

  • that's what i love about House - he's not trying to be liked ^_^

  • Sexiest man alive.

  • Anybody who thought Hugh was americain should watch A Bit of Fry and Laurie or Blackadder :)

  • @Idole18 haha yeah both awesome. i dont know which comedian said it but someone said that the reason House limps is a follow on from how he got abused on Fry and Laurie!

  • I didn't even know hugh laurie was british!! everything i have ever seen him in he sounds very American!! its actually freaking me out!

  • It still amazes me that people are so surprised that Hugh Laurie is English. He's just very good at putting on an American accent, doesn't mean it's revolutionary. Ewan Mcgregor is very scottish, Colin Farrell is very Irish, but they both do very good american accents too.

  • @pyschotaz his name alone sounds english

  • @pyschotaz HUGH LAURIE'S ACCENT IS FLAWLESS NOT VERY GOOD. But you got a point, people think that maybe because of the character he portrays, y' know, House is very savvy with words. Also I think most people think Hugh Laurie is an outstanding actor while the other two you mentioned are considered just great/very good.

  • 0:23 Harry Potter for 30 years

  • @Mikaro280988 hahahahaha, that is great.

  • @AdudenamedKemp Fry is an amazing actor which I love, and I'm sure he would be great in it, but I still think what I said. ;)

  • yeah he's been around TV since the early 80's

  • 1:38 random tit rubbing bonus

  • Whats the difference of an English accent and an Australian one? Because Jesse and Hugh (Dr.Chase- Dr.House) have one of each and there is a bit of a difference as i feel Jesse pronounces each word weirdly (for me at least) and Hugh pronounces every 3 out of five words weirdly... I dont know is it just me?

  • @giselle21able Laurie's English is very formal and upper class, while Australian accents are more cockney and broken.

  • @giselle21able ...Australian isn't actually cockney.. but it is often less formal.

An Australian accent isn't simply a different version of an English accent... but it does have it's roots there... but then again...so does an American accent.

  • @giselle21able Brittish accents are a lot more formal than the Australian accent.....We Australians are pretty lazy when we speak so we shorten our words quite a bit.....we're not really Brittish, but most of our like...customs and roots etc. come from England, which probably makes us sound Brittish....but they're both unique....And if memory serves...Jesse Spencer spent some time in England...so he might have picked up a little of the accent while he was there :)

  • such a random shot of Jennifer Morrison touching her chest.

  • hugh is soo hot :P

  • Hugh was always talented and sexy.House is just a character, that's not interesting anymore!!The writers ruined him!!

  • SOUTH AFRICA? when were you in South Africa Hugh?Tell me!

  • @Nicallica11 you know....South Africa, the Southern part of Africa...not the actual counrty...

  • @domieszter ok but WHEN was he here is what i want to know. Even if its just the southern part of Africa

  • @Nicallica11 Hugh was in Namibia shooting The Flight of the Phoenix

  • It's an ENGLISH accent people.

  • Just LOVE him...

  • love laurie

  • My mom loves Laurie! My dad looked like him a bit.

  • Someone sounded like they were crying when they laughed. O_o

  • If they had chosen someone else to play House that show would never have succeeded...

  • @ablurida Stephen Fry.

  • @ablurida amen to that

  • @ablurida brad pitt? i think it wouldve done fine

  • @talsmall I really hope you're not serious xDDDD

  • @ablurida Hugh is awesome, though you would be saying the same thing about whoever they chose cuz u wouldnt kno any different ;)

  • @ablurida They couldn't have picked a better cast, they're all such brilliant actors and they fill the roles so well.

  • @ablurida agreed

  • @ablurida i can not picture house being acted by some1else then hugh laurie

  • DAMN he does a great american accent!!!

  • i didnt know he had a british accent in real life

  • "Houseian"... hahaha well played Hugh, well played.

  • that fricken pisbury commercial is incredibly annoying. Ive seen it 500000000 times on youtube, and its not funny, its not interesting, and they need a hotter girl eating their product, cause nobody wants to see some ugly mom gorging herself in chocolate.

  • @l0otkillall yo press f5 next time...

  • "The open faced boyish hero" Gotta love Hugh Laurie.

  • What no one in the U.S. seems to understand is that Hugh is HILARIOUS. He's an amazing comedic talent and that is what the majority of his career has revolved around. His next project is bound to be a comedy of some sort and then people will be equally shocked at that facet of him. He's simply the complete acting package.

  • @starstarstar42 lol what do u mean i live in the us and allll of my friends watch house and always talk about a freakin' funny he is! xP

  • @konekocouture12 He's talking about the tons of comedic things that he has done. Not House.

  • @starstarstar42 oh your an expert on the united states all of a sudden?

