i havnt even considered doin heavy weight with this type of press. im all for bench and decline, ill have to give "heavy" reverse grip a shot. very impressive man.
Thanks man. At the time I took this video, I think I benched up to about 365 lbs. My bench really fluctuates depending on how much I weigh. As I type this, I'm no where close to doing this right now.
Today, I weighed in at 188 lbs when I woke up. Well, when I did my powerlifting meets, I always had to cut down to make the 198 lb weight class. I usually like to hover around 205 lbs. The most I've weighed was about 225 lbs, and I benched over 400 lbs raw then. I've sustained some injuries and training for the military now, so I'm not training too seriously right now. I'm definitely not a bodybuilder cuz I hate dieting, haha.
Iron619 I never even thought about doing reverse barbell presses. Never even heard of it being done till just this minute. I'm subscribing to you man. Sub to me as well. Hey what's the benefit of doing a reverse barbell press btw? Right off the top I'd think it'll be hell on the forearms.
I have been reverse benching for many years. I have a much wider grip than yours, but my elbows angle in towards my sides. Last week I press 410 for 2 reps. good lift.
thats awesome strength man, good for your wrists too and works the triceps well. Only thing is you gotta have a good lift off to do it properly. But good power overall man.
Thanks for commenting dude. Definitely need a trust-worthy spotter because if this barbell slips from my hands, I would be dead. I occasionally ask myself if this exercise too risky to do. I mean, the spotter needs to literally have his hands ready to catch some of the weight off the barbell, should it slip. I'm thinking of eliminating this movement, but I want to see what it does for me...
These work the triceps more. Yeah man, I would never attempt heavy weight on this exercise without a lift-off/spotter, for safety reasons. Give 'em a try and see how you like them. The key for me is to try to keep my elbows in (tucked) as much as possible. Also, when you lower the bar, you will find that you are lowering the bar around your upper ab region and not to your chest.
Hey dude, I didn't know Larry Scott used to do these as well, but these feel great! This particular movement has always felt natural for me. I never had to take time getting used to the movement or form. Do you do these as well? I definitely feel my triceps being worked from RGBP.
i read it in an article he wrote years ago, he wrote he always tried reverse grip movements. IIRC his fave was the reverse grip dip. he felt reverse grips built a good pec/bi versus pec/tri connection.
i have never tried them. i typically do close grip bench with elbows almost touching the torso to try and reduce the effect of the front delts. i will give these a try. no decent lifting partners here in tokyo though i'll have to wangle a way to lift off solo.

Cool dude, thanks for the info. This was only the second or third time doing RGBP, but I did feel my biceps working as well.
I like doing CGBP as well.
What are you doing in Tokyo? Man, it would be fun to visit there again! At least you have a gym to train at over there.