  • what is the girl doing at 1:35 putting her hand on her chest...?

  • @MsTheMilkMan I think her mic fell? o.o idk...

  • Seems like Omar Epps takes a little nap on the chair!!! *rofl*

  • Thumbs up if you think Hugh should have gotten the role as Robert Langdon!

  • @Aimtofflan o.o

  • I hate his American accent. It sounds weird and nasal to me. Maybe just too used to his own accent.

  • @Boubala25 his american accent isn't too fond of you either

  • @Prodemik

    At least it's mutual.

  • i want him to RAVISH ME

  • Comment removed

  • House. Roadhouse.

  • @TheSumisus that too

  • his voice is somehow a bit deeper in his native accent.

  • i love him so much, he's so funny :)

  • watch 'Stephen Fry, Hugh Laurie & John Cleese' - v.funny

  • Oh my he has an accent!

  • correct on that one we all love his arogant attitude, its attractive lol

  • Hugh Laurie yuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuummy

  • his humor is so dry. He won't even know he's being funny and he totally is lol. He is such a great actor all around! all is work has been excellent! Wish we could have seen him do more movies during his career!

  • I didn't know he was "lord monty" on university challenge on "the young ones" in the 80's. the "bambi" episode

  • australians are so much hotter

  • @friendsfanatic57 , sorry to bring your illusions hurtling to reality but, australians wish they were hotter, they all know they are not. hence the national insecurity which has lead to their national sports obsession, unhealthy image conscience and national obsession with winning at any sport they can try their hand at. Australians need to relax a bit, then we would all love them. until that day british people will remain cooler & sexier as a result. P.S. i love australians.

  • @Harryclownie Dude.

  • What a total different voice comparing to S3 o.O

  • Hugh's accent is blowing my mind cause he sounds like House talking with a British accent but I know in reality that House is Hugh talking with an American accenAAAAARGGGH! ... my head hurts now...

  • @HITMANSPIKE007

    My thought exactly haha!

  • @HITMANSPIKE007 i cannot believe his accent! after watching 7 seasons of this and never knowing that he doesnt sound like he does on teh show... crazy

  • @HITMANSPIKE007 U need House to cure you!

  • @HITMANSPIKE007 Hugh is born in england and he can talk whit an british and whit an american accent !

  • woah hugh with an accent :O

  • Where can i watch or download the whole thing?

  • @tim321456 i would like to know too.. Please someone? Any ideas where the whole talk is?

  • is that chris martin from coldplay ha looks just like them there twins

  • Oh my god! It is just so weird to hear him all British. And I'M British.

  • I keep forgetting Hugh is English when I watch House. Which I'm ashamed of since I am English and have seen him on TV for as long as I can remember...

  • DarkRw1995 wrote: "I keep forgetting Hugh is English when I watch House." That's exactly what is supposed to happen, and is the aim of any serious actor, to make the audience members forget that they're watching an actor, a particular performer, and make them believe instead that they're watching an actual character, a completely different person.

What separates the ordinary from the extraordinary among actors is that only the extraordinary can actually achieve this transformation.

  • love Hugh's voice... it sounds like he said Welson the first time

  • haha i forget what his English accent is like sometimes, even though i love blackadder, jeeves and wooster and everything he's been in before house.

  • In every interview he's so passionate about his characters. He's so in love with acting. Really admirable.

  • Hugh is a god!!

  • You know, its kind of hard to believe that he played on Stuart Little! But what a wonderful part he plays on house(:

  • He has a way with words.

  • i have lovd him from the very first, i would let him diagnose me

  • As an English artist it's a true pleasure to see Hugh talk about his work. He's inspiring. I love the soundtrack to House as well which I believe he has some input into. I'd love to get one of my musical pieces on the show.

  • I LOVE HIM!!!! his accent is AMAZING! it's really weird, though because I've mostly heard him with the English accent

  • i can think of an american comparison show to House, Becker!

Or am i the only one who knows that show? Lol.

  • Becker is terrible.

  • Oh god that is such an old show. lol I was little when it was on but I actually liked it and now it's funny that back then, there was Becker and now, there is House. :D

  • I really like him, I think h e is one of his best (if not, the best) role in his life.

  • he's been in a lot of films... the earliest one i can remember him in is Stuart Little... he was Mr.Little =)

  • The earliest I remember of Hugh Laurie is Blackadder and voicing for a cartoon about Treasure Island.

  • yeeeees! Blackadder days was still with Emma Thompson, no?...He is so brilliant

  • @soaresnezinha - He did a film back in 2000 called Maybe Baby that you might enjoy...

  • Oh my goodness, I love this brilliant form of a man. He's wonderful..and yes appealing and attractive..i'd say sexy in his own old-modern way. Love love love Hugh Grant.
